  1. A couple of judicious hyphens in the title (Cash-in-hand) would clear up what seems to be an advert for free services LOL.But in my part of the country (N.I.) cash in hand is all I've ever known.Save for a few hoity-toity Golf Clubs who insist in paying by cheque, and one Health Trust who maintained that paying the band be included in the end of the month expense sheet.ie we didn't get paid till the end of the month. All our pub gigs are cash-in-hand as are weddings.Never had a problem.

  2. Don't know how many of you know who Mike Masse is,but check him out on youtube.Basically hes a guy with a great voice and a nice acoustic guitar who duets with a bass player and they do acoustic/bass versions of many great songs.
Well me and our guitarist do a similar thing though not quite the same calibre as Mike.Last night we were doing our version of 'Africa' by Toto,(again, inspired by Mike Masse) when,in the chorus, where me and Paul, the guitarist, launch into a strong 2-piece harmony,a guy in the crowd stood up and launched into a 3rd harmony, and continued to do so throughout the song.We play quietly usually,so the guy didnt really need a mike.Suffice to say,its always good when somebody in the crowd reacts to what you're doing in a positive way.

  3. It certainly does look a bit hefty right enough, but it's very deep so I can imagine its quite loud acoustically. But where is the sound hole?

PS So thats James Blennerhasset? Heard of him many times in Irish folk music, but never actually set eyes on him before.

  4. Just watching an acoustic session featuring Frances Black on Irish channel TG4.The bassist is using what seems to a carbon fibre single cut electro acoustic bass.Looks quite nice.Anyone seen one before.Excuse the pic.

  5. I've read the book several times and it still unsettles me,as I was an stargazer for many years, and had looked at Mars many times through my 'scope and often wondered how I would feel if,one night,I saw some jets of flame shooting outwards from it.On the album, the futility in David Essex's voice when he suggests a 'brave new world' underground, while scrabbling at the ground with his bare hands, suggests that insanity had overtaken him.Great book, great album.

  6. Thats a neat touch, having the 'controls' section of the scratchplate separate from the rest of it.Saves taking the whole s/plate off just to get at the electrics.I likes that! Nice bass,by the way.

I used to get severe leg cramps in the night which would wake me but i would be unable to move ,and although the pain would gradually subside
i would be left with some pain all the next day
I was told by my doctor at the time that it was nothing to do with my varicose veins and related problems
however after i had op to strip veins in both legs the cramps disappeared ,i am careful however not to stretch my legs on waking as
that would often bring cramps on .

+1 with the stretching Tim.I suppose the only saving grace is that the pain will subside eventually, and relief will come, but like yourself,I daren't stretch in bed at all.I very rarely get it in one leg only, usually come son both legs at the same time. How the hell does that work,I've often wondered.

  8. Painkillers just before bed were recommended to me as well, but I might as well have taken Smarties, for all the use they were.We dont gig a great deal, perhaps 4-5 times a month, and we dont have roadies or any suchlike luxuries. So, in my case a nights gigging involves:
    1-Load up car with gear.
    2-Drive to gig.
3-Unload car (with a little help)
    4-Play gig,usually 2 hours straight.
    5- break down gear
    6-Reload car
    7-Drive home
    8-Collapse in heap.
All these things combined take their toll on someone of my age and fitness, and sometimes I'm tempted to pack it all in,But dammit,I still love gigging.

    PS Coilte,when I get a 1/2 hour to myself,I'll watch that clip.
