What's so unreasonable about him? Seems sensible to me.
Because if you want to sell something for that much money, I would think it would be reasonable to post a photo or 2 and a description. Instead you just get a load of restrictions. -
Sadly I will be on the train, so unable to help out Mr Foxen unfortunately
-
Ahh. Was it your band that came to the Gloucester Guildhall last year or so, I wanted to come but was sadly working. If you are this way again, I will definitely come

Are you in Nearly Dan Pete?

Cheers pete, certainly cheaper than warmoth! Although I'm not sure i have the confidence to try.... 150 quid is a lot to blow if I get it wrong!!!
Maybe a lot of work, but if you haven`t got the confidence to try on an expensive bit of wood, couldn`t you get a cheap wood to practice on, and use as a template for the real thing? -
Apart from advancements in tuition etc, has there been an innovation to make learning and playing a bass easier from the first basses ?

Tell her it was a bargain at £100

Calling lefties coming to the bash (Throwoff, Timmo) -
I think it would be a bit of a cheek to call myself a lefty as I was right handed until last Thursday when I got my left hand bass. I was hoping one of you could play my bass so I actually knew what it should sound like -
[sup]I had a quick go on the lefty bass at Bass Direct. I am no expert, but it seemed nicely weighted. It has an assymetric neck if you like that sort of thing[/sup]
I rang for a strap yesterday as he didn`t try to push one onto me last week. I rang him up, asked me how I was getting on with the new bass, recommended a comfort strapp. Had a good chat with him. He apologised that he never gave me as much attention that he would've liked, as he was busy, which was true. I was glad he wasn`t there as it was a sorry performance I was having. Bought the strap over the phone at around 1pm yesterday, and it was waiting for me when I got home tonight.
I am hearing a lot about the M25 problems. Was it anything in particular causing it, or is it just a typical Saturday?

Don`t know why but I can`t seem to stop playing Airport by The Motors
-
Yeah, that`s a nice looking bass. I like the pick guard, it seems to suit the colour and shape

I think Mark is a good guy. I'll still shop at BassDirect.
I don't think this kind of thread is the best use of Basschat.
Off to find a positive thread now.
bye
RK
I think this is a positive thread. If you look at Tripadvisor and see 50 excellent stars down to 2 terrible, you would look at the negatives and think they are unlucky and go with the positives which would probably give Bass Direct 4 and a half stars. I think that is very positive as most people would go there. It is the same here, I look at the negatives, weigh it up, think they have been unlucky, and use the shop as the positives outweigh the negatives. -

In my experience, not all straps will accommodate strap locks without modification.
I spent a couple of quid on a cheap set of leather punches off the bay.
Now I can buy any strap knowing I'll be able to punch the correct size holes for strap locks through it without it bunching up the leather.
Thanks for that. I will look for straplock straps and I should be ok. The stupid thing is, I have looked at loads as I forgot about buying one when I bought the bass. You can spend 3 or 4 figures on a bass then baulk at the price of a £50 strap. -
First impressions are always important. I can see why people are put off if they have a bad experience. I sort of know why people could get the wrong impression with him though. When he was telling me about his stock and got to Roscoes, I said I would like one but too expensive for me, he did say that it was cheap, and he looked as if i was wasting his time as I didn`t have that kind of money. I guess he has a lot of people just trying out his basses and walking out and buying from the internet. However, I knew which basses I wanted to try so I told him , and he was very helpful after that. £1200 is a lot of money for me to be spending on a bass when I am only learning. I know he isn't a charity, but I think specialised shops should be supported as much as possible as there are not many, and would be a shame to lose them. But I can also respect people for going elsewhere if they have had a bad experience

My bass teacher told me that Peter Hook was one of his main inspirations.
Ahh, I knew he must have inspired someone. As no one had mentioned him I thought I must be totally wrong. -
OK thank you. I thought that might be the case, but I was looking at straps and found some were being marketed as bass straps, so I thought I better check before I dive in. Oops sorry, in put this post in the wrong section
-
Maybe a stupid question, but is there any difference between a guitar strap and a bass strap? Also, will any strap fit strap locks, or do you need a specific type?
-
No idea if he was a good bassist, but I would imagine Peter Hook from Joy Division and later New Order must have inspired somebody.

I went in with no appointment. I was the only one in there so maybe I was lucky. All the left hand basses were upstairs so I asked to see the Clover, which he bought down. He plugged me in, went into his office and left me too it. A few words of advice after I asked him to look at an MTD, he let me play it and I settled on the Clover, and after a small chat after, it all went well. He held the door open for me as I was leaving and he said to come back when it settles down if I wanted for him to make sure it was ok. I would go back, but maybe I would make an appointment first, because to be fair, it does say to call for an appointment if you would like a demo on his website.

well, you get the picture - recommended, but take a fat wallet if you can!
Yeah, I didn`t want to spend as much as I did, but it is for a good cause. Never seen so many basses in one place. -
If he asked. then no. http://youtu.be/9DbUPjEbIvA

A quick question please. I understand It will cost £10 entrance fee. Is there anything else I need money for? Is there refreshments for sale, or is it best to bring myself some sandwiches and drink? I assume Hamster will have tea and biscuits for sale looking at the list.
