1. I've got a VM 70s jazz, a VM jazz fretless & a CV jazz. Oh and a Deluxe 5 sting jazz.
They're all flipping killer, and the VM basses have been uber pimped to my specs.
The CV jazz & 5 string will be pimped when I can afford the sweet bits to go on them.

From a construction & playability point of view, they slay the competition. When my VM 70s jazz landed on my doorstep the action was so low I couldn't get my fingers under the G string to pop notes; not a hint of fret buzz either. Pure class!

Squier have really upped their game in the last few years, and I'm showing my approval by splashing the cash.

I did have one of the squier VM telebasses, which was also class. I didn't really have anywhere to anchor my plucking hand thumb on it, so I moved it on. It too was very nice.

I'd also like to point out that I bought all of these basses blind (mail order new, or secondhand from basschatters or off ebay) and never received a turd.
If you can't get to try one locally then I'd say risk buying one blind. Or bag one up from on here.

  2.
anybody bought one?
I have, largely on the back of machines review.

I think I paid about £260 for mine from imuso, and I've had it nearly a year. I bought it blind (ie mail order) and was well chuffed with what I got. I got it delivered to work, and when I unpacked it the guys in the post room were stunned into silence; they couldn't believe how up-market it looked given it's price.

There were no construction issues, it's solid and comfortable to play. The sound is pretty modern; this is no fender clone.

Overall I think 'vintage' have done well with this one.
If you're not a label-whore (ie aren't bothered that 'vintage' is written on the headstock) and can bag one up for £250, you're getting a lot of bass for your cash.

  3. I've got an aphex bass xciter, and was wondering if the signal from it should go into the active or passive input on my amp?
I'd have thought it should go in the active input, because it's extremely similar to an active EQ circuit.

Does anyone have any definitive answer to this?

    Non-definite is OK as well.

    Thanks,

  4.
I think it's Anthony Jackson
I know Anthony Jackson played on a lot of her stuff, and he'd be my suggestion also.
Here's the wiki on him: AJ

    EDIT:
In fact, looking at the album that song is taken from (Chaka Khan by Chaka Khan) I know AJ played on 'ain't nobody', so there's a good chance he cut other tracks as well.
Watch me get shot down in flames now!

  5.
www.gak.co.uk do.
Their prices aren't bad, and are certainly one for consideration!
IIRC, it's Gibson uk!
    i have a phone number, but i'm not sure it's correct - 0800 444 27661
I looked on the Gibson website and there were about 4 shops in the UK that handle their goodies. That's tame for a big group like Gibson. :)
PMT in Leeds sell them, maybee they can help you.
That's quite close by, I might pop in tomorrow and talk some shop.

    Nice one guys!

  6. I was wanting to contact epiphone UK (if such an organisation exists) and don't know how.

I know rosetti don't distribute them anymore, and someone mentioned that Gibson now handle all the epiphone duties.

Does anyone know who I can talk to about epiphone guitars in the UK?

    Thanks in advance.

.. in the region of what?
A guide price would be useful, or so I reckon.

    Unless I've missed it.

  8.
I considered a Bartolini passive but I can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that stocks them
the gallery stock them, though they may be out of your £100 price range.

I got a bart 5 string MM pup off ebay (second hand) for about £40 inc p&p. They'll pop up every once in a while.

You could probably get a bart MM pup from the US shipped over here for around £100. US site

    Good luck.

  9. I've just bought a Dearmond Pilot bass off joe_bass, and the transaction went smooth as silk. The bass landed up at my house in one piece, untainted by courier's bootprints; what a result!

  10.
tort on white is possibly the best combo on fenders.
Correct! That's why I have 2 with that combination.
I played a squier P bass the yesterday and was suprised by how good it sounded so i'd be interested in looking into squiers a bit more.
Join the club. Some of the recent additions to the squier range are absolute belters. I've got one of these CVJs, a VMJ, and a P bass special; I was enlightened by them all.

A good bass for pimping as well, should those antics float your boat.

  11.
I'd also like to see your referenced source for the "sports cars in his palatial dwelling" comment.
I can only comment from what I saw on TV, he may have a rusty old transit now. It was a few years ago that I saw it. Maybe he had well-heeled visitors around for lunch? Whatever the explanation, this vicar appeared to be 'rolling in it'.
In fact, it was part of a tongue-in-cheek "Matrix" style promotional video for a men's prayer meeting that was given the usual "Won't somebody think of the children" treatment by the media looking for a story.
Furry Muff. From the bits I saw it didn't look like a Waco-style recruitment video or anything, in fact I remeber finding it pretty funny.

  12. Sorry to take things off topic for a second...
"I don't know where ALC is in Bradford"

It's in Wapping, if you are stood outside Canal Road Tescos it is the massive modern building right up on the hill looking towards the Leeds Road area: in fact I've just looked out my office window in the centre of Bradford and can see it from here too!
It's the big, grey, double warehouse saying 'Abundant Life Church' in neon purple. A past parishoner told me it was built as a warehouse so if the church 'folded', the warehouse would offer more 'development opportunities' (ie sell easier) than a 'traditional' church building. It's a thriving business at the moment, and hence it's recent expansion into a mini citadel.
Has it got one of those "progressive" vicars who wears a leather jacket and smokes weed and stuff?

    I love those!

They usually get caught shagging the 17 year old daughter of one of the parishioners.
The 'vicar' is (surprise surprise) self appointed, and has a penchant for sports cars which are parked in the grounds of his palatial dwelling.
He got in trouble a few years ago for filming a promo video in which he wore sunglasses, a leather coat, and was brandishing a (replica?) MP5 machine gun.
Also, other churches in the area question how much 'Christian' work the ALC do, you'd be hard pressed to find any of them doing a soup run, or a jumble sale for Christian Aid week.

We've all seen Genesis' Jesus He Knows Me video, and IMO the ALC parishoners are getting fleeced in the most appalling way. Even if charity does start at home.

    Slightly more on-topic:
I saw some of the MOBO awards the other week and they have a Christian/Worship category. A lot of the clips I saw sounded & looked like straight-ahead chart-fodder. I'd never heard anything like it!
