I just bought my first bass after 14 years of playing electric guitar, picked it up yesterday:
It's a 2004 Thumb 5 bolt on.
Body is ovankol, neck is 3 piece ovankol, wenge fretboard, 24 frets.
Tarnishing to some of the saddles and screws as you would expect and the JANII had disintegrated and been replaced with a nice bone one, but otherwise excellent condition, cost me £500, same as a new Mexican Fender P-bass would have cost me.
And yes, it growls.
If you are patient you should be able to pick up a Corvette for under £400, possibly even an active one.
