1. I would imagine this is what happens when a band shoots to fame too quickly without decent management. Sacking the person in the band that got them the most interest seems a very odd thing to do so early in their career. I remember wanting my hair like Limahl the first time I saw him.
Very interesting to watch though and agree that they all seem very likeable guys.

2. +1 on the Vintage V4. I picked one up for £70 off ebay and it plays very nice.

The EB3 is a full scale neck but be aware of neck dive. When you stand and play the neck will automatically dive to the floor unless you hold it, or use a wider strap. Not the ideal situation you want when just learning

3. I dont think you need to worry about amps and cabs but a cheaper bass for those sort of enviroments maybe a good idea. Over the years Ive had a few people try and grab my bass or go over and pick it up while we are having a break. Fortunately now my band only plays once a month we just pick and choose what gigs we want and would never play at a place where this could happen.
My Vintage V4 is a cracking bass that only cost me £70 off ebay so would be a good cheap option to take

I had all sorts of weird typing problems - underscored or italic, no return, had to use the editing thingy in the corner to format the text. I also had problems navigating the site - had to go via links rather than just back, as it would only go one or two clicks back before freezing. Yesterday I changed browser from IE to Chrome and all the problems have finished.

Same here. All my problems on BC I had were when I used IE. I now use Firefox and everything is fine

5. There are dozens of venues round here that fall into your 50-150 capacity.

They tend to fall into two categories -
Basic pubs that host live music stick you in a corner (small stage if youre lucky) pay around £200 regardless of how many they get in and there is no PA, backline or lighting.
Then there is the larger venue that provide PA and lighting but very rarely any backline. These normally give you a portion of the ticket money. They also usually only give you a portiion of the ticket sales from the people who have come to see your band if there is a few bands on same night. (They just ask each punter who they have come to see).

once you've all figured out where all the stops are
I am in charge of stops in our band. Nobody stops unless i lift the neck of my bass up. We have the same problem with Town Called Malice. Our drummer would always stop for the bass solo end of second verse instead of after the M8, resulting in the song only lasting about a minute and a half!!

7. Most places would expect 2 x 45 as standard if you are the only act on

Sometimes landlords can be a bit demanding though so always best to confirm first.
We have a gig this Saturday and I have confirmed we do 2 x 45 mins plus about 10 mins of encores. The landlord said that's fine as long as we start at 9pm and finish at 12.30!!! That's one huge break in the middle

He is left handed but strangely plays golf, cricket etc Right handed. He has picked up both my bass and my 6 string (Right handed) and said they feel weird, so we assumed he needs left handed guitar. However at a recent shop visit he picked up a left handed and said that felt odd too. He pursued and bought the left handed guitar and he is struggling with the strumming technique. I switched him back to my Right hand and he has the same problem.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what tips are there to determine what side you play. Or is it just a fact I have a very weird brother!!!

Taken from a post i replied to yesterday

I tried out several fenders yesterday in my local music shop, I ran out of time before i got to the jaguar bass to try so I need to get back there and try it

BUT I did try out the modern player jazz bass which is made in china and it was really good.
My findings on what i tried yesterday:

Fender usa deluxe jass bass - natural finish £1500 ish: playability=awesome 10/10 sound / tone = awesome 10/10
Fender MIM jazz bass - sunburst £650 ish: playability = average 6/10 sound / tone = average 7/10
Fender modern player jazz bass - sunburst £400 ish : playability good 8/10 sound / tone = very good 8.5/10
Squier VM jazz bass - natural £250 ish : playability very good 9/10 sound / tone = average 7/10

These are just my humble opinion based on me paying hard cash for one of the above. I wish i could justify the £1500 for the deluxe bass but that isnt going to happen this year
disapointed with the MIM bass just not as good as either the modern player or squier
I wish the modern player played a bit better as the squier

still undecided!!

I adore my Modern Player. I picked up a bargain at PMT as I had the last one of the stock without the pick up selector which I prefer anyway. I prefer to use the volume controls on each pickup rather than have a switch. Only cost me £320 brand new

I think this is great, regardless of them being 17. I love to see/hear youngsters being creative and to a good standard. I know there's loads more technology for them than when I was a kid, but this is good playing and a mature arrangement.

Thanks for the feedback. Although I am obviously biast, I do think they have something good going on and am trying to get this video played where ever possible. I taught him to play guitar too when he was 10.

11. This is my Nephews band (Hes the singer). Not bad at all for 17 year olds
Wasnt sure about the Gorilla theme but now quite like it and in fairness even if you don't like it you will remember it.

Song is really good and was recorded at Rich Bitch In Birmingham
