1.
My pedal board is much more modest than yours will be in terms of number of pedals. However, it was really helpful to plan out the detailed layout in advance. I had decided I was going to go for a Pedaltrain board and TRex power supply so I looked at the sizes available and laid out the pedals on the carpet including dummy wiring. That gave me a couple of different options on dimensions and layouts which I photographed on my iPad. It gave me the change to properly think through the ergonomics before I pulled the trigger on the board and ordered the patch cables.
Maybe I should have read this comment before posting! Haha
2. If you're trying to figure out what kind of sized board you need my best advice would be to layout all your pedals and wire them all up in the order you will run things and measure how much room they will take up. that should give you a rough guide.
3.
I bought a Caline CP18 off ebay just to try it and for £13 delivered its now got a permenent place on my pedalboard, not too much fizz and quite a bit crunch.
Yea I have seen them, I have a Caline 10 band Eq pedal and I am more than happy with it! deffo bang for buck, solid construction and I have not noticed any tone colouring or suckage. Gave my Danelectro transparent overdrive a go and was really happy with the tones. Love the different clipping settings it offers, although the first setting is the best and I have full control over the gain where as one of the Boss bass overdrives I tried had too much gain on tap.
4.
There's a reason P basses as so common. . . . it's because of their unique sound. Non P basses can get close but never close enough, IMO. That's why most companies make at least 1 P bass. As long as you have the split pickup in the correct position I guess you'll get the P bass sound from any bass. I'd strongly suggest that you try flatwound strings on whatever bass you get.
I currently have my Vintage musicman strung with flat wounds and love the sound it gives. Think I will be dropping my money on a 424 and some flat wounds rather soon. Then I can string my musicman up with some rotosound swing bass and have the best of both worlds, punchy MM and flat would P bass
5.
Howdy! Nice pic, that the BTB7 in Guitar Guitar, Glasgow by any chance? Welcome!
Ha, that is correct! Was down in Glasgow for a gig and stopped of at Guitar Guitar, I just had to try it out! Its an incredible instrument but seven strings is too much for me. Although I am gasing after a BTB 676 now
6.
Welcome to the forum Callum. You're in a very nice part of the country up in Moray. My wife and I honeymooned there this year. Plenty of good whiskey! What is the music scene like up there?
The whiskey is probably the best thing up here, so many different distillery to visit, and more importantly so many different whiskeys to try! The music scene is rather weird up here, there is a lot of folk making original music but not a lot of events for it. Although function/covers bands seem to be very popular up here and a lot of pubs in the smaller towns through out the area seem to be putting more and more cover bands on.
7. Hi folks, My names Callum and I am from the North of Scotland and have recently join this forum after many years of surfing the Sevenstring Forum. I have been playing bass since I was 13, so a good 10 years now, after being convinced by my dad (a fellow bass player) to take it up as oppose to guitar. Needless to say I haven't looked back! Started off playing on a Stagg Jazz bass copy, then got my first series instrument, a Yamaha RBX775 when I was 16, I have recently acquired a Vintage Musicman copy and looking to expand my bass collection (particularly a P style bass and an Ibanez BTB676) Love playing all types of music, was into my metal when I was younger my bass heroes are: Arif Mirabdolbaghi from protest the hero, Dan Briggs from Between The Buried and Me and Alex Webster. recently I have been getting into a lot of funk, blues and motown. I have played bass in numerous bands in the local area, however I took a 4 year status during my time at University and started playing guitar, now I am back up in moray and looking into playing with as many musicians within the area and generally improving on my bass skills.
8. Every review I have read has raved about it, however I have seen a lot of guys on the FB Helix group moan about the bugs, crashes and firmware updates. For that amount of money I would want expect for there to be no problems with it. The options to use external pedals and load in IR's is probably the best features. Haven't really seen any reviews on the bass amps yet. Think I will wait a couple of years for the price to drop and the bugs to be sorted before I consider getting one. My Pod HD will keep me happy till then, especially with the recent bass amp expansion.
9. I have recently seen this website being posted around and it has me intrigued, just wondering if anyone has signed up for this and if its worth the monthly subscription? After a couple of years of stale bass playing I'm wanting to use this winter to really start expanding and improving on my bass playing. https://www.lowenduniversity.com/
10.
