12.
Aloha from Hawaii (I wish - ok, London) Margus. Tell us more about yourself, music you like, bands you play with and so on.
Hey-hey, Sunny London! Well, I have been playing bass since I was 14, that makes 28 years. Hm, is it really sooo looong time? Yeah, ok, I had some 10-12 year break. I had too much work to do and couldn't find any groovy musicians in my country. Appr. 5-6 years ago I just couldn't resist anymore and started to play again. As I had sold everything I started to buy new gear and now I have more than 10 great basses. Actually I had more than 15 but I sold recently some basses I didn't use at all. I also bought some recording gear to work with bass parts at home. Today I have a small studio geared up by the most powerful gear, you know - Telefunken pre's, vintage Urei compressors, old AKG, Sennheiser etc. mics etc. Not much but a few quality units. My musical taste is quite broad - from my childhood favourites Weather Report, Jaco, James Brown, Larry Graham, Earth Wind & Fire to Jamiroquai, Incognito, Joss Stone etc. That includes also Bach, Telemann, Haydn (actually both of them) etc. My current band is called Funki Factori. We play mostly groove based music with some jazzy stuff as well as with some rock flavor. We have 3-4 gigs per month for the starting point and we hope to change it to 3-4 gigs per week. All the musicians are quite educated, it's just me as a hobby player trying to catch other guys. Luckily I have some memories from 80's when I worked with one of the most popular rock group in our country having 7-8 gigs per week. And here's the list of my gear: My Basses: Status S2 Headless 4-string (Blue Burst) Sadowsky Vintage 5 (Sonic Blue) Sadowsky UV5 (Sonic Blue) Fender Jazz/Precision '78 (Sonic Blue) W&T Custom Single Cut 5-string 34" (Mappa Burl) W&T Ergon Alvistar 5-string (my signature) 34" (Sonic Blue - on the way) MTD 535 (ash, maple/rosewood) MTD 535 (korina, wenge - Seafoam Green) MTD Heir (heavily modified - Daphne Blue, the best B-string BTW) OmCustom 4-string fretless (Figured Koa over Black Korina) Washburn AB20 Acoustic Bass Guitar Acoustic Fretless Bass Guitar w Flatwounds My Electrics/Acoustics: Ibanez Artcore with Seymour Duncans, Gotoh and Grover Golden Hardware Taylor Acoustic Guitar My amplification: Epifani U.L.502 Epifani T410UL cab Acoustic Image Focus 2 Series III Schroeder 1210 Cabinet Markbass Traveller 121H cab Phil Jones Briefcase combo Studio: Telefunken V676 (8 ch) Millenia TD-1 Preamp A-Designes Reddi Langevin Preamp (Manley) Urei LA3A pair Mindprint, tc-electronics, MOTU etc. outboard gear Vintage AKG, Sennheiser and Shure, Rode, GAP etc. mics Mac+Logic8+Apogee Rosetta 800 Bunch of plugins Dynaudio and Yamaha monitors Effects, stompboxes: Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synthesizer Electro Harmonix Bass Balls EBS Valve Drive preamp/driver EBS OctaBass Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter Q-Tron MuTron III Digitech Bass Synth Wah CryBaby Bass Wah Boss Bass Limiter Enhancer Aphex Bass Xciter Aphex Punch Factory Optical Compressor Ampeg Tube Di Peterson Strobo Tuner Well, feel free to ask more!
