  1. I tried to migrate from iTunes to Apple Music last week and will never make that mistake again. A horrible experience, trying to weed out what I don't want from it to get to what I do. A few years ago, I decided on a policy where I bought a phone with a very large storage capacity and keep all the music I've bought over the years on that. Sod streaming (not one of them pays a decent rate, it's not just Spotify), sod radio, sod algorithms, I'll choose the music I want to listen to as and when I want to listen to it. Use Picky on the phone, iTunes at home (or the original CD or record) and buy from Bandcamp when I want something new. No fuss, no muss.

  2. Can you upload a picture of the head and strings by the tunings pegs? I've never heard of two strings go like that before. Did you manually wrap the slack around the tuning peg by hand or did you turn the tuning key fully from slack? 5 winds is a lot. If you loop them around the tuner by hand, you introduce twists to the core.

Generally I would cut maybe 2" past the post, insert the end into the hole in the middle of the tuner and turn the key with one hand, while keeping tension by hand so the string wraps tight around the post with little or no slack, always feed the wrap under the previous wrap, max 3 wraps in total. I've never had a breakage.

I suspect that, within 10 years, much of the 'content' on Spotify will be AI created, probably by Spotify itself, and the average listener will love it. Which means Daniel Ek won't have to pay any more royalties to those pesky record companies or songwriters.

Sorry to break it to you, but that is already happening today.

  4. I wonder, given his company's increasing penchant for injecting AI generated "content" into playlists, if that is what he is referring to, rather than five lads in a recording studio laying it down on tape, maaaan, or the youtuber types with their army of editors and the like, and this is just hysterical offence being taken by those who despise how his company has contributed to making music almost worthless (myself included)? I read his original comment as making much more sense when applied to the likes of Tiktok or AI stuff than a Tool album.

  5. Are the screw lug positions in the same place on both too? On a regular J the screws are further apart on the bridge pickup too, it's not just the overall size of the pickup, the carve-outs for those lugs are in different positions too. You're going to have an ugly and misshapen hole no matter how you go about it.

Were I in your position, I'd just buy two humbucking neck pickups, or a second CS60 neck pickup like the one you already have and, as you won't get RWRP noise-cancelling with both pickups on, spends some quality time shielding. Unsheathing the chisel is not something I'd be considering, to be honest.

  6. Too many breakups to recall, over the years, but the best one went like this:

Guitarist came up to me on stage just as we were about to start our set, eyes wide like dustbin lids.

"I can't feel my hands" he mumbled.

He couldn't feel his feet either, as it turned out, and stumbled around looking to get a stool to sit on.

We started the set with the guitarist slouched limply on his stool but still making an admirable effort to play. While our completely improvised jazz-metal explorations sometimes worked, were engaging and listenable, this was not one of those nights. It was not a great night to be going through a bout of intense paranoia in a semi-sedated state, I discovered.

As we lumbered on, banter between our singer and lads in the crowd was turning serious... and aggressive. Beer was spilled, insults were issued.  The rest of us were unaware of this, however, struggling to move fingers and limbs while floundering in our own mental treacle.

Singer walked off-stage, out the door of the venue and out of the band, halfway through a song, followed by a couple of lads looking for a confrontation. We didn't really notice, straight away and, after we did, finished the set, regardless.

Afterwards, as we struggled manfully to pack up, I truly understood the sorrow of St. Hubbins when he said "Well, I'm sure I'd feel much worse if I weren't under such heavy sedation."

Better than a whatsapp whinefest, any day.

Jagger, who dont forget was one of the greatest proponents of the Blues, but who has become a puppet of the establishment

I once tried to park outside Tesco on the high street but Mick Jagger pointed out it was a clearway between 8:00am and 4:30pm, Monday through Saturday and, as it was 2:45pm on a Thursday, I was not allowed to park there.

  8. I was in Germany last week and saw Masters of Reality in Rüsselsheim, supported by Alain Johannes, who is also playing guitar for MOR. Wonderful stuff. A few days before we saw Rum Jungle in Hamburg, who were ok, supported by Absolutely Anytime, who I quite enjoyed.

