1. I think that Fender stick to tried and trusted shapes, namely Jazz and Precision because they are safe. The same reason for mixing and matching pickups between the two.
Fender have tried other designs in the past, which have proved largely unsuccessfull.A lot of people still aspire to a USA Fender of one type or another. If you think that Fender is uninspired, look at Harley Davidson, another world brand, the same old parts bin specials with upgrades for over 50 years

2. IIRC the salmon pink was incorrectly applied fiesta red applied to new Fenders during the early sixties by Selmer, who were Fenders importers at the time, because of the popularity of Hank Marvins Strat, and that salmon pink was never a genuine Fender colour,at least at that time. This was sprayed over the standard colour instruments, more often than not sunbursts.
This of course has nothing to do with your bass,on that one who knows ?

3. I have a cover that fits a high mass 4 string bridge that was fitted as standard, the standard Fender size one that i have does'nt fit this bass. The bass in question is an Italia, the bridge on it is a Wilkinson high mass type,so that might be a starting point for a search.Im sure i've seen 5 string fender type bridge covers somewhere.
Hope this helps.

4. I've had a few heavy basses, worst offenders being,Ibanez Musician fretless,72/3 ? Fender Telecaster bass, and my current 5 string jazz which weighs in at almost 12lb and has been my go-to bass for 10 years or so,i love it and the weight has never been a problem.
The Tele was uncomfortably heavy because of the lack of forearm contour,so had to go even though i loved it.
The Ibanez was probably the heaviest of all and the most unbalanced, numbest sounding over hyped pile of firewood of any price bracket bass i've ever owned.

5.
I'm all for a return to the great late 70s colours:
sh*t Brown
I Can't Be Bothered To Spray Any More Coats White

Classy...
Or combine the two in a sunburst,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ANTIGUA.Yuk.
More colours from Fender ? are you some kind of whacko hippy ? is'nt the abundance of parts bin specials...............er...i mean signature models enough for you ? :)

6. On the first pic the burst is on the out side edge of the body and is dark, the pic of the rear of the body does'nt show any of this, even around the edges. How ?
The rear of the body is usually the same colour as the dark edges of the burst,it makes it look like two different basses to me.

Just found this,it looks the same.

7. My first band basses were a '68 Precision and a 60's EB3,traded because i wanted a Fender with a Jazz bridge pickup.I didnt have a pickup put in the Precision because i was in vintage mode and that at the time seemed wrong to me.Now i wish i'd just done it.Funnily enough i got Howard to re-create my '68 but didnt have the Jazz pickup fitted, but wish that i had.
