I had a band practice last night and managed to put it through it’s paces a bit.
I play in a stoner rock band and use it with quite a lot of gain. I was running it with a G&L SB-2 into an Ampeg SVT-CL. The high output of the MFD pickup wasn’t an issue for the pedal.
The distortion I’ve got set up to where I want it and it is wonderful. Cuts through without impeding, I keep the clean blend on at all times.
I still need to tweak the fuzz side a little bit but it’s in the ball park. I think I need to bump the middle a bit but it sounds very thick and muff like.
The two together work well and really create a good mix.
The only downside I have found is I am struggling to press individual buttons on the fly, mostly down to how close it is to the next pedal in my board. Some of it will be me getting used to the proximity of each switch but had a few times where I didn’t turn it on. The main struggle is the right switch as its close to my wah pedal. Damn these size 11 feet! I’m going to see if putting some switch toppers on it helps me with this but I may need to just be a bit more precise with my feet of give the pedal a bit more room.

Yeah I currently have a Tarkin 66 which is a grand Tarkin and knightfall 66 ina single enclosure. I’ll need to do a direct comparison when I get a chance to run them side by side but a few things I’ve already noticed.
I like the fact the barefaced machinist can run both together. I can’t do that with my cog it’s either fuzz or distortion.
It seemed easier for me to dial in the distortion to a setting I liked compared to the knightfall. I may have just fluked it thought ha!
the only down side I can find so far is I prefer the top mounted jacks on the cog.

Mine arrived today too. I have only managed to play it through my practice set up with headphones.
first thoughts are that it’s great. I could get easily great sounds out of both sides and they work well together.
I think it will end up overtaking my cog as my go to pedal. I can’t make a full decision until I hear it with the whole band, I have a practice this week so will update then.

I’ve ordered one. Taking a chance on it but seeing as it has the 1 month return policy. I don’t see it as a big risk.
Im thinking it’ll knock the cog Tarkin 66 off my pedalboard. Once it arrives and I’ve had a play I’ll chuck up a review.

I’m looking forward to hearing some demos of this pedal. I currently have a cog Tarkin and knightfall In one pedal but only have the ability to switch between the two not have both on.
The parallel idea really grabs me, and I like stacking dirt pedals. I’m watching this with interest and wondering if it might knock my Tarkin 66 off the board.
As @Salt on your Bass? asked. What are the two drives in this based on?

Hasn't it got loads of different compressors in it you can change?
It has and I tried many out, every time I put one on unless it was very transparent I didn’t like it. I just don’t think compressors are for me!

I wouldn’t necessarily say wiser lol
unfortunately I did buy it new but I did sell it on for not a massive loss

Best purchase this year for me has to be G&L SB-2, which was one of those “that’s the tone i have in my head” moments to the point where I replaced the pickups in my bitsa to MFDs too.
Worst purchase for me was probably a tc Spectracomp. Mostly because after using it I realised I didn’t need a compressor (or I’m not clever enough to hear the worth) and I ended up dialling it back further and further until there wasn’t a difference between on and off.

Still For Sale!

In regards to the pickup cover, I thought it was a bit odd to put it on seeing as when the bass was played in the hot chocolate video they showed, it didn’t have one on. I would have kept it the same as how it looked then.

For sale is an SFX Microfuzz bought off here in July. It’s a great tiny fuzz pedal. One of the earlier ones. I haven’t had much time to use it with current situations and I am not using much equipment at the moment. It has Velcro on the the back of it.
I bought it for £50 so I’m selling for the same with free postage.

I’m currently using kallium strings on my basses tuned to cgcf. I use a .124, .082, .061 and .045 set though but I’m sure they’ll have the string sizes you want and I find them to be great sounding. Before using these I was using rotosounds before.
if you really want rotosounds go on stringsdirect and you can order singles. I think they do .115 on there and make your own custom set out of singles.

i did have a search about for something that would let me max my SVT to get a bit of grind going but i couldn't find anything, so i am now considering a vb4 instead and slightly worried if it would be loud enough especially through a Barefaced two10. i can see me getting one and then another two10 cab.

Interesting question and I’m sure a lot of people will have a better idea than me but I have always seen sustain as a by product of quality craftsmanship.
I couldn’t give two hoots over how long a bass sustains for but I have noticed the better put together basses seems to acoustically sustain more or so it seems.

If you go to click Activity and go to unread content sub heading. On the drop down menu for content type select topics and click the little gear symbol next to it and it says narrow by forums. On this you should be able to choose which sections of the forum you want to see.

Thanks for suggesting this, I've never heard of it before but after having a Google it seems to be pretty positively reviewed. Definitely a strong option! Have you tried it yourself? I've heard some preamps sound nicer with some pickups than others (similar frequency responses or something, I'm not 100% sure on the technical details), so do you have any recommendations for pickups specific to this preamp? If I were to go for e.g. the Seymour Duncan pickup, would it be safer to go for the Duncan preamp than this one? Thanks!
Yes i have used this one myself, i actually swapped out the 3 band preamp in a musicman stingray to one f these and much preferred it. It is just a copy of an original 2 band. So any pickups that would be recommended for a 2 band stingray would be fine. I would probably go for a Seymour Duncan SMB-4A which they say is voiced on the 70s musicman pickup with that preamp which would have been what the stingrays would have had back then.

I’ve taken this out of my bitsa bass. I bought this new about 5 years ago. It hasn’t been soldered as it was used with a Kiogon wireless loom. So the leads are the original length. I’ve measured it to 11.07K which is a little bit above the fender spec of 10.5k.
There’s a few marks on the casing but only light scratches, I don’t have the original box. free postage on this.
