  1. It does look weird I admit. On mine I have a chrome cover on the neck pup so from a distance it looks like a 5 string P bass with an extra Jazz pup mounted at the bridge,as per the pic.I also installed an Artec 2-band preamp in mine and I use it all the time now. After a god setup she sounds great and plays even better although that neck is w-i-d-e.I would recommend these basses to anyone and if you can get this one sorta cheap, give it a good setup, check out the pups ( they may be basic 4-pole Jazz pups and therefore useless for a wide 5 string) then go for it..Tell them to forget about strings. They're personal.

  2. Squier5, sorry that I don't know everything and have upset you by asking such an obvious question.

 .Y'know Si600 sometimes when I read back over some of my posts I think to myself 'you pompous tw4t!' I apologise for coming over as such.I think it was the night I had 3 screaming grandkids for a sleepover. As you can probably tell from my name,I use one of the aforementioned basses all the time and love it,although a previous one that I had was equipped with 4-pole Jazz pups which were next to useless. There have been numerous threads on the forum about these however, and odd as they look, they're not really that uncommon. ;)

I think the transpose button has been pressed on his tuner. He needs to read the instructions, and reset it, or buy another tuner.

He has been playing guitar for as long as I can remember and knows how to use a tuner.Besides if the Transpose button had been pressed, the other guitars would not have showed normal tuning.

  4. Intonation was my first thought also, and his.But hes an experienced guitarist and we ruled this out, because we were tuning using open strings as you normally do when using an electronic tuner. With the SG the 1st (E) was shown to be at concert,IE needle centred,2 green lights.Using the LP Junior, the 1st showed needle centred,2 green lights, but this string was audibly a semitone higher than the SG.Weird or what?

  5. Last night my band (and I) were doing a pub gig,as you do,and we were just about to start when our guitarist noticed that he didn't seem to be in tune with the rest of us.In fact his guitar ( Epiphone Les Paul Junior) was a semitone above the rest of us.
    Now heres the scenario:
His guitar, through his tuner showed him to be perfectly tuned to concert. His other guitar (Gibson SG) through the same tuner, also showed perfect concert pitch, although one was audibly a semitone above the other.Other guitarist's Strat, through the same tuner showed it to be at concert. How can one guitar show such a marked discrepancy? This led to some severe head scratching at the end of the night.
I think personally that the LP Junior is at fault, but cant for the life of me think how.Any ideas?

  6. But did anybody think, like I did that there was absolutely NO rapport between him, the 2 guitarists and Wix Wickens?Apart from 1 'almost' back to back with the lead player. As I said in my OP,Abe Laboriel got most of his attention, and if I'm not mistaken, seemed to be giving him a hand with his vocals by singing in unison with him.Between watching his hands AND his autocue, maybe he forgot to acknowledge the other 3.But hey, fair play to him for still going out and doing it at his age.Would have liked to be there.

  7. Anybody watch this last night (BBC4)? I dont know how to put it but I think Pauls age is starting to affect his voice, but only in the lower register. While he still can scream like he used to,his lower register is decidedly below par IMHO.His bass work is still amazing although I noticed that he 'watched' his fingering hand an awful lot.Dont know if this is a subconscious thing,or if he's just being careful. He also didn't seem to have much rapport with his other 2 guitarists, nor they with him,if I'm honest, although Abe Laboriel got most of his attention.
Still, he's still my main man and played a blinder (Mr Kite, amazing bassline). Interesting too that immediately after this programme was a doc. on his 'Wings over America' tour,The sound and musicianship of which I actually preferred.

It looks like a bit of driftwood.

Thats exactly what it (and all the other) Wishbasses look like.I think that this guy's got it made as these have become a sort of 'cult' bass to own.I believe there's a sort of club in existence on Talkbass.Me,personally wouldn't be seen dead with one.

  9. I know Wishbass are famous for their quirky looking basses, and each to their own,I guess, but I can not begin to imagine how this baby would feel round you neck. It's weird.

Is this an electro acoustic,or an acoustic/electric?

  11. Charlie has an odd drumming style. He tends to miss hitting the hi-hat every time he hits the snare. He reminded me of the old guy in the Wonga adverts that dives into the paddling pool.He is a steady drummer though, very few fills.Wasn't overly impressed with the overall telly coverage though. But I guess,'you had to be there'.

  12. Read in the i paper this morning.Liam Gallagher 'does not wish to be took (sic) as a serious musician'.Quote "I take that as a f***ing insult"This comes after he was seen riding a dog round a pub, claiming "its what rock stars do!" Don't worry Liam, after seeing you on Jools with your parka, shades and other Oasis-type poses, I wont insult other serious musicians by lumping you in with them.Oh,unless you call banging a tambourine 'serious' musicianship.
The thing is though,I actually liked BDI's music on Jools. It's just Gallagher and his time warp attitude that I cant stand.Move on mate.
