They're a bit heavier duty and better quality than cheap ones - in terms of contact points, thread etc. For the extra quid or so I'd always use one.

didn't they have a band talent/judge show on the box a few years ago?? it had Alex James, Lauren lavern and the bassist from New order on the panel. think it was aired on Sunday afternoon's?
I thought it was ok, all kinds of genres..... obviously never took off!

Orange Unsigned Act on C4, and yes it was quite entertaining - a televised battle of the bands
edit: beaten to it, should have read the second page -

Has anyone had a bash at building a ZVEX Woolly Mammoth or Mastotron clone? I'm tempted to have a bash as they're very simple circuits, the WM especially. Anyone done it already?

I have vero layouts for the Mammoth and also my own take as a three knob version (minus the frankly useless EQ), if you want them give me a yell -

I wonder how many people would still use Barefaced if they were in a large, well paid touring band with roadies to do all the lifting...

I wonder how long a BF would last getting thrown in and out of a van twice a day. -

I didn't like the look of mine either so did this to it ....... and got some stick from Alex for doing so ..... as he wanted all the cabs out there in the marketplace to have an identity. It's my cab, I'll do what I want with it. Just an extra stenciled cloth over the top of the grill. Now removed.

Looks good, you paid your money - you can do what you like! -

I'm intrigued by these cabs.
I've always been interested in trying to make my own cabs, partly down to not being able to afford the kind of cabs I'd like, my only concern would be getting a professional enough finish to keep me happy.
Having said that, I might have a go at one of these next year...

Just slap some black paint on, that passes as acceptable on high end cabinets now. -

Yup; offboard wiring (pots and switches and sockets etc...) is a bit of an aquired skill. It can end up like knitting with spaghetti if you're not careful. That said it shouldn't put you off having a go. If something goes wrong then it's not dealung with dangeroys amounts of voltage and yoy'll learn a new skill that can be used to mend a bass or replace bits of it as and when the need arises - can save you a few quid by not having to pay a tech to do that sort of stuff for you.

My builds I generally use a specific colour wire depending on what it connects - green input, blue output, etc. Makes it easier to debug - not that I ever need to do that, perfect results every time me -

It's not, though - I often hear descriptions of amps by people who haven't played 'em, without them actually acknowledging the fact.
I'd love to try out a Hartke amp, but I've never found one that works... -
Can't recommend anything, every fuzz/distortion I've ever used in a band setting has instantly vapourised my bass sound into the mix of the guitars. In the end settled on cranking the amp and digging in.
I know it can be done effectively (mastodon immediately springs to mind), but the chances of your guitarists complying when you ask them to alter certain parts of "their sound" are slim at best. -

I'm not sure if your trade option helps your cause

Haha probably not, but I'm after one to modify -

I have contacted Orange's technical department.

Best of luck with that, given past experience. -
Blocking replies in the wanted section solves nothing. For example if I read an ad for someone who wants to buy an item I'm selling and I can't post a reply, I can just send a PM instead...

Turn it up as loud as it will go - when the neighbours knock and complain tell them "yeah this is what loud really sounds like"
