1. Hey, www.bluearan.co.uk are supposed to be good. I got a couple of eminence betas for my peavey 210 recently form jpgelectronics. they were good, only had 1 speaker in stock although the website said 4 in stock. sent the first one through quickly and the 2nd one came in sooner than they said it would. they kept me up to date with the situation and were polite and apologetic throughout.

  2. Well I've got the longest strapp. I've got it at it's shortest at the front, and pretty much longest at the back. But I find if I pull the neck up towards 45 degree, maybe a little more, I get the plastic bit digging in to the front of my shoulder. I'm 6'6" tall though, and play it with the bottom of the bass around hip height, maybe a little lower...

  3. They're good, I've got one too, but depending on the angle you have your bass at you can end up with the plastic bit right on your shoulder, which makes the nice big comfy neoprene bit kind of redundant... ah well, they're fine apart from that.

  4. No need luckily, got one of the speakers through (the other one is on its way as i type), took the old one out, realised it's just little pushfit connectors. so no chance of me bodging it beyond repair/dropping solder on the cone etc. Sounds fine as far as i can tell, guess it will take a couple of gigs to get it bedded in, will give you a progress report once that's happened.

Cheers again for all the help guys, and here's hoping I never have to solder, ever. :)

  5. I seem to remember Anderton's in Guildford stocking them... Not 100% but remember seeing something that looked very similar (big massive bridge etc) in the window a year or two ago. Pretty ugly in my opinion but each to their own :)

  6. Hey Tom,

Looks like a sterling bit of work dude!

Have you got a double bass now? Is that a lefty or is the pic reversed? Gigged it yet? I'm still working up the nerve to gig my stagg electric upright thing. Fun messing about on it though...

When you gigging in the ldn next?

    Have a good one mate,

    Tom

  7. Hello Bill, cheers for the advice, I've gone for the Beta 10. I can get 2 of them for only about £30 more than one of the peavey ones... I checked the cab with a battery by the way, the working speaker moves, the other one just sits there.

So yeah, thanks for the advice everybody, much appreciated!

  8. I've mentioned it somewhere on here before but...

Won my TE AH600SMX and TE 4x12 on ebay. The guy selling it was John Giblin from Simple Minds/Kate Bush etc. He was a really nice guy, had a nice long chat and he gave me a free bass too!

Then, bought my Iceni fretless bitsa off here (or was it bassworld?) from Geoff, the old bass merchant shop manager. Took it to Mike Walsh to get it repaired and soon as I took it out the gig bag he recognised the body as the third prototype of John Giblin's signature bass which unfortunately never got put into production.

So yeah, I'm slowly building up my John Giblin collection by accident.

  9. Ah, I see...

I'll be honest, tone and sound-wise, I've had no problems with the cab so far, I've been using it alone for about a year for most gigs. (vertically aligned of course :)).

The speaker itself is 8 ohm, but the cab is 4 ohm, to get the best from my trace elliots. Both of which are two separate 4 ohm min. power amps within one box, the AH600 is 2x300W and the PPA300 is 2x150W.

I understand that there are better drivers out there, but I really am working to a budget here...

How do I go about testing the bad driver? All I can tell you is what it sounds like now. If it would help I could get an audio file of what it sounds like uploaded. Think they must be wired in parallel then, because the 2nd driver in the chain, wiring wise, works fine. Would this be right? The wires run from the crossover to the knackered speaker, then on to the one that's still working fine.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  10. Cheers for that Bill, I really don't know what I'm talking about regarding this stuff, I read a lot of the threads with yours and Alex's input and I'm learning slowly...

Here's the T/S parameters for the Peavey from the thread over on TB, it's a 4 ohm speaker but would that make any difference to the specs compared to the 8 ohm?

What's the best way to find a similar speaker? Just trawl through specs for loads or is there an easier/quicker way to do it?

Any ideas off the top of your head?

  11. Hello there,

I called peavey about a replacement speaker, it's gonna be £58.50. Sooo... Would this do the trick?

    http://www.loudspeaker.co.uk/bl10-200.htm

It's about half the price at £35 and I'm on a tight budget.

Any other/better suggestions? Oh, and yes Mike, it would have to be 8 ohm cos my cab is 4 ohm. :)
