Have you tried contacting Laney about it? I've had very helpful customer service from them in the past (including sending out a replacement amp handle free of charge on an amp that was well out of warranty). I'm not saying they haven't messed up, but it might be worth sending them a polite email about it.

I actually saw them play a couple of years ago and as far as I remember it was mostly his Warwick and Lakland he was using. Is that Jazz in Sherwood green metallic? I've always liked that colour, and always liked block inlays too.

With the used prices of Warwicks, you should probably go German. I just bought my first bass after 14 years of playing electric guitar, picked it up yesterday: It's a 2004 Thumb 5 bolt on. Body is ovankol, neck is 3 piece ovankol, wenge fretboard, 24 frets. Tarnishing to some of the saddles and screws as you would expect and the JANII had disintegrated and been replaced with a nice bone one, but otherwise excellent condition, cost me £500, same as a new Mexican Fender P-bass would have cost me. And yes, it growls. If you are patient you should be able to pick up a Corvette for under £400, possibly even an active one.
