4.
I started with two (index, middle) when I first started having lessons. Then moved to using three (index, middle, ring) when I found myself between bands with a lot of time to practice my technique. I don't think it necessarily meant that I could play faster, but matching the same speed felt like a lot less effort. Only pit-fall is that I find myself playing triplets if I'm noodling or composing my own stuff as it feels natural when using 3 fingers. I do alternate subconsciously between 2 and 3 fingers.
A-ha! Someone else who uses I,M,R! Thought I was the only one there for a minute. I know exactly what you mean about the triplets. :)

  5. Maybe a little early, but if you're coming from Bristol(ish) area and you want to get involved in a car conga to Wales, send me a PM. Please include details of whether or not you'll be driving (if so, how much space you will have for other BC'ers) or if you want to go, but have no way of getting there and need a lift.

  6.
Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synthesizer should be perfect. Search google and watch the Peter Stroud demo video, he shows how you can get a guitar tone using it.
AND there's one for sale: In the Effects Marketplace for £100

  7. Hello Effects Sages!

I'm pretty sure this is what I'm after, but just wanted to check with someone that owns one before buying.

I currently use a Korg MS2000 synth to create sub-bass synth sounds, but our live gear set-up is getting silly and sound men are running out of DIs; we really need to strip it down where possible. (We also take a Hammond Organ, Prophet Synth and Roland Keyboard, not to mention the laptop and various mics that are required for extra percussion/glockenspiel).

Basically my question is: If I were to get an MXR M288 and turn the Dry knob all the way to the left, will it cut the natural bass signal leaving me with just the octave below rather than a blend? The videos I've watched seem to suggest that it would.

It looks like an excellent pedal and has an analogue tone and true bypass!

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  8.
from your list i'd go for the carbon copy or the echo park, carbon copy is defo the warmest but i'm a sucker for tap tempo!!!! i had the ehx smm w/h but i found it to be a bit sterile, tho there are some interesting and tweakable settings to have fun with.

edit: aye, the echo park's just a tad noisy on a daisy chain. ^_^
Yeah, i've heard from quite a few sources that I should step away from the ehx smm w/h. Was worried about the noise on the chain, so also have decided to leave the echo park too.

I've ordered the Digitech Hardwire DL-8 that dannybuoy suggested; the true bypass and warm tone really sold it for me (i'm pretty sure it has tap tempo too!). I think the organ player in my band is going to get a carbon copy for his hammond, so hopefully I'll get to have a little blast on that too at some point! Thanks for your input!
