2.
What exactly is wrong with the amp: are you sure it's not just a loose connection?
see the 'Ithink my amp is shagged' post on the amps and cabs board lol
 3.
Sorry! I'll be gone by then! Staffs uni is pretty easy to nick from - if you know any student that know their way around the stafford campus you could get yourself a nice free combo.
lol I don't sadly. Have put an ask up on freecycle so we shall see.
 4.
If you can make it down to cresswell ST11 9RD in the next hour I can lend you one.
Balls.. I haven't got the car until gone 5.30 You're literally 1/2 hr away from me as well.
 5. I know it's a massive longshot but am having problems with my amp and have a gig tomorrow night.. can anyone lend me a combo or 8ohm cab for the night? Can return it sunday morning... Payment in beer? Thanks in advance
 6.
You're in danger of 'making' that happen. Calm down. By stepping on to that stage you take the first steps into a place you want to feel is home. It's new. It's odd. You can't quite fit with it etc. But it's home. Things will go wrong tomorrow - OK? That's the deal. It's the same for me and I've been doing it for nigh on 30 years. Only difference is I'm used to it and have learned how to cope. Allow yourself to learn too. Expect the unexpected - but don't try and work out what that will be. Tomorrow - be an actor. Be confident beyond what you feel. Be the best bass player that ever lived even when you're not. Know all there is to know even though you don't. Soon it'll be 2 gigs - then 5 - then 20. Sooner than you think. You'll find you have to act less and less as it becomes a real part of your life.
Thanks.. that makes a lot of sense.
 7. Well we've been working towards this for so long.. and you know what the say.. the first one's always the worst..
 8.
I can lend you a peavey 1 x 15" combo if you want? I'm 30mins at the most from Stafford. When is the gig though? I am away tonight and tomorrow day. I reckon it's the speaker distorting. Buy/beg/borrow a cheap 2nd cab to add to your combo (if it can handle it) or borrow an amp at the gig IMHO. I would DI rather than mic up an amp that's "shagged".
Tomorrow night. lol If I knew who the bands were I'd ask but seeing as the promoter won't reply to my messages.. lol
 9.
Can I make a really stoopid suggestion? Does the RBW300 have a built in compressor? (Try PULLING the gain control). Same thing occurred on my Linebacker combo and the compressor sorted it.
it's got a seperate compressor switch, which was already on. lol
 10. Gas is incurable. There'll always be something better or more appealling out there...
 11. There are bands on but the promoter is a doof and rarely replies to my messages (I've asked him who the bands are before.. no response. Last I heard from him there were 2 other bands on but no idea who. I'm really... really.... tempted by a little giant 350....
 12.
Buy one of these
13.
Best bet if you can't use a cab is get it DI'd at the gig and use it for monitoring yourself.
Well from what I saw by scoping up the venue last week was that all the amps are mic'd. So I should be fine for this gig... it's just future gigs I'm worried about!
 14.
Has it become flappy at high volume, or was it always like that? Combo's like your Laney, and the Peavey 1x15 I used to have, aren't really designed to run flat out. As they are 100% solid state the powerstage will start to clip early and do nasty things to the speaker, increasing the bad sounds you talk about. If you find you are using the amp turned all the way up then yes, it is time for a new amp, not because its sh*gged but because you need more volume. Retire your Laney back to bedroom/practice use where it can serve out its days in peace
That's a good question. As I've only recently started using it at high volumes it's hard to say but I've only noticed it badly the last time I used it (Weds). Have used it a hand full of times at high volumes before that though.
 15.
So it doesn't happen at low volumes ? - sounds like the preamp isn't being clipped (which is good) so it might just be the speaker can't handle the volume. Has it always done it ? If not the speaker could be damaged. And as johnnylager said - it IS always time for a new one .
No it sounds great at low volumes, have never had a problem with it. At practice I have been having to turn the volume to max and gain to about 75% though just to be heard above the drums.
 16.
It's always time get a new one!
I like your thinking...
 17. I've got a Laney RBW300 Combo (1x15) which I've recently started using at high volumes (was a practice amp but recently got a gig so started taking it to practices and will be using it tomorrow for aforemetioned giggedy..) and I've noticed that the bottom end becomes distorted and flappy at high volumes. It's a 2nd hand amp that's done a fair bit of travelling so I'm presuming that it's on it's way out. It's 165w so not exactly a bedroom practice amp so should be able to keep up.. What do you guys think.. is it time to get a new one?
 18. Has anyone or I said Rocket Queen by GNR yet??
 19. I think what's more worrying is that I know full well it'll hit my like a tonnes of bricks at some point... probably riiiiiiiiiiight before going onstage... lol!
 20. Oh Crap! It's tomorrow! The most worrying thing is that I've woken up totally calm about it.. that can't be normal???? lol!!
 21.
Get them pins out!
Hmmmm.. you may have a point
 22.
That would take the attention off you, but then again, i'm guessing you're the only girl in your band, and will get people staring at you anyway. My girlfriend gets that a lot.
Yup.... shame I haven't got cleavage to distract people from my playing!
 23.
Yeah the sound guy needs to get your levels before you all check together.
...... oh lord.
 24.
Speaking of soundchecks have a cool riff that you're confident with prepared in advance for when you do your wee solo bit. It's a good ice breaker for nerves too.
SOLO bit?
