1. Favourite Amps:
Orange terror bass, 1 trick pony but i like it & loud
Eden WT800 - Best reggae amp ever but had reliability problems
Carvin BX1500 - most versatile amp ever, super clean.
Markbass LMT 800 - Good amp all round.

    Worst:
Behringer sh*te thing...set fire at first rehearsal
    Ashdown Mag thing...bland at best
Hartke LH500...It was kind of OK but that was about it
Old Peavey that was a modern day tank equivalent - super mushy.

In the middle: currently enjoying my new Ashdown Retroglide 800W but not sure it really is 800W - intersting concept with 12 band EQ only & good core tone. Genz Benz Streamliner - was good but lacked versatility IMO- Shuttle was a tad better. Most Markbass amps have been cool but i rarely ever keep one for long with the exception of a past LMT and a Multiamp, Ampegs I've owned are OK to but the Pro 4 was way to heavy, Trace Elliot's i've found to thin sounding IMO. Hartkes are just OK for me although loved the classic HA 3500 as my first 'proper' amp. Love Eden sound but always feared the reliability since owning a temperamental WT800A.

  2. Bought recently on a whim off a guitard who needed to sell off some gear. He barely used it...if at all, and had it from new. Excellent clean condition as I've barely use it too. Has Toneprint so you can add FX to the amp using a smartphone i.e. Choruses, overdives etc. Surprisingly loud and a quirky bit of kit with the tone print, built in tuner (does 5 & 6 strings too), mute switch etc...See specs for full detail:

    Specs: http://www.tcelectronic.com/bh250/

Would trade up for Markbass amp to go with my growing collection of Markbass speakers i.e. LM2/3 etc

Or sell for £150 (not £160) plus P&P or collect from Plymouth or Tavistock (Devon)

Lovely looking bass ! do you know if that is the original bridge ?
I was wondering this. Looks like a Schaller 3D bridge ? Also are the electronics original? The body looks in great nick for its age. If the Stingray body is a vintage it should have a neck stamp in the pocket.

  4. So as requested NBD day and a quick update on recent other gear. I'm not one for massive amounts of typing...do enough of that in the clinical day job so it will perhaps resemble something similar to a John Humphrys morning weather forecast (Radio 4).
    Obligatory picture:

Harley Benton Jazz, B Stock...cost £141 to my Devon door. No marks that i've found yet - like new! Amazing ash one piece body - lovely grain, resonant. heavy @ 9.6lbs but doable and balances well. Sound - pretty decent at stock. PU's seems good but i may throw some spare VanderEnd customs in at some point as they're great. Pots are crap, crackly tone and only effective at the nearly off point - will replace. Neck is superb - very smooth and the action is super low without buzz - I did tweak the truss rod a little to achieve this. Would i buy again? - yes totally 8/10 for me. Bargain & a great bass to modify!

Recently bought a Ashdown Retroglide 800 amp - bought Andertons B-stock £340 to my door. Slightly bigger and heavier than anticipated but not a problem. Fan not noisy on mine like other commentators have mentioned. Simple to use with the EQ controls only, great tone vintage to hifi - warm core tone which I like. Not sure its really 800W, my Orange OTB appears louder. Simplicity is its beauty and i'm really happy with it. Not gigged it yet though. I like it but would not pay the original RRP of over £700...funk that! but it is cool, retro, and packs a punch.

Also impulse buy of a TC elec. BH250. Again bigger than anticipated, generally ok but not exciting, Tone print a good novelty, like having the built in tuner too, overall frickin loud. I like it but may sell eventually and get an Elf once I've read a few decent reviews about that.

Encore 3/4 size P - bought this for the daughter locally, surprisingly good core tone, light, action resembled an Olympic high jump but relatively sorted now - few buzzes. 7yr old daughter loves...Daddy loves it better.

    Over & out :)

Some complaints that that these are quite modest in overall volume, given the high wattage, and that the fan's noisy? Would you agree?
Hmmm, yes I'm a little skeptical about the overall output volume, probably not 800W but still easily loud enough for most band situations i should imagine. I will be trying the RetroGlide in a band context later this week at a rock band rehearsal and then a reggae gig at the weekend. I didn't think the fan was over noisey in my opinion. I've also just acquired a TC BH250 head and i thought the fan on that was considerably noisier by comparison.

As I say what i do like is the simplicity of the EQ for tonal variation, it feels more targeted at certain frequencies to get your sound (hope that makes some sense), and I did also like the core tone. It has a nice warmth with the 100hz boosted to get a vintage vibe but equally with tweaking a bit you can get good modern sounds. I like it but have only tried it at home so far, I would not pay the high prices for it but i feel i got a good amp for the £340 i paid from Andertons.

  6. It is a pleasure to leave Pedro, aka dirtyharry, his first feedback comments here. By his own admission he has been reading Basschat for many years but has been hesitant to contribute until now due to a lack of confidence in his English writing skills...that said Pedro's English is better than mine reading through our PM communications. Pedro has now introduced himself to the forum and I feel Basschat has gained another good guy.

So, I sold Pedro a Markbass combo 2x10" and sent it to his home country of Portugal. All went super smoothly with great communications throughout. Total trustworthy guy in my opinion and I would have no hesitations to deal with him again.

Seems very affordable to me, especially compared with GAK's retail price.

Just bought one of these and I'm really impressed - great core tone and a lot of tonal variation with the EQ, nice warmth - very powerful too. I payed £340 for mine from Andertons but some retailers have had them up for over £700.

  8. Got this not so long back in a trade via here with the fine bass chatter Mickeyboro. Plans have fallen through for needing this wonderful combo now and I'm mostly using in ears at present, or occasional seperates. The combo is in fine fettle and sounds great, comes with a Roqsolid cover too.

Original Basschat sale post here for detail: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry3332092

Drop your tuning at the flick of a switch - great for drop D tuning. Got one of these sitting unused:

The Hipshot BT8 Bass Extender Key helps you strike the low end on your electric bass with confidence. The key fits 2008 and newer Fender American Standard Precision and Jazz Bass 4-string models. Now you only need one bass on the stage to tackle complex drop tunings, as these keys unlock ultra-precise bass tone. Installation is a snap, and once the Hipshot bass extender key is in, you're ready to go.

The weight has always put me off, I remember reading about a collector who had two, the "light weight one came in at 15lbs the heavy one at a back breaking 22lbs!
These are probably the Ibanez Studio model, very similar to the Musician model but significantly heavier - for the tone I guess. I've had both briefly and the Studio was close to 15lbs whereas my old Musician was 11lbs from memory...still too heavy so I sold that one too but as already said they're truly great basses and tone monsters.
