1.
Nice one Dave - you know it makes sense!
Well financially it doesn't but its only money.
The Laklands (which i do like by the way) normally cost me £24 for two sets. and these have a tappered B string as well. I cant remember what the Dr's cost but i know its a lot more.
Got them from the states so also takes a while to arrive. Better order some more now i guess.

2. Just put my first set or Dr Sunbeams on my 55-01 and they feel great. Only played them through my PC to do some recording but very happy with them.
The first ting i thought was how quiet the B was. Until i realised its not that its quiet but very well balanced with the other strings. My usual low B tends to sound a bit thicker than the E but the Dr,s are very well balanced IMO
Ive been using Laklands for the past year but i think ill stick to the Dr's for a while.

3. so where do the cabs like the UL212 etc come in?
They have the drivers stacked but also offset. Are they designed like this for a reason other than making the cab a bit smaller?

4. Bill
Well your right about Epifani as my UL212 is the same size as the UL410.

Nik
I have three gigs in Cornwall this weekend playing Haven holiday camps. your welcome to come along if its close to you. Ill be using my Sa450 and UL212.

5.
On the tube? Ah I see ...
Yeah, although i get a lift to and from gigs it always involves me getting to my pick up and sometimes a night bus home.
Bloody lazy drummers.

6.
a tad inept on this forum, but thought I might be able to help. Ive always found that 15's and 10's were the best mix. nothin roars like a 15, but the mids and highs are most responsive with 10's or 12's. just my opinion.
Yeah i agree.
I wanted to get a 210 to go with my UL115 for more volume and punch but foudn i didnt have room for two cabs in the car.
As it is the UL212 is 4ohms so im getting the full output, much to the anoyance fo my guitarist.

7.
Doesn't your drummer roadie for you ?
I just worry about the mashing an amp would get in a soft bag if a drunk falls over your gear as you are packing up or if someone runs over it ..
I'd also be scared a knob or two would get broken off..

The maplins ones have carry straps...
He only transports the gear, he wont carry it for me at gigs :)
At the moment im using my MB bag for the SA450 as its got the velcro on the flap to stop the head moving around on the cab.
With my LMII i have started to take it home with me rather than leave it with my other drummer so having something that hangs down, close to my body still leaving my hands free works for me.
I under stand your concerns about the drunks but my priority is transporting it with my suit bag, bass and sometimes camera bag. All on the tube.

8. Nik
As i said my UL115 is a very full sounding 1x15 but with lots of high end f needed. It has a levle control for the tweeter on the back and i generally keep it in the centre. The cab is relativly small and i think for a 1x15 you do need a bit of size to reproduce the lows without them sounding compreseed.
I think new they sell for around £750 over here. I was actually selling mine but after the disaster i had with the UL212 and being forced to use the UL115 again im hanging on to it.

You can get more info here

9. Ok, ill vote for the 2x12 cab.
Just gigged last night for the first time with my newly fixed UL212 and Christ was it loud.
I was on just 2 on my MB SA450 and i was louder than our loud drummer. tone wise it sounded great out front but it has a bit more (lot more) mid punch than im used to, even with my 1210 so ill take a few gigs to get used to it.
I will say though that the best all round, stand alone, small cab i have ever used is my UL115. Its a 1x15 with tweeter and i feel its more full range than my UL212. It goes very low but its clear and sparkles if i need to for a bit of slap.
Certainly not what you would think a 1x15 would sound like.

All IMHO of course.

10.
Glad to hear it's all ended well Dave.

BTW, if it's metle you're joining then araldite is an excellent adhesive. Superglue is best for a porous surface or semi-porous. If I've misunderstood what you're glueing, just ignore this.

Frank
Thansk guys
Franks, its a mettle ring that i guess has to be clipped in to the jack socket. I have a feeling i pulled it because of the lead i was using but if i stick it in it will be to plastic.

11. I really dont like the camera/tool case type boxes.
I find the soft ones like rucksacks or laptop bags are easier to carry as you dont need a hand to do it.
Just my thoughts on it.

12. Guys
Just what i hope is a final update.
Just got back from the gig. I cant believe how loud my rig was. I have played this a few times with the SA450, last time was with my 1210 and thats a loud cab but this seemed to be even louder. Im not 100% on the tone but compared to the last time i used this cab with the other drivers tonight it felt faster if that makes sense. We were playing on a wooden stage but my tone was good out front and again, like my 1210 seemed to be very middy on stage but nice and full 20ft away. I had the master on 2 and even then it was a bit too loud. I think im going to have to play with the EQ more before in tottly happy but i think the cab is now working ok. We have our Holiday camp gigs next weekend and i have a feeling these will be the biggest gigs this band does this year so that will be a good test. Still very paranoid though. Every little crackle or pop (no snap) or rattle on stage and im fretting.
I have a feeling i wont be lacking volume any more. I would also say the SA450 sounds nicer and louder with this cab than my GK head.

I also want to tell you this is the first gig i have ever done where my bass cut out. I couldn't believe it. What happened was the lead in the back of my receiver had pulled a mettle ring out of the jack socket. At the time i hadn't noticed it was still on the lead and i found i couldn't put the lead in to my bass. spent a while trying to get it in. Had to get the singer to go and get a spare guitar lead for me (we had a guest singer on stage at the time). That worked ok going from the bass to the amp but when i plugged the receiver back in it kept cutting out. Luckily it was near the end of the night. I didnt realise what had happened until after we had finished. The lead i had used was one of those that have a special jack plug that has springs to stop it from coming out of the socket and i guess this had caused the mettle ring to be pulled out of the receiver.
so now im going to have to super glue that part back on to my receiver and hope it doesn't happen again.

