1. Worked a Saturday job in the auto industry as a teen.
Brake cleaner is a lovely 'carcenogenic' liquid commonly known as......trychoethylene and is used in the metal finishing industry as an aggressive degreasant.
It's not corrosive but it is very nasty indeed.
If you must use it do it outside and wear a mask/gloves etc... but yes better still give ur strings a plain wipe down or fit a new set instead.

2. I would give my eye teeth and a few other bits to play Gospel. Trouble is I'm a total non believer which kinda puts me at a bit of a disadvantage....but to be on a stage grooving with all those fantastic voices, it really moves me, gives me the shivers in a very good way
Check this incredible stuff out and what an amazing bassist too.

Not really a groovy dancer but Oh! that production sound, strings and what not ...... 70's were the best days by far for studio tone.

It seems very fashionable to take the piss out of the Stones, but I hope I'm still gigging at their age

Its Ok. I grew up with them and I've got all their records. Have a nice day.

5. Funny thing is I reckon I've gone to seed a bit (at least Im honest! ha) but, have never felt the need to practise so much in my whole life..at least an hr everyday day and I love it even though I will probably never play live again...

No-one mentions KC and the Sunshine Band :)

That's The Way I Like It. Odd but infectious bass line

And a host of other biggies from the mid-late 70s.

Oh yes...75 I think. Spent the summer on the beach as a teen and this brilliant tune takes me there every time I hear it.

And yeah that bassline. That's the sound of a talented bassist who's thought about the best line for the job...don't hear much of that nowadays.

7. Boy you have to know ur chops to do what he did on that Night Rythms vid....sizzly and high in the mix.... fantastic player....I've practised pretty well every day for 30 yrs and I still cant play with that kind of authority. Amazing.

Great band too..love the drummer, very crisp.

8. And then there's Darling Dear...drop dead beauty in the busiest musical bass line ever written.

Genius.

Many mixes (and re-recordings) of this out there but this one really shows that killer bass line..

Flares are compulsory!

Is that played with a pick?...admire anyone who can play that fast with a pick..fingers no probs.

10. I must have been the only lad in our school that loved disco and Philly type soul music , and I still love it and in the circles I move in now as a fifty something I still have to keep it underwraps....weird I know.

I love it all, even those sickly little Tina Charles numbers etc...but shh dont tell anyone!

11. Great pictures.

As old as the hills and they look it but,...they've still got it albeit in a kinda dicrepit sort of way...and love the way Charlie watts always looks like he doesn't really wanna be there....ha

Love em.

12. Was always fascinated by that Ai No Corrida slap tone etc and u can hear it on the Mj tune above...brilliant player. who had a big influence on my slap playing. Used to play "The Dude" in a function band....amazing stuff too.

13. Ah basswood. My VM P is basswood and its great, light weight and sounds good too..BUT its soft as hell. When I changed the bridge I had to make sure to put slivers of wood taken from an old floorboard to give the screws some bite cause without it they just would not tighten up nicely...sfine now, and one of my fav basses of all time very resonant.

14. Good luck with the audition. Just had another listen to the intro...so clean and crisp and analogue sounding..loads of warmth.
I can play most styles but can I do that chukka thing, no way, its genius.
Love the second half of Dance Dance Dance where it all kinda goes quiet and he's still pumping away...like a metronome...beautiful bass work.

15. Dont sppose this'll ever get read its right at the end..anyhow,

My take on Bernard?...it really was all in his amazing fingers and nothing else.
I have yet to hear a bassist who can create that dry clicky thwack on Everybody Dance..listen carefully, the speed and timing are very natural and not forced at all, its just amazing what he does...and I bet nothing to do with strings or particular instrument.

Fabulous bassist.

16. My lightweight VM PJ is a pretty good guitar and I own a vintage P as well but its the PJ I take to gigs.
Recording is bridge PU only...not great on my PC but sounds crisper in reality.
