Did you lean it against the radiator and melt it?

Is he though ? I have not seen him advertised doing gigs at Butlins Soul Weekends.
He seems to always be popping up on US television shows, gala appearances, well just about anything. So still a regarded personality, plus the internet/social media is littered with this story.
Over at 'Discogs', he has fifteen pages of credits with albums and film scores/cues still being released and re released. Also, It was only eighteen months ago that there was a BBC Proms concert of his material and achievements at a sold out Albert Hall.
Depending on what review you read, his net worth over the last two/three years is quite substantial. (although it seems to vary from between $300 and $450 million).
True, but it's all behind him. Donald Trump is worth a shedload of cash, but that doesn't say a lot about his qualities...

Better to simplify the part and devise something that is musically correct that works in a band context than to play the "right notes but not necessarily in the right order". You can always work on getting closer to the original as time goes by.

Afraid he's a has-been trying desperately to stay in the limelight.

Another Peavey fan here. I think the main reason is that their Black Widow drive units were (can you still get them?) so good. I replaced the crappy Fender drivers in my old Bassman 2x15 cab with them and the improvement was massive. When I got my TE AH350 in the 80s, the sound of it with the cab was fabulous. Bulky and heavy rig, but wonderful sound.

As a drive unit is a drive unit and a watt is a watt, I suspect you'll be fine...

It's the bass players way to solve these kinds of puzzles
Appreciate that, but I find it simpler to have one of each.

I went to a blues jam once, it was hilarious. A group of tragically single sweaty men with long hair and expensive guitars clambering over each other to get to the stage, so they could reel off a series of predictable licks that nobody has been interested in hearing since about 1985.
One bored looking drummer and a bass player in the corner, playing the same boring honky tonk line on repeat for 6 hours while all the guitarists whack off all over the stage whilst flooring their wah pedals. Horrible.
I feel your pain. To be fair, they aren't all like that. I know of two blues jams locally to me which are run by good musicians where the backline amps for guitars are small (30w or so) and most people can actually play. There are the inevitable duffers who show, but they do their two party pieces and are tolerated with good humour.

Here's another example to illustrate bass players being the "poor relation in a band"
In the band I play in, I’m normally stuck at the back behind one of the guitarists who is 6ft 5in, but at one gig recently, there just wasn’t enough room in the tiny little corner I was in, so I had the audacity to move to the other side of the stage into the only space available, which happened to be right in front of the other guitarist who was also well over 6ft, so he easily towered over me seeing as I'm only 5ft 8in, but he was not happy, afterwards he complained that I had cramped his style, especially when he was doing his solo's, when I questioned him about his ego, he just said, “no one in the audience wants to see or hear the boring bass player, they only want to see the guitarists doing their solo’s”, and he mean’t it.
Why are you in a band with a plonker like hat? Suggest you leave immediately.

It's why I'm sold on the P/J - it's got all the grunt of a P bass
but you can dial in a bit of that Jazz tone too
If you want it / when you want it / leave it out if you want..... greatI have a Mex PJ and it doesn't really do the heavy, thick P bass sound. An approximation of it, but not quite the same. It's very versatile, however and does J tone as Marc says.

I never speak to guitar players unless absolutely necessary, so wouldn't have bothered me

Why try to make a J more like a P when you already have a P? Horses for courses and all that.

Me too. Fusion often have special offers, too, so you may save money.

As most basses are fretted, the majority of us needn't worry about the difference between C# and Db because there ain't one for our purposes.

To be fair he didn’t say pro what, you would like a professional idiot if you turned up to a gig with it.
True. They wouldn't hear you anyway if you used it at a gig.

Are you sure that's what he said...I couldn't make sense of it...
He did indeed. Also "look and sound like a real pro", which is even more hilarious.

Good to see it's made from a wood that's "highly prized for its tonal qualities". Will make all the difference when you play it with your ear jammed against it...
-
Any takers? Will last you for your "bass playing lifetime" apparently...

Shallow Gator rack case. They come in 2 or 3 u.

But apples and pears, right? An electric bass guitar and an acoustic double bass are very different beasts, with different sounds. Rock bands are generally not going to feature a double bass, right?
Surely the point here is that the cab should reflect what is coming out of the instrument (= flat) whether that be overtones (electric bass) or not (double bass)? With the BIG caveat that many bassists actually want the colour that their cabs provide.
Of course, hence my comment that I'm not criticising the fact that people like that effect. But it isn't accurate. If you want to know what your bass sounds like, route it via a good quality DI into your mixing desk and listen on good quality headphones. It can be surprising.

If you can find one (or more), the Ampeg SVT210HE does the classic Ampeg sound in a relatively compact format. Much better than the 210AV.
-
I still think we have become conditioned into hearing too bright a sound from basses these days. Listen to a double bass, which tends to produce mainly the fundamental of the note. Where are the bright overtones or the sizzle we hear from so many electric basses? I'm not criticising the fact that people like that effect, but it isn't necessarily accurate or "flat".

That looks thoroughly dodgy to me. Why is Friedland going public like that? No doubt we can look forward to an announcement of his new sponsorship from Aguilar shortly...

Sad. He's obviously let it get to him. Protesting too much and all that.
Who are we kidding - does great bass tone REALLY matter?

This +10. Applies not only to bass, but to all instruments. It's how it blends and works with what else is happening that counts. Interesting cross reference to the debate about Markbass cabs going on currently. They work in a band context, even though they may sound a little dull on their own.
