  1. Bought this last week off Paul Shepster8316

    Absolute killers these USA SUBS.

I had one for about 5 years and sold It In 2016 and regretted selling it almost immediately. (Why do we do that?)

So put a shout out In the wanted section and Paul offered me his one.

Mint condition too. Plays great and  has that killer two band stingray grunt and clack, So It should as It really is a USA RAY!

Shoved a Tort guard on It but may go with a cream pearloid later.

Anyway I'm over the moon with it and gonna do my best to keep hold of this one.

  2. So had it a month or so now, I'm astounded how good this bass plays and feels! The electrics are stinky poo, I tried a cheap artec preamp but it sounded shite so I've got a John East 2 band eq on it's way.

It has an ash body and a maple neck with superb resonance when unplugged. I'm astounded that SX can make a bass like this that sold for $149 back In 2005.  I have a superb fender jazz and a great P bass 51 copy (Both great basses) that I have not touched since i got this bass.

Great weight too, around 8 and half pounds. From what I've read they were only made for a month before being issued a law suit and most sold were 5 strings so apparently this is very rare.

Gonna slam In the east pre and see what the original pick up sounds like, If stinky poo I'll go the Nord route.

Makes me think as musicians we're getting the derrière ripped out of us all the time,  If a bass can be made for peanuts that plays this good, why do we pay 1000.s for basses that probably could be made for a lot less.

Yes, I've owned Stingrays. (In case you were going to ask)

A bass that plays well In your hands no matter the cost Is a gem.

    Having fun

  3. Does anyone know whether it's possible to use this preamp without the balance/blend pickup control?

I'm sticking it in a Stingray copy next week and only need Volume, tone, middle and bass.

Could I just solder the pickup to where the balance control conects?

    Cheers

  4. So I got this cheap SX stingray copy and I think the pre amp Is knackered as the bass and mid sweeps dont work.

Rather than spending silly money on a new pre amp can I make it passive and if so what controls will still work?

How hard Is it to do? (I'm crap at soldering)

Bass, middle and treble or just volume?

    Cheers for any help.

  5. I bought It!

Cracking Stingray copy for the money.

Ash body and fantastic neck. Quick setup and it's really great to play.

Only problem is the bass and mid sweep don't work. Cheap preamp and pots I expect.

    Pick up sounds great too.

I'd like to stick another 3 band pre amp In it but can't justify an east pre amp money on It.

If I could get a pre amp for around £40 I'd do It.

    Well pleased with it though.

  6. Hey all

I just picked up a really cheap SX stingray copy, The bass and mid pots are not working, The volume and treble work fine, I fitted a new battery but still nothing.

Does It mean the pre amp Is dead?

I have absolutely no Idea when It comes to wiring, I took the control panel off to see If there were any disconnected wires but couldn't see any.

    Any help would be great

    Cheers.

  7. I've found out that the model number is SX SBG2 made around 2006 - 2010

Over at the other place they were highly rated, don't think there are many available as Ernie Ball threatened SX with a lawsuit.

Who knows. I'm going to have a look at it later.

I'll post if I buy It.

  8. I have a really nice neck from a Harley Benton PB50 that I want to fit on a PJ body, I can't find a body that will fit the measurements of the neck

At the heel it's 65mm wide by 25mm deep. (need a body pocket of 65mm wide by 20mm deep)

Anyone know where I could get a body to fit it?

I don't have any tools to rout out a pocket to size either.

    Cheers.
