I wouldn't say the OC-2 is a clean octave, especially if you're trying to get away from the synthy sound.

Was it a glass fuse and tested OK? Next step is to check the power board (see above), but stay away from the big capacitors!

Where the power socket plugs into the amp, is there a holder below that? You might need a flat screwdriver to prise it out.

I know you've mentioned checking fuses, does this include the internal ones? Sometimes the time delay ones blow with normal use.

Combined the oceans are approx 1.3 billion cubic kilometres. Even assuming pure water (sea water is much heavier) that's 1.3 quintillion tons. That's a lot of ships

If you're worried, try the bass through the active input which may give you more control with the gain knob

Does it have 2 input sockets (high and low)? Try the other socket as your input signal might be too loud, I can never remember which one you use for a hot signal

If you're using a metal case, that provides all the ground connections. If you're using a non-conductor you'll need all the black wires.
I normally use the 7/0.2mm stranded wire from Bitsbox: http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/cable/cable.html

The rubber O-ring around the barrel jack had perished on my Rapture so I ordered a replacement. The jack needed tightening from the inside so I took the opportunity to get some pics

You're right, your one experience with Ashdown applies to their entire range and all of their users. Ashdown - JJ Burnell, Pino Palladino, Nate Mendel. Markbass - Jeff Berlin. Nuff said.
