Fernandes MIJ P/J Bass Vs Ibanez SR800 MIJ

A nice old passive Fernandes P bass just came onto the radar. Would you swap a 1993 Sr800 for a Fernandes P, and why?

    Thanks in advance.

Ahh, I had my eye on that one for a long time, happy to see it's not on Adverts anymore 😂

The SR800 is a classic design, to me. They're superbly comfortable, sonically versatile and, usually, very light. Give it time and get to know it.

Every one of your basses has a price, much as I love my kit, they're all expendable.  I said I'd never get rid of my white Thunderbird but as soon as I got GAS elsewhere, boom, up for sale.

Very true. When I split with the missus a few years ago and needed to raise cash for the legal bill, I worked out the order in which I'd sell them via a complex mental formula of emotional vs actual worth vs playability vs versatility. The ESP would have been last to go but, yes, everything would have gone if required. Thankfully, it didn't come to that.

Starting from scratch would have been very interesting 😁

  3. Nice bass. They intrigue me. I'd love to spend some time with one but there's something about paying a grand blind for a Cort which doesn't compute in my head. Silly, I know, but opportunities to try them first are practically non-existant.

However, we are encouraged to Buy More almost everywhere in the player communities online.

Even I am guilty of buying due to influence from the internet, but when it's the other way around NO one will take heed of the ONE guy who is commenting NOT to buy it just because it's there!

We are encouraged to Buy More once we escape the womb and are bombarded with the message until we expire, not just in online communities. This is how the wheels of our societies keep turning.

I can recall, more than once, suggesting someone should have a think about what it is they really want when someone posts one of those baffling "Tell me what I should buy" threads. If you don't know what it is you want, keep the cash in your pocket.