Guess its not been my year for gear.

Anyway, thanks for all the support over the last month.

13. Schroeder 1210 does it for me with one of my bands.
That cab and a good amp (MB LMII) can knock walls down.
The tone isnt to every ones liking but it does sit well in a mix out front and gets very loud.
Works fine with my 5 string 55-01

14.
Surely eBay is the place for a secondhand laptop bag? I got a new Dell lappy recently, and it came with a bag which I don't want to use. I looked at selling it on the bay, but it wasn't worth doing, as they only fetch a tenner or so. So I'll be using that bag for bunging my LM250 in instead
I think you are right cost wise but i looked around for a week or so and looked at maybe 10-15 different bags to find one i liked (and then didn't after using it once).
I wasn't exactly sure what i wanted but i had to actually look and try them before i got one. A lot fo the cheaper laptop bags dont have a padded bottom.
The one i got had this really thick rubber strip in in which would proted the amp when i put the bag down. Its just things like that that i needed to see first.

15.
My blacks do not stock that bag. Bugger. Found a nice one in Debenhams of all places, but £50, so we will see...need to ponder it.
Can you not order the Blacks one online?
Heres the link
Blacks

£50 is quite expensive IMO. PC world has a few nice well padded laptop bags for around £30-£40. The only thing that put me off them was the lack of a proper handle on the top.

16.
I used a leather mobile phone case! There are so many on the market, you pretty much can find one to fit! I think mine was a 'Krussel' case.
Actually i was just looking at some phone cases and i was also going to look in to small pocket camera cases as well.
I have a Krussel case that my Nokia 6600 used to be in and they are good cases.

the only problem i can see is having to secure it to the strap but i guess it wont be that difficult

cheers for the suggestion.

17.
I think I have the case for my iRiver HD120 or whatever it was called somewhere - if I can find it and you still need something drop me your address and I'll fire it off.
Thanks fro the replies guys.
Ill try and order the Thomann one to see how i go.
Dude, i dont suppose you have a photo of the back of the case do you?

Steve, thanks very much for the offer. I have a couple of MD cases i could use but quite like the look of the Thomann one.

18.
lol, yeah, when I used my old big MB head, Korg Rack Tuner and wireless all in a Gator 4U it kind of made it easier (if not heavier). Still, only need a little rig now, so this will do nicely.

Thanks for your help
No problem.

Off to bed now.

Night.

19.
Cool, I will nip in to blacks tomorrow (I work around the corner).

I need a new bag for my Shure SLX wireless, toolkit, leads, ipod, microtrack, leads, bla bla bla (my LMII goes in the MB bag, as you know), as the strap on my RokSak bag broke, so this looks to be the ticket.

LMII bag high on right shoulder, Blacks bag lower on same shoulder, 2 bass gigbags in right hand, cab in left hand. Job done.

Cheers

Chris
Nice one. good luck finding the bag. I didnt go out to get it but i only saw one by chance and it was the last one. Im sure they are around though.
I got a £40 laptop bag just after i got my LMII and while its slightly bigger it didnt have a handle on trhe top and i really missed that. Then i got the Blacks one and thought it was perfect untill i got my new AKG system. Its a bit of a tight fit now but it all goes in.
I now have to try and get the AKG in my large MB bag i use for my SA450. Its slightly bigger than the AKG GB system as it has the arial connectors sticking out the back but im sure it will fit somehow.
Oh for the old days where we had large flight cases that you could almost fit in (and a big van to move it all)

20.
how much was the bag dave?
It was £29.
It will work out well as after i have set up i can use the bag as a camera bag if we are hanging around for a while.

21.
Dave,

I think Levy's do one, admittedly not specifically for AKG but the generic shape tends to fit all. Gaffer'ing it to a strap does the job but is a real pain when you wanna change the battery.

The alternative is to look around for a MP3 player carry case. I brought a Creative player a few years ago and whilst the player went west many moons ago, I've still got the mighty fine case which fits the Sennheiser pack beautifully. I've gaffer'd that to a strap in the past and it means I was able to slide it in and out to gain access to the battery and controls without having to tape the actual pack.

However, all said and done, it's a pain having to change straps when i wanna change basses so for the most part nowadays, the wireless pack now resides in my back pocket where it's safe, is easily reached and doesn't get in the way when I'm changing basses.

T
Thanks Tony. Ill have a look to see if i can track the levy's one down (doubtful though).
I had my first gig with my AKG on Sat and while it worked great just clipped to my strap i realised that when my bass is sitting on its stand the strap (and transmitter) are on the floor and its very easy for someone to stand on it. I figured a pocket of some kind will make it easier to take off the strap during breaks. Im so used to just unplugging my GB and putting it on my amp.
I guess maybe just hooking it on my belt might be the best option. As my bass is active i have to unplug it anyway

22.
I have just taken the plunge and ordered one direct with Jorg Schroeder - what a nice guy.

I have gone with the 1212L in blue rhino finish.

I ordered it monday 18th and he is posting it to me this monday coming (25th) so hopefully I should have it for my gig next Friday.
Cool
I saw the pics of Ken jungs one over at TB, looks great.
