I use Servisol Super 10. The 200ml has lasted me forever.

Good old Servisol, I'll never use up my can.

Tried to buy lead solder (required for historic gear repairs) from RS 2 years ago, would not sell it unless I was in the trade.  Farnell supplied it but have a minimum order surcharge, not sure if RS do.

    How does anyone do it?

I was thinking the other day that I could sell a few and replace them... then I looked at them and thought, nah can't sell that one, or that one, or that one... Just can't bring myself to part with any of mine!

Like the old Love adage, better to have bought and sold than never bought at all.

Hmmm....... I bought a Fender Elite Precision on 14/4/18. Everywhere I looked it was exactly the same price. I thought to myself 'That's a bit suspicious'.

    I'm in.

Last buy was a Jazz,  same price everywhere and all dealers now selling the 2022 model (MIM) for £100 more - I guess Fender put their prices up, in the last 12 months I believe, but no surprise considering the economy.

A good scheme for lawyers to make a good return on their effort also. The VW Diesel scheme would have been huge - and yes I was in! (but did not blow it on GAS)

Warning: If you get sent a link to listen to the new Ed Sheeran and Elton John Christmas song, don't open it.
It's a link to listen to the new Ed Sheeran and Elton John Christmas song.

I'm saving my money for Christmas with Cliff - Out now! 19 years has been a long wait.

Couldn't say, really, whether you did indeed read that somewhere, but Behringer are entering the modular synth market too. ;)

There's talk of a Roland 100M clone and there's talk about cheap modules - reportedly Eurorack modules. The Neutron again is semi-modular - - though I don't know whether its cv standards mean it can be directly connected to Eurorack. Would suppose so.

To resurrect an old thread, yes loads of Behringer Eurorack (Moog modular copies) modules out. If you put their Model D in there, that's when you realise there is no CV out available on the D. And no S trigger out, but the Model D gate inputs appear to output active high gate out signals! Strange. (you can hack into CV out on the back of the circuit board  at the 1V/octave test point)

Must admit I was sceptical about this, are there going to be endless remixes every time technology moves on a bit? but having listened to it there is obviously a significant improvement.

One thing has always struck me about remixes in general, the bass is always more prominent, I'm guessing because originally it couldn't be too loud because of the limitations of vinyl, but that is not the case with the improvement over the 2015 remix of this track.

I won't have to buy it though, thanks to spotify, having got the original LP I think I've paid my bit to the Beatles coffers

I read somewhere that Jameson's bass was low in the mix, else it made the pickup arm jump out of the vinyl track. Odd since pickups back then weighed about half a ton.

  7. There is an 85% rule out now.  If you don't achieve at least 85% success, you are not trying hard enough to progress.  Not sure how to interpret and measure this,  but for me I suppose If I try to play a B7 chord on guitar, I need at least 85% success.

I have always used the mini wire cutters that are part of my electronics kit. I always found nail clippers to be too flexible and blunt to really do a clean job. The wire cutters leave a clean edge so I never need to file.

Oddly enough, I had my first ever podiatrist visit a couple of weeks back to look at a corn problem I am having and he used what looked exactly like a stainless-steel version of my mini wire cutters.

Same here. Bahco electronics side cutters, used the same pair for 25+ years, made in Sweden, still as sharp as hell. Also cuts through the toughest toe nails.

I thought Fender's use of the name came from V. C. Squier, an American string manufacturer who were bought out by Fender in the 60s.

A bit more history, I believe Squier made the strings for Leo's first P.

Hi guys, I sometimes get this issue where I get a split in my skin, it starts at the fingernail then works its way up the finger.  I need advice on what to put on it to patch it and allow me to continue playing, I heard superglue, but looking for options as it can be painful.

I work in heavy industry, I use gloves, clean my hands and moisurise regularily, still my hands have a hard life, thats just how it is.

I used to get those every winter, very painful. When I took up the bass the problem mostly went, split never worked past the hard calluses on 6 of my fingers! Though my hands have an much easier life punching a computer keyboard. I found Lotil (from boots) to help (mostlly to reduce pain) but did not apply too frequently as it softened calluses.

  11. That is the weirdest wiring diagram I've seen! Would expect the  (busy) switch to drop out the tone which is not required but they both seem to be always in circuit, the switch only selects the PU hot wires.

There is something odd, there seems to be no hot connection to the neck volume. It is marked White like the bridge vol, but nothing connects to it. - I think there is a missing connection on the drawing. The Blue loom has 4 wires coming from the switch, but only 3 going to the Volumes, (2 to vol grounds and 1 to Bridge vol  hot),  I presume this is only an error on the drawing. But both tones seem to be always in circuit. Never understood why 2 tones are needed on a passive bass, active I can understand.

  12. Does it have a PU selector switch? There are a couple of wiring diagrams in the link below. In the neck only or bridge only position the other tone circuit should be isolated. There may be some interaction in mix if both vols are high.

Maybe your wiring is different? There are only two models shown .

There used to be a mega pdf with almost every schematic known to man, but I can't find it now. Think it was a German website.

There is a menu on the page top left, I had to hit page refresh to replay some of the embedded samples on Firefox browser, of course the bass parts are the coolest.

It is good that Delia Derbyshire finally got credit for this creation.

I'd question that a Jazz is an "easier" bass to play than a Precision.

If anyone finds a Precision more difficult, they need to work harder on their technique.

P was my first bass. Can't play a J, not sure why, P is easier.

How many of You here use string boiling and is there different ways of doing that? How do You like the result?

I used an ultrasonic cleaner, same result. Once had a set boil dry, never again! Ruined Mrs P's best saucepan.

I’ve just shielded a recent build with that slug tape and can confirm that the glue is indeed conductive enough (resistance test with multimeter) to not need to solder each join. Mind I did solder leads to each pickup cavity and feed those back to the control cavity shield before connecting that and the bridge earth to the ground on the output jack. Result is the quietest passive bass I’ve ever owned.

Both products are probably the same stuff, can't imagine a slug tape  factory and a (higher volume) EMI shielding tape factory.
