1.
I've bought a Fender Japan Jazz 62ri body but it doesn't have a scratchplate. I remember reading somewhere that the holes will only line up with a Japanese scratchplate. Is that true? Anyone know where I can get one?
Is this true?
I too have a Japanese Jazz that I was thinking of changing the scratchplate on. I foresee another nightmare scenario approaching...

  2.
Where the bands hardly ever get paid anyway
Ain't that the truth! Most dirt holes only put on original bands because they know the singer's thirst for booze will ensure they break even on a Monday night. Even if there's only 4 punters in the audience!
Pubs in my area are generally suffering - down to many things such as cheap supermarket booze, smoking ban, increased costs etc as well as the 'credit crunch'.
Indeed.
There's a pub in Bradford where my old band must've played 4 times in 18 months; it's recently stopped doing live music altogether for the reasons listed above. The guy who ran it had been doing live music at that venue for 10 years.

    Bad times ahoy. :)

  3. I've got some EMG pickups (P5J set) that have got standard pickup wires and not the Quik-Connect cables.

I'm thinking of getting an EMG BQC preamp to go with the aforementioned pickups, which prompts the question: will the preamp come with Quik-Connect wiring or will my 'normal' wires be OK?

    Cheers.

  4.
I think the string spacing is different - the OLP is 17mm whereas if the bartolini MM pickup is for a 'ray it will be 19mm.
I thought all barts used bar magnets, so string spacing shouldn't make much difference; providing the strings vibrate within the magnetic field created by the magnets.

Or have I got it wrong?

  5. I also have one, which I got secondhand.
It's top banana for the money involved. I got the vintage burst finish.
I don't think I'll be getting LEDs in mine, but I'll be pimping it a little....
I'd have no problems gigging it either, in present state or 'when pimped'.

  6.
What case would you be sending it in mate? A G&L one?
Nothing that flash, I'm afraid.
I was throwing the case in as part of the 'shipping deal' because it's mega-solid and will offer sweet protection whilst in transit. It's also pretty weighty. It's a black, oblong, ABS affair with a few stickers and if (IIRC) a bit of blue spray paint on it. If you wanted to clean it up it shouldn't be difficult. Structurally & fittings-wise it's A-OK.

    Thanks.

  7.
Can you tell me what the heel width is please?
Well, here I go. I don't know if these figures will mean anything, and i measured then using a steel tape measure.

The heel pocket looks about 70mm from bass side to treble side.

The body wood is 25mm thick at the heel, and the neck wood (inc f/board) is also 25mm at the heel.

Are these figures what you were after? I apologise if they're not.

    Thanks.

  8.
Can you tell me what the heel width is please?
I'll have a look/measure tonight, and post it tomorrow.
By 'heel width' do you mean from 'bass' side to 'treble' side, or from back of heel to the front of the fretboard.

I've never been asked about heel width before!

    Thanks

  9. I've got a 5 string tribute up for sale at the moment on here.

They're rock solid; and as most of the controls are passive, you've still got a good amount of tonal control if/when the battery dies mid gig!

Obviously I'm a little biased though.

  10.
Hey lovely Bass, I dont suppose you could send over some sound clips of it? Ive never reeally heard G n L yet!
    Cheers
    (bumpin)
Erm, I don't have any sound clips or any way (that I know) of recording any.

Does anyone have any G&L tones ready recorded that I can borrow? Preferably from a G&L with an ash body, and a maple neck & fingerboard?
    They'd be muchly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  11.
Has this not gone? Surprised. For anyone lusting over a SR5, this is a similar sound for half the price!
It's still up for sale.
Couldn't agree more. Must be the best value Bass on the market, (except the Spector Euro 5 I got brand new for £499).
It'll do Stingray, Jazz and P-Bass. No need to carry different basses around.
This credit crunch is obviously hitting us low-enders hard
Kinda annoying that it's still here because I'm waiting to sell mine now and don't want to tread on the toes of this listing because mine's a fairly similar colour!!
That's extremely civilised noisedude. After all, we don't want a price war. :)
If this was a 4 stringer I'd be resisting the overwhelming temptation to get the wallet out!
Don't look at it as a 5 string; look at it as a 4 string with a long (and versatile) thumbrest.
Too right.

I bought yorks5stringer's spare in Sunburst.....absolutely fabulous bass.

In truth, the ash/maple one would be my first choice, they look great. If you've still got it when I win the lottery this weekend, I'll give you a nudge. Other than that, have a free bump on me.
If you win the lottery, the price'll go up. If you don't win the lottery you can have it for the prices quoted above.
It's hard to believe, but your life could actually be enriched more if you don't win the lottery!

Thanks for the input (& bumps) guys.

  12.
Man that's one sexy bit of kit!!!
I wish I knew you had this when you bought me Cirrus we could have done a trade mate!! :)
If I had better timing I'd turn pro!
I have the Usa version of this bass in sunburst, it has a great sounding pre amp & pickups.
The B sounds nice & fat too.
Cheers dude.
