Anyone got any solutions (except get a different guitar player!!) which should reduce the time taken to for our guitar player to change from being Gary Moore to Robin Trower in an instant?

    A good therapist!

I would wager that most of his faffing about is psychological, or nerves, or both. I guess someone has told him that getting the precise depth setting on his chorus and delay isn't important.

If all that knob twiddling really is necessary then maybe a reliable friend/roadie could twiddle for him.

Very sad IMO, Phil really should not be doing this, it's his choice obviously but he looks a poorly man :(

    Yeah, he looks quite frail!

The band, doctors and insurers must feel confident that he is capable of completing the tour with no adverse effects.

I haven't seen the tour schedule, so don't know how intense it is, but...

The major stresses with tours of this nature is not so much the performing, but the lack of sleep due to different hotels (we all sleep better in our own beds), the travelling, the meet n greets, and the many interviews and general promo stuff. My guess is that Banks, Rutherford and everyone else involved will make sure that Phil is excused all that, and his load is made as light as possible.

  3. The clip credits Soundfiles and Video to someone called Rainer Wind (can't be his real name, can it?😀) On further investigation, Rainer Wind is a German bass player who demos loads of stuff on line. He demos a G&L Jazz Bass which sounds very similar to the OPs clip.

I don't know if anyone else gets this but if I play in a loud band these days my ears will shut down after 20 mins and I can't hear the guitar or vocals clearly, it just becomes a distorted noise.

I think that's normal... even with healthy ears! Certainly, in my younger pre tinnitus days, when playing in or listening to amplified bands, the sound would become very dull and lacking top end very quickly. Sadly, that is now what I have to permanently live with, in addition to the constant high pitched buzzing noise.

    Brace yourself.

    Indeed!

I was a huge PG era Genesis fan, and quite liked some of the PC era stuff. Live - PG, or PC era - they were phenomenal!

In the Last Domino? vid, I got as far as That's All.

I know it was a rehearsal, but... Phil didn't sound like he was even in the same room as the other guys😔

Rather than watch the rest of the video I'd rather remember them as they were.

Having said that... some of the greatest moments of Genesis have been the instrumental pieces (Firth of Fifth for ex). If PC's son is up to the job those sections will still sound great live.

If there was an "InstruGenesis" tour I'd be up for a ticket.

  6. Excessive singer monitor levels (wedges & sidefills) is a problem that we have had to deal with for several years. It's the reason for my permanent ear damage. Loud 24/7 ringing in the ears is no fun!

Sadly, It's a problem that we still haven't really resolved.

Unless your singer is prepared to compromise you'll have to either quit, sack him, or live with it.

  7. I was in a band booked to play Westfield College in November '75.

After soundchecking, some scruffy 'erbert, in the widest Oxford Bags imaginable, came up to us and told us they were going to be playing, and that they would be using our PA!!!! Later that evening, during their set, the singer announced to those that were still in the hall, "We're The Sex Pistols... Have fun!" I remember getting the distinct feeling that he didn't really mean it!

Anyway, to the point... I want to know who's going to be playing me!

... but both consultants were less than useless when asked about the tinnitus - "oh, don't listen to that"... easier said than done!

WTF I think I would check with the GMC that they are registered and qualified to practise.

  9. Another (very bad) tinnitus sufferer here!

I'm 66, played loud gigs all my life with no protection. I got away with it until about 10 years ago. The straw that broke the camels back was having a singer who monitors very loudly and refuses IEMs. There were a couple of shows where the volume from sidefills was so loud that it felt like a knitting needle had been pushed into my ears.

I'm not blaming him, it's obviously the accumulation of many years volume abuse.

Needless to say, I've shut the door after the horse has bolted, and now use custom ear plugs.

I'm aware of it pretty much 24/7, but can live with it most of the time. Although, the constant ringing does p*** me off when watching movies or listening to music at home.

  10. For many musicians who tour EU countries regularly (of which, I am one), this is potentially good news!  Re carnets: A lot of bands (such as ourselves) keep their gear on the continent. Many other bands will have promoters hire in equipment, so for a lot of bands carnets shouldn't be a problem.

Unfortunately, I don't see the carnet situation being resolved. A lot of countries on the continent require carnets. EU countries will now most likely require the same.

I couldn't read the whole article as I don't subscribe but would be interested to know what format the recordings will be and what makes people think that the tech to play it will still be available in the future. It's conceivable that we consider high res now will be superseded by some other tech and the current formats will disappear over time in the same way that its difficult to find something to play a phonograph cylinder these days and that tech is only 100 odd years out of date.

I don't subscribe, but could read the whole thing. It is a small article.

I've looked around the internet for a little more info, but couldn't find much more.

Apparently they are going to use a "Future-proof digital storage"😂

I'm not sure the resolution of recordings will increase significantly, mainly because the limiting factor will be the brain of the listener.

"Brain"? In a thousand years brains will be soooo last millennium:crazy:

  12. This seems to answer that oft discussed topic, "How long into the future will The Beatles music be listened to?"

The article brings up more questions than it answers.

I'm a huge Beatles fan, but can't help thinking, musically speaking... Post apocalypse, wouldn't it be nice to just start again(?)
