1. Has anyone reading this thread tried or bought this system from Posse Audio?

www.posseaudio.com

The option to blend in ambient sound is very appealing to me and be able to control the mix right in front of you also looks cool. I don't sing so perhaps it's an overkill solution but would be keen to know if the stuff is any good though.

2. I had a vintage MuTron and it was lovely sounding but absolutely hated any of my bases with a hot output signal. It sounded best with my jazz in passive mode but that wasn't my sound live so I moved it on. I'd be interested to know Bootsy how you find the Mu Fx version in comparison to the original - is it as good?

Yes price wise I reckon your going to always be looking at £4 - £500.

Mine was an L Sound mod which meant it ran on normal 9v power and had a decent LED in it so you can tell when it's on at a glance and he also recalibrated it do it has a broader sweep which was cool.

3. No, I had a Streamer Stage 2 and it was a 4 string but had ying yang fret markers amongst other things so suggest it was just a slightly different model. I loved that bass until some bastard smashed a window and nicked it out of my car!

35 - 95 is really light gauge strings!

Back then was a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 four string, Stage 2 fiver (the Jamiroquai bass with the blanket paint job), Stage 2 fretless (can't remember if it's on the records), Stage 1 eight string (ditto), and Alembic Essence 4. Seen him using a P back then once too. Used 35-95 strings back in the day according to interview, same as I used to use.

There were a couple of other Warwicks too towards the end IIRC, possibly one chrome five and one white five?

4. I play a lot of this kind of music and have had quite a few of the cabs and amps mentioned on here and my advice would as follows:

TC Electronic kit looks great and has some fantastic features and sounds great by itself at home but just doesn't cut through in the live sound at all - I couldn't wait to move mine on!

Barefaced - just no, it's not hi-fi at all and is not what you need for this music.

EBS - yes it's great for funk and particularly slap, the Bright dial on the amps allows you to make it as hi-fi as you like, if it's too zingy then just roll it off a little - simples. For me the cabs were a touch too much on the hi-fi side and I have now opted for older SWR cabs which are very similar to EBS but just a bit rounder.

Begantino - great cabs but do lack a bit of the top end needed for that Marcus type sound.

Aguilar - used by Jerry Barnes say no more! Not tried the newer Tone Hammers but the AG500SC was a nice amp.

Can concur that the EBS 2x12 was a monster of a cab.

5. It was definitely a Warwck Streamer on EOPE and he used a Boss multi fx board to get that awesome envelope filter and synth bass type sounds. This is one of my all time favourite albums, I remember seeing them on The Word on Friday night and buying the cassette from Our Price the very next day - I still love it as much today as I did then and it set me on a journey to discover jazz/funk that I am still on now!

6. Evening all,

Looking to purchase a little 4 channel mixer for two different applications:

1. To plug in electronic drum kit and audio source and then output through a PA to practice along with.
2. To mix my bass signal and a kick drum signal into my Porter & Davies KT platform so that I can feel both instruments when we play live.

Any advice and recommendations on what to but would be welcome.

7. Evening all,

I am looking to sell my beloved Bergantino 1x12 cabs which I bought brand new from Bass Direct about 4 years ago, they are in great condition have been gigged but always transported in their padded covers and I even have the original boxes for them too still!

The cabs are rated at 350w and are 8 ohms.

When run together they provide some serious power and the tweeter in the HT adds some lovely top end to the sound.

Please see link below for the full spec from the Bass Direct website:

http://www.bassdirec...s_speakers.html

Looking for £450 for the HT112ER and £350 for the EX112ER or £700 for the pair. Would prefer them to be sold as a pair if possible.

No trades please - need more space in the house!

8. A strong feeler to gauge interest in my 1974 Fender Jazz bass.

I bought this a few years ago from Karlfer of here and it is an absolute beauty of a jazz bass but please note it has been stripped of it's original colour at some point in it's life and is a proper player and not a museum piece to look at!

There are some dings and marks on the neck and it's been well played but it nothing out of the ordinary for a bass that is 42 years old.

It's very light for a jazz bass (9.5 Ilbs) but has a super fast neck and a tone to die for. It could probably do with a re-fret if you are very particular but to my mind it still plays beautifully.

I have changed the pre-amp for an East J-Retro Deluxe but still have the original and also the bridge pick up cover and a Fender hard case in tweed.

I love the sound from this bass, it does Marcus to a tee and the only reason that I am thinking of selling is to fund a 5 string jazz type bass as I can't play 4 strings anymore and this bass is just not getting the use that it should have.

Only trades that I would consider would be a 5 string super jazz such as Atelier Z, Lakland DJ5 or similar.

9. I spoke to Dil over at P&D and he reckons you can just run a mixer with bass and kick drum going into it and then feed into the Gigster to still achieve the same result.

I'm really tempted to go for it!

Just to note, I brought the Bc2 and KT platform. I felt the extra line in for kick drums etc was worth it.

10. I think you are right Russ, you would need serious volume to create the same effect!

Where I am coming from by looking at this is about trying to get the ulitmate enjoyment when I play live, invariably I find that so much of what I am trying to play live is lost in the mix that you end up playing straighter because you figure that no-one can actually hear what you are doing anyway! If you can feel everyrthing that you are doing then to hell with everyone else!

I never have been the biggest mover on stage, and for most function work they don't really watch the band anyway (well apart from the singer) so I don't see that as being a problem. Yes, it's another thing to carry but if you end up enjoying the gig more then it's got to be worth it.

11. Do you use it when not using in ears or is it really designed purely for that purpose?

I was looking at the Gigster but assume you can't put the kick into that which could be a pain - out of interest did you look at the Tecamp version at all?

I just have. It's ace, properly good. Brings back the low end thump when using in ears.

12. This looks very interesting - I am still to sort out my IEM solution properly and this could work for me although I don't sing so could be a little overkill.

I trialled a basic IEM set up the other week and the lack of ambient sound didn't make it a very enjoyable experience especially when people kept trying to talk to me!

13. A couple of drummer friends of mine swear by their products (the drum seat where you feel the bass drum through your body) has anyone bought the bass platform and Gigster? I tried it out at the LBGS a couple of years ago and was very impressed but it is a big investment and would be keen to know if anyone has some "real world" feedback and experience?

14. SKB 4u rack case - in reasonable condition but with a few scuff and scrapes as per the pics. These are retailing for around £170 albeit the new design of this case.

Happy to post if needs be but pick up from Cheltenham, Glos preferred if possible.

15. That is a tone to die for - yes very much like Marcus, thanks for posting those, I have been really enjoying listening to them.

Lots of people do sound like Marcus Miller when playing a Fender Jazz in that style. An example is the guy who plays on tracks the Anthony Jackson doesn't on the Lee Ritenour project Overtime - there are other examples of players as well.

IMHO you need an HH Stingray to get the ultimate slap sound - the outer H coils cop the Marcus sound - the neck H the Louis Johnson and Bernard Edwards fingerstyle, and both Hs, the Louis Johnson scooped slap sound.
