  1. Old thread revival.
Is there any more mandolin love on here ? I've had my Stagg A type mandolin for god knows how long, but only started playing it about two years ago,IMO it's a really good instrument, especially for the price which i think was about £80.Now that im a bit more confident on it i plan to play it regularly with my new band.the only problem i have with it is,it is the fact that it's purely acoustic and i need an amplified one.
Do i 1,bite the bullet and buy an electric ?
    2,buy a bug type pickup ?
    3, fit half of a precision pickup,vol & tone ?

  2. I have had this exact same problem. For some reason when picked downwards, the sound was fine. When played finger style or picked upwards it was thin dull and lifeless (a bit like my first wife..lol)
One half of the P pickup had packed in,try swaping the positions of the two halves of the pickup to dee if it makes a difference. If the symptom moves to another string then one half of the pickup has gone down.
Alternatively you could have the pickup too high on the E string side.

  3. I've seen one of these with what looks like 2 Jazz bass pickups stuck together, rather than a Musicman type pickup, and that was wired up with one volume and a tone control for each of the stuck together jazz pickups,it seemed to work ok though.
    EST96.

  4. I left my previous band at christmas, who were very successful in our genre, and i felt a bit of a dick for doing it at the time, especially as it's how i make a living. What kept me going was learning stuff that id never considered before, which in turn has me gassing for a fretless, that i've never had the time to do anything with previously. Now i have a new band in the making, with a much better line-up than before, things are looking good (we have gigs and festivals lined up,even though we havent rehearsed yet,or even had a drummer up until about 30 mins ago).
