1. PA has been taken out of this venue twice in two weeks.
2. 1st bass - Hohner Rockwood 1st guitar - Phantom Rhythm Master
3. You could could try the Schertler Stat-B Select. All the Schertler gear is excellent. http://www.schertler.com/prodotti_ing/pick...double_bass.htm
4. I can recommend the Alesis HD24. I would avoid the Mackie equivalent. If you've a larger budget you could try and get hold of a 2nd hand Tascam MX2424.
5. Have recently rediscovered Standing in the Shadows of Motown - the Life and Music of James Jamerson by Dr. Licks. If you're not familiar with it, the 1st part of the book looks at Jamerson's beginings and eventual place in music history. However, the other half of the book is the scores to many of Jamerson's best basslines with introductions from the likes of Macca, the Ox, Nathan Watts and many more of my bassist heroes. Two CDs come with it with the basslines panned left and the backing panned right so you can play along to the tracks. I can't recommend it enough if you're into Motown or interested in James Jamerson's story.
6. I'd go for James Jamerson for deceased and Macca for 'still with us'.
7. The bassist from a support band knocked over my 5-string at a gig about 10 years ago and broke a piece of the nut. I had to play his horrible precision chinese copy which was akward as I was relly used to the 5-string at the time. Since then, I've always brought a spare bass and put it behind the cab. Had an Epiphone EB-3 as backupon Saturday. Never taken spare amp though.
8. Played a wedding last night. We turned up with PA about a million times too big for the venue. Wedding organiser got feet and metres confused. Doh!
9. The question of Pods etc. has come up, but can't see me ever not using the Ampeg. Gives the boys something to lug around.
10. Yeah, should have explained some more of the story. Not sure if you're aware of Rushworths but leading up to their closure when they had about six guitars left in stock, I went in and was showing interest in a US P. When I passed it back the guy asked me what I was after. Long story short, came back the next day, they had this brand-new jazz and I gave them £400 in cash. Mmmm.
11. No - We were lucky enough to do several practices with an experienced monitor engineer and we had the mixes set in advance, just a few tweaks at the venue. I think I'm just used to my trouser legs flapping from the cab. Interestingly though, we also all used radio mics on vocals. It made the set up a lot quicker.
12. Ain't no Mountian High Enough - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
13. Used IEMs for 1st time at last night's gig. Rest of the band too except for drummer who required regular monitor. Did two practices with them but didn't haven't a good time. Ended up having to stand quite close to amp and just have IEM in one ear. Because of the nature of the gig (wedding do for 250) couldn't whack up the SVT so had to really concentrate. Anyone else using IEMs or are you favouring regular wedges?
14. Cheers. That puts my mind at ease. It's been worrying me the past dew days and the rest of the band have been messing round telling everyone I've been ripped off and am actually playing an Encore with a Fender sticker!
15. Yes - It is my bass. Thanks. Should it not have a serial nuber though?
16. Dudes. Apologies if you've already read this post in Introductions. My name's Drew. Using US Fender Jazz through Ampeg SVT VR & 810AV. I've been recommended this forum by another member to see if anyone can help me out with a question about my Jazz. I bought a US standard Jazz in '97 from Rushworths in Liverpool just as it was closing down. I've been gigging it for years and plays great and I have no problems with it. However it dawned on me the other day (11 years later) that I hadn't seen a serial number on it, neither on the backplate or headstock. Also, the colour doesn't appear on the Fender colour chart - it's a shade of pale yellow but more yellowish than Vintage White. On the back of the headstock is a small round sticker 'celebrating 50 years of Fender'. Came in a proper Fender case with all sealed accessories/manuals etc. Can anyone shed any light as to why it hasn't a visible serial number and if it's definitely a genuine Fender product. As I say, it plays fantastic and I would never have had any reason to doubt its authenticity until the serial number issue. It's packed away in the van but will take some pics and post in day or two. Drew
17. Thanks Ben. Bass still in wagon from gig last night but will definitely post pics in next day or two. Drew.
