  1. Got my copy yesterday. It’s quite a tome, it’s much bigger and heavier than I was expecting. A quick flick through and it looks great. It says he only started collecting vintage basses in 2012! Not long to acquire so many, and so many custom coloured Fenders.

This features 250 of the most interesting basses in his collection, so how many does he own!

  2. Immaculate condition, this one could be considered as "New Old Stock" really.  Comes in a gig bag (it’s a bass gig bag so is a bit big for the guitar but it’s included). Has term arm. Was professionally set up last year, could do with some new strings but plays great. These are circa £500 new!

This was bought second hand a few years back but I really have no idea why I bought it, sticking to bass for the near future.

Cash on collection or paypal please, buyers are welcome to view in sandhurst (GU47 8** - although I only have a bass amp to try it with. I don't have the packaging for this so can't ship at the moment.

  3. Edit - Sold pending payment.

Edit - £110 inc UK postage

Comes with original box and instruction leaflet. I prefer the sound of a different fuzz pedal and have just bought the amazing darkglass compressor so this is surplus to requirements. Good condition, a few little marks and has Velcro on the base.

I found this works best with a really high volume signal feeding into it, I used a sans amp bass vt before it and it sounded better to my ears. Collection from sandhurst or I can post for another £7 to uk addresses. Cash on collection or Paypal.

  4. Edit - Price reduced to £220 delivered in the UK or £210 collected.

Now surplus to requirements thanks to a new Aguilar rig. This was brought from bassgear about 3 years ago and used probably about 20 times since. Great, extremely versatile sound. I love the VT circuit and I continue to use the VT pre-amp pedal on my board. 500 Watts @4 ohms. Eminently tweak-able tone with loads of variation, especially when you use the character, drive and blend controls.

Good condition bar one scrape on the front right corner (see pic no5.). Otherwise everything works as expected! No box or manual. Easy to download from the tech 21 website. Collection preferred from sandhurst. I have it packaged ready to ship if required. £240 collected and £250 inc UK shipping. Paypal or cash on collection.

  5. Replacing a saddle falls into a standard acoustic setup for most luthiers. It’s a cost  of up to £50-60 inc parts although I imagine this varies due to complications/ region etc.

Ive found that trying to discuss setup issues with any seller really difficult when trying to ascertain the playability of an instrument. It’s all so subjective down to the players expectations and playing style. I’ve never bought anything described as playing well that didn’t arrive requiring some amount of tweaking that would fall into the broad category of a setup. Depending on how much you paid for it this might be one you have to swallow up. I think I would in the circumstances unless it requires any more serious tech work.

Id see it as a minor investment into the potential enjoyment of owning the guitar. A luthier might well be able to make it play better than it ever did for any of its previous owners!

  6. I’m no expert but I can think of a few things from my own experience.

They had some hardware problems including a terrible nut design that kept snapping off, these are easily replaced with the latest one though. Their hardware seems to tarnish really fast compared to other brands as well.

For a while they changed the neck profile to a proper baseball bat, this got reverted back to a thinner style a few years later.

Ive seen a few with warped and properly delaminated necks, I couldn’t say for sure if this was down to a particular time period or if it’s just luck of the draw.

  7. I’m reading this trying to settle a teething baby! It’s really hard to find the time around parenting and work commitments to pick up the bass and open a book. Sometimes this doesn’t happen for me until after midnight. It’s a pain but I’m really glad every time I do manage to find the energy and headspace to do it.

It’s not going to be like this forever!
