1. after watching this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6Cd98DH__U
2. If you think about getting a pro sequencer, dont bother with logic(Time stretch in time machine anyone?! ). I've been using logic for the last 10 years and recently switched to cubase. I'd go for a second hand Macbook pro 2.4ghz with 2 gig ram. that should be enough for a big project with cpu hungry plugins like waves.
3. This thread makes me think about selling my kidney.
4. Very interesting, how much did you end up paying for everything? (bass, parts, installation). Can i guess that with the upgrades, this bass would sound better than MIA standard jazz?
5. Nice pictures. That 75 RI is really getting my GAS going!
6. The string spacing on the warwick is pretty tight, 16mm which is similar to the sr505. but the neck is much thinner on the Ibanez. I think i'd have to try it out and see how it feels.
7. thanks for the idea guys. I'll probably wait for a used sr505 to show up. Seems like an awesome bass for the price. How is the quality control for Ibanez? Can you get really good ones or bad ones for the same model?
8. Im looking for an inexpensive backup bass for my Streamer Stage II 5 strings. It should have similar neck profile and string spacing as the warwick so swapping between them shouldn't feel too different. Wood, electronics and hardware doesn't really matter but i would prefer a two pickup arrangement. My budget is £300 and I can buy new or wait till i find a good second hand deal. As far as i understand, Yamaha and Ibanez have very good value for money, but are the necks and spacing too different?
9. At the end of the day, its all down to taste. I find the second part of this video mind blowing and wanted to share with my fellow bass chatters!
10. I was just moving between videos on youtube and came across this video of Jaco. Im speechless ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdY-KAmj5fU...feature=related
11. His "[post="0"]Deprogramming[/post]" sessions are very amusing though!!! "A tribe isn't a tribe unless it has one Chief & many Indians. "
12. Who is this Ed Roman guy anyway? he seems to have some very strong opinions all over his site.
13.
Interesting reading about it can be found Here
A quote from that link: " Carl Thompson used Ron Blake to Ghostbuild hundreds of basses including one for Les Claypool, Stanley Clarke and Jeff Berlin. In fact Ron Blake built most of the Carl Thompson custom basses for over 15 years. " I dont know how reliable this information is, but this is some seriously disturbing information.
14.
Bernie fine tunes my GB's for me. Thats part of any decent luthiers after sales.
Really? even after a couple of years? If so, this is another justifications for a higher price tag.
15.
... I know Fodera players don't get their instruments for free by any means. Far from it.
On the last Bass Guitar Magazine there is an interview with Anthony Jackson and his journey with Fodera. Anyways, he also talks there about how Fodera Fine tune (setup) his bass and maintain it, even if he didn't get the bass for free this is priceless.
16.
I believe Sting has a special Custom Shop Fender to replicate his old '57 single coil, as does Andy Summers and David Glimour.
Sorry for my ignorant, but does fender Custom shop means that it has been built by hand?
17.
As if lead guitarists need to get any more arrogant...
LOL!
18. I think I believe Jeff Berlin when he says he only play that one bass, he seems extreme enough.
19.
Because they get paid to play them too ! Yamaha can afford it far more than some small custom luthier.
Does the contract they agree on with the bass manufacture also means they have to use the specific bass for recording as well? or is it only when they are in public?
20. Im usually not a naive person but i have a question that some of you might find funny or naive Do all these great basses such as Nathan East and Jeff berlin really play the instrument that they endorse? Or do they have a hand made, master luthier built one of a kind bass that is than replicated in some factory in china? I mean, why would Nathan East choose to play a factory made bass when he can have a hand made built to perfection bass? ( No offense to yamaha, i love their basses and think they are amazing for the price they sell for).
21. Ok after taking Bilbos advice, i got Mark Levine's ' The Jazz Theory Book' and i must say this book has it all. This book is very easy to understand, very well written and covers loads of ground. I will highly recommend this book to anyone who thinks about exploring jazz or music theory. One point that needs to be said tho, i think that in order to get the maximum out of this book, the reader needs to have access to keyboards.