Hi, I picked up a reasonably priced second hand BB1025 based only on the on-line reviews and WOW!!! I love the sound. Roll-off the tone a bit and you get a great P-Bass sound. Combine with the bridge pick-up and you get instant focus without loosing the warmth. I guess a BB1024(X) should be similar. It seems not many come up second hand, however for some reason Yammies are frowned upon, so if one does it will probably be a lot cheaper than new and not that much more expensive than a new BB424. good luck with the search.
Yea I have seen the bb1024, a little bit more than the 424's. It looks like a lot of the Bb range has been discontinued. Seen a lot of 626's (I think that's right) on eBay. Yea I don't understand why Yamaha gets a bit of a bad rep, I have a Yamaha rbx775 and it slays, perfect for playing heavier stuff and sits just right in the mix
11.
G&L L2000 does a reasonable P bass sound and lots more besides. The Tribute version is a bargain from Thomann at the moment. Frank.
Never looked into g&l, must have to have a look
12. Hi guys, I am looking into getting a p style bass to use for soul and Motown covers I do with my band. Wondering if you guys have any suggestions? In before "get a p bass", I ant to get something that's different and unique but still offer the same sound, generally I find p basses to be very common. I have been looking into the Yamaha bb424, I assume that someone on here has one? How do they compare to a fender standard p bass? Apart from being nearly half the price? I have a couple of gigs over the Christmas period coming up and I think I will use the money from them to invest into one, after I have paid the practise space off. Cheers in advanced
13.
Would second the EHX Glove, 18V mode is great for a big valvey tone. The Hardwire CM-2 is a good shout too.
I just found a Danelectro transparent overdrive that I bought a year ago, never really used it for guitar. might give it a spin with the rig and see how that goes
14. I hadn't thought about the Danelectro, Thinking about holding off a little later till I get the Sansamp then buying the Mooer, rattack and the danelectro then just see which ones work best with the rig.
I would steer clear of the Mooer personally.
Have you had bad experience with the mooers? I have heard nothing but great things about them, their demo on youtube sounded pretty good for the price.
15. I've looked at the Boss OBD-3, good price and size but seems to have almost too much gain/drive on it. Will be giving it a check out though
16. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look into the ehx nano big muff. The dark glass would be an investment I would make later on once I get my full pedalboard sorted for my covers band (we do a range of covers from 60's through to modern songs) The fuzz pedal is mainly going to be running into a tech 21 vt deluxe. Looking for something like this: http://youtu.be/ZBKxMaWSKuU
17. I am currently in the process of building an effective/cheap Bass pedal board and I am in need of a fuzz pedal to add some grit to my tone. I am wondering if anyone could recommend a reasonably priced fuzz pedal? I am currently looking at these two http://www.ebay.co.u...-cAAOSwHnFVu0Kx http://www.gak.co.uk...nt_MaAiPG8P8HAQ Does anybody have any experience with any of these pedals? I like the options available on the Rat Tack, however I really like the size of the Mooer Cheers
18. I've only ever owned 3 basses in my whole 10 years of playing bass, a Stagg warlock (BC Rich Copy), Yamaha rbx775 and a Vintage Musicman copy. I would say that all of these are "Cheap" guitars, the RBX cost me £350 second hand. Anyway, what I am trying to say is that my two main basses probably play and sound better imo than other guitars 3x the price. Although this doesnt stop me saving up for a Warwick Thumb.
19. Found it what the problem was, poor power supply to my pedals. Just upgraded my power supply to an epiphone power station and all the unwated sounds I have had have gone, even at high volume. An easy fix
20. Well the volume is normally around 6-7 about 2.30 on the dial, its a bit noticeable when playing. it can be quite distracting at practise. I could always DI out for a bit more push and lower my bass amp volume
21. Hi guys, First time posting here. I have had my line 6 lowdown 150 for a couple of years now and it has served my greatly as a bedroom amp and for very small rehearsals, However, I am now playing in a covers band and have noticed that the amp produces a bit of a loud high pitch hiss when its turned up around 7-8 (I normally notice it half way through practise) I am yet to still find out what the problem is, I have reduced the amount of bass on my settings and this hasn't had much of an effect. I am playing a 5 string musicman into a compressor and a noise gate, however, this seem to not be really affecting the sound. Could it be down to it being a 1x12 combo and there is no tweeter? Any help would be great and thanks in advance
