Cheers Andy. It was a good buy I have to say. Couple of marks on the back but as a first go with my own BB (I can’t count @Al Krow ‘s) I’m quite surprised. Might benefit from some new strings.
Any recommendations on strings for these for an old Skool no slapping vibe?
Use Chromes on my 424X and i think they sound awesome.

Had a very nice offer on a 424x so might go with that.
Will wait until tonight to decide.
Go for the 424x Andy. I have. The 1024x and 734A. I always end up picking up the 424x for rehersals or gigs.

It was a very early one. I don't think is was a Pro model. It had scratch plate and some one had hand painted it Maroon. If i recall correctIy it passive too. I didnt like the neck and it deffinatley didnt sound like any Wal i had heard before. I liked everything about the Yamaha better than that Wal. If i was comparing this too to one of the Pro models i suspect it would of been a different outcome.

That looks so much better than the first photo you posted. I had one of these many years ago in a natural finish. Stupidly got it converted to fretless only to realise i cant play fretless. Part exchanged it at the Manchester Bass Center for a very early Wal bass. I preferred the Yamaha.
Took a 15 year Hiatus after that. Always wonderd what happened to that 1100s. Managed to get a few BBs now yo take my mind off it.

I have recently brought a used set of Chromes from here to use on my Yamaha BB424x.
I was wary about buying new strings in case the tension was too much fot me.
I needn't of worried as the tension is perfect for me and the sound is exactly what i was looking for. Used them at rehersal last week and the band said it was the best sound we have ever had.
Previously i have tried the cheap Olympia flats. Used them on the Yamaha through a Trace Elliot 2 x10 combo and it was honestly the best sound i have ever had. Unfortunately it didnt last as the strings lost that intial brightness and just sounded thumpy.
I have also tried TI flats. Loved the low tension and flexability of them but didnt really like the core sound of them.
So far the used Chromes are hitting the spot, so much so that i have left my band new BB734a at home and using the 424x with the Chromes on them. Great strings and would deffo buy new ones when these need replacing.

Just bought some strings from Cliff. Really smooth and easy transaction. Great communication throughout.
You can definitely deal in confidence with Cliff

Just got myself a new BB734a in the matt black finish. First impressions are it definitely lighter than my BB1024X. The Fit and finish is absolutely top draw. In passive mode it doesn't seem quite as loud as the 1024X but in active mode its absoloutley thunderous, whith lots of usable tones.
The neck profile is a bit slimmer than the 1024x front to back but both of them feel really comfortable. Not had a chance to try it at volume yet but should get a opportunity this week. Got great service from Wunjos who had it sent up to Liverpool in a flash.
Just a pity that Dawsons in Liverpool would not price match them and lost out on my business.
So top marks to Yamaha and Wunjos

Cheers Chris; looking forward to fitting them.

If these are still avalable I will have them. Can you PM me to sort out payment.
Regards Mike

Try removing them and give the a good wipe over. It's possible a leftover from the manufacturing process.
Mine are not sticky at all and feel really smooth under your fingers.

I have just bought Chris's Barefaced super 12. Chris was a pleasure to deal with, great communication throughout the process, he even provided maps so l could find his place ok.
Would deffinatley by again from Chris and would reomend him without hesitation.

The first time I used the Olympia flats on the BB 424x was through an old Trace Elliot combo. I was amazed at the tone these strings produced. They have lost some of their initial brightness now but they will be staying on for good. Really suits the the guitar

Has anybody else tried Olympia flats. Really cheap at £13:99. Low tension, great sound and feel to them. I actually took a set of TI Flats off my Yamaha BB4424x to fit these and I really do prefer them. Well worth a punt at this price.

The 424x sounds great with flats on. I've tried Thomastik TI flats which were great but a bit pricey. Currently using a cheap £15 brand called Olympia from Amazon and I really like them. Great feel to them. Both sounded great on the 424x.

I tried the SR 505 in my hunnt to break into 5 string. It was my first choice as I already have the SR 500 which is a fantastic bass . Unfortunately I couldn't play a thing on the 505. The string spacing was way too tight for my fingers. The weight and baance were fine but for me it was unplayable.
Not tried the TŔBX but have tried the BB425 and that was easier to play but ultimately I realised quite quickly I don' get on with 5 strings.

Farida really punches way above its weight. Slim Jazz style neck too.