  9. His natural but odd looking 5 string JJ was trans blue but faded over the years.

I think the Wimbish tag is just a means for them to charge a grand extra for the slimmer nut, to be honest. The Wimbish LX models are massively overpriced compared to a regular LX for what is basically the same bass aside from nut width.

The usual tired and predictable default denigration of Britain as a nation and it's stature in the world. It's not a controversial statement to say that Britain is a great country with an extraordinarily rich history and culture. Or at least, it shouldn't be.

"There is no resentment felt for Britain across Europe..."  None at all? How would you know?  You have your own agenda, regardless of what is actually true, and you have created a false narrative around it, namely that Britain is in a state of crisis whereas the rest of Europe, by comparison, is  both more rational and thriving in every respect. A complete fiction based on feelings not on facts.

"This lie you have been sold by multiple governments and media sources..." ect. You sound like a spotty student handing out leaflets outside McDonald's about the evils of corporate capitalism. Do actually believe this half-baked twaddle? Like all conspiracy theorists, the fundamental mistake you make is overestimating the competence and ability of the supposed conspirators. Multiple governments and media sources can't even sell the truth, let alone a lie.

And how you can possibly conflate Brexit with anything in my post is symptomatic of your one-dimensional viewpoint. "He's critical of other European countries so he must believe in that." Brexit or no Brexit, every single country in Eurovision is a non-entity when it comes to making popular music compared to Britain. That is not really up for debate.  We all know it and so do they. What Brexit has to do with that only you can tell us, but I would point out just how bad European pop music has always been.  Brexit is only a recent phenomenon.

We should show some respect by coming up with a better entry?  Why do we owe respect to anyone? I think we show ample respect by participating. Oh,hang on a minute, I see what you mean. Maybe we should get the Beatles or Led Zeppelin to reform in time for next year's competition in Switzerland. This is Eurovision after all. Only the best is good enough.

Just for your information, I don't mind at all that the rest of Europe is rubbish at pop music compared to Britain and the USA. I enjoy their inadequacy.

All countries and all cultures are not equal in terms of achievements. I'm sorry if you find that idea upsetting but that's just the way the world is.

And by the  way, Ibiza relies on tourism. Without tourism it would be still be an island of poor peasants and fishermen. They should be grateful.

Thank you for validating my post 🙂

Never underestimate the bitterness and resentment felt towards Britain by so many people across the world.

To us Eurovision is a joke. To a lot of the other nations it's a serious matter of national pride, such is their cultural poverty compared to our own. Those  hapless Eurovision entries that we tune in to laugh at really are the best they can do when it comes to pop music. They can't forgive us for that.

That said, the UK entry was indeed crap. He got what he deserved. Thank goodness. Do we really want to have to stage Eurovision ever again now that it has become this ridiculous political football?  Switzerland was the default voting choice because of it's  famous history of political neutrality. I'm sure Eurovision will now find a way to try and drag them into World War 3.

    Send me your narcotics, please!

    Where to start?

There is no resentment felt across Europe for Britain, particularly when it comes to the likes of music, comedy and other artistic pursuits, which are massively respected. Your view is a lie sold to you by multiple governments and media sources to make you think Europe was to blame so so many of Britain's recent and not so recent failings. Brexit's not like the brochure, eh? Ever wonder why?

Your second paragraph perfectly illustrates why there should be resentment, however. The Ibiza tourist of posts. Take your head out of your arse, lad.

As you say, the UK entry was rubbish. Grindr visuals with music not fit for a Wetherspoons advert. Yet you somehow think there's a larger movement at play which was behind other countries not voting for such a terrible song? Was 2022 that long ago? Show some respect, send something entertaining and you get votes. It's oh so simple.

  12. I started using a D'Addario .149 a few years ago on a 4 string ESP Jazz which I usually tune BEAD but sometimes go down to low G#. To me, it feels about the same tension as the .105 I usually use in E. I like a bit of pushback from the string, not into the limp spaghetti feel at all. It's got authoritaaaah and meat. I love it.
