  1. Ive had 3 Xotics and still have one of them. I really like them. I have a 5 string XJ fretless, and had a fretted 5 string XJ and XP. The only reason I sold two if them is I found Sadowsky. The XP went for a Sadowsky metroline PJ....I wanted a PJ. Xotic necks are beautiful, feel and play really well. Basses are quiet...my XJ s had HRI hum cancelling. I find the Sadowsky preamp more usable in the real world....a lot less choice of adjustment, but easier to get the tone changes I wanted. If I hadn't found Sadowsky I would still have my Xotics... excellent basses

I haven't used it in a band setting yet, but one thing I have immediately noticed is that it isn't particularly quite... even with the gain and volume each at the 9 o'clock position there is a lot of hum. When you turn them both to the 3 o'clock position the noise is extremely loud.

Did you find the same thing with your amp?

I don't have a GR amp yet, I'm using a Mesa D800 and a mesa D800+ preamp pedal with the GR speakers. I like it, but cant buy another Mesa just now due to shortages. Its quiet in terms of background noise although the fan is noticeable in the house. I was looking at the GR one 1400 as a potential 2 ohm capable backup in a small package. I haven't played one.

  3. You'll need a second cab to get the full 1400 watts. It's 2 separate amps. 2x700watts at 4 ohms. I doubt you'll need any more volume with the 4x10 though😁

I have been eyeing up the single channel one 1400....I have an AT210 and an AT112H...both 4 ohms. Would like to hear your opinion when you get to know the amp!

Just wondering whether the boom you were getting on your BB2 could have been dealt with by cutting the bass EQ on your bass or amp a touch, rather than reducing the overall volume? I can't remember now whether you've held onto your BB2 or now moved it on?

I sold my BB2, also before I got the mesa d800+ pedal with the HPF

I'd be interested to hear what it is that you like about the sound of the AT cabs compared to the Barefaced?   I did have the BB2 for a while so I'd be interested to know what the differences are.

I was always fighting with too much boom on the BB2 and being told to turn down. The At cabs have a nicer mid presence...in my opinion. The At112 is 450 watts, so the BB2 will probably go louder, i didnt get to compare them side by side. The BF One10s just didnt have enough volume before breaking up, especially the low B's Both AT210 and 112 handle the low B much better....louder and clearer without breakup. I had various BF cabs over the last 10 years, they are good and lightweight, but I'm liking the GR bass cabs better now. Very difficult to quantify exactly why, they just stand out in the mix without being overpowering and sound nice to my ears. I don't play excessively loud, I work with a big band, jazz quartet and some function bands

The UK went officially metric in 1973. However, the British are a nation of shopkeepers, of the variety that can't manage to adapt to the modern world, so it's all got stuck.

However, that's a diversion from GR Bass - I'm now thinking of selling my BF BB2 and Tecamp Puma 900, and replacing them with an AT Cube 800. Less weight, fewer items, and similar power. I'm playing pub gigs with an acoustic guitarist, keyboard player, and a percussionist on cajon and bongoes rather than a drummer, so I don't have to turn it up to full whack - I did try using a BF One10 but it seemed to be breaking up at just short of the volume I needed. Does this sound like a reasonably apples to apples swap?

I had a BB2 and sold it for 2x BFone10s. I found the one10s broke up a bit soon for my liking. I now have an AT210 and an AT112. The AT112 is same as the combo and sounds good. I haven't pushed it as far as the BB2, but it gives more clean power than the BF10s. I like the sound if the AT cabs more than the BFs. Time will tell how the Carbon cabs stand up to wear and tear, but mine are carefully carried in my own car, not thrown in the back of a van.

  7. I bought a Baby Sumo for house use and as a backup for my Mesa d800. The d800 is great and is my main gigging amp, don't hear the fan at gigs, but at home at low levels, the fan was annoying me. I use the Baby Sumo with a Mesa d800+ DI pedal, very happy with it, it's pretty loud and could easily do most of my gigs(600 watts at 4 ohms). I have 2 x 4 ohm cabs, so can only use one cab with the Sumo as min 4 ohms.

Interesting. What did you replace them with?

GR Bass AT210 and an AT112h as backup/addition for very occasional gigs, I don't play loud, mostly jazz and big band with the occasional  function band gig. The AT210 is both louder with same flattish amp settings (Mesad800+) and goes louder before breakup. It also weighs only 22lbs compared to 30lbs for the 2x BF One10's.

Edit, I'm not anti Barefaced, they are good cabs, I've had 6 in the past 10 years.

I should be able to AB the BF 110 against the GR AT 110. Will let you know as soon as I get through the dreaded lead times! How long was after ordering for you? I'm 9 days in!

Bass Direct had the 210 in stock, the 112 was an order and took a few weeks.... can't remember exactly, we were in lockdown, so there was no rush😊

With a 10" Jensen and a bullet tweeter in the box, it's unlikely to be uncoloured either. A little puzzling indeed.

My experience with the GR AT210 compared directly with my 2x BFone10's shows the GR to be both louder and cleaner before breakup. It will be interesting to see if putting one speaker in a box changes this. It is a small box (Gr110), but it is deeper than 210 by 10cm.

Wouldn’t that be fairly obvious though considering the BF 10s are deliberately coloured

Yes, retro 10's originally. I liked the one10s at medium volume, bright switch on my d800+ compensated for the lack of tweeter. Its was at high volumes the one10s started to break up before the AT210. The B string easily farted out on the one10s. I'm not bashing BF, I used them for 10 years, I just prefer the GR bass speakers just now.
