  1. I sometimes find it difficult to pick up the bass. My preferred option is to buy something new. nothing gets me wanting to play more than having a new bass, amp or even effect. although that can be costly so sometimes it's just a case of waiting until the mood strikes to pick it up again. i find forcing myself to play tends to leave me more deflated and less likely to enjoy it.

An enjoyable gig or a moment of inspiration usually reminds me why i love the bass so much

  2. Yes i've done this. Bought a rickenbacker clone with the correct scale length of 33.25 inches. I played it for a few months as my main bass, swapped it out for my precision and the precision felt wierd. took a little adjustment but used to playing boh now.

  3. I used to have a dedicated bag but now have managed to cram it into my bass bag. I take:

    • spare microhead
    • spare kettle lead + speakon + intstrument lead + patch cable
    • Tuner
    • plasters
    • super glue
    • tape
    • paracetamol
    • gaviscon
    • Multitool leatherman
    • multiheaded screwdriver (has allen key, phillips, flat, etc)
    • amp fuses

I think thats about it i try and take a spare bass if i have room

  4. That’s true. To be honest if I was goi g down the route of getting his sound id just try and get what he was using. I think the idea of a pedal that can give a good approximation of a few different players would be handy. Although if you were to use it in a cover band it would be handy to have presets to scroll through

  5. I doubt that will be the street price and if it is, it may struggle to sell. I do like the idea of it and the other players sounds it has makes it seem more intriguing.

Probably want it for the Geezer element but then again i don't think i would use it.

I didn't think much to be honest, I thought Pike looked a bit, put out, at times. I'm glad I went but I wouldn't go to see them again.

High On Fire on the other hand, I'd go every time.

I saw them in London on Friday night. Stood back near the sound desk and the sound was balanced and the playing was great. Al was an absolute beast

That looks ace!  I have a two10 in need of a bigger head, but I use mine in portrait orientation.  This looks the business though.  SVTs are 300 watts?  So you can go full tilt with this set up?

Yes 300 watts and yes can go full tilt through it. 4 ohm switch on cab and the svt is 2 or 4 ohm

  8. Just got a new black grill for my Barefaced two10 to match the Ampeg. This is the little set up. The big one is a six10.

Im tempted to add the two together just for fun.. although I doubt I can lift the head that high!

  9. I'll chime in to say that I use mine as a back up to my SVT -CL. I use it with a VT bass to simulate the sound of the SVT and it gets pretty close. I always have this fear that my SVT will fail at some point after it did the first time i used it. The BH500 works well, it's light wait (so i don't have to carry the valve amp) and is small enough to fit in the front pocket of my gig bag.

No realiability issues yet and i've never used the "thrust" feature.

  10. Interesting to hear about the capacitor on them. I might have to add a push pull pot to mine to swap between a 0.1 and standard cap. Probably never use it but I can’t help but modify and change my basses! Ha

  11. usual gig goes:

    • Check over equipment at home
    • Pack it all up ready to go
    • check everything is packed (especially strap, leads etc)
    • Put into my own car or if i'm catching a lift theres.
    • Have an energy drink/ Coffee on the way down (usually tired from work)
    • Get to venue unload and find out whats going on
    • Depending on the gig (if its my own band or working as a backing musician) grab a beer or two. never more than 2 before is my rule (or one if it's not my own band)
    • Soundcheck if there is one
    • find some food, if theres time
    • Warm up hands, i find i sometimes get cramps in them on the occassions i don't
    • Play gig
    • pack down as fast as possible (i really hate bands that slowly pack down on stage whilst congratulating themselves when theres a band waiting to go on.)
    • Watch other band if not on last
    • Pack car, Do a Check of the room to make sure havent forgotten anything
    • Drink energy drink on way home, if driving and knackered, find food on way home if not eaten
    • Stay awake for 3 hours after getting in due to some wierd adrenaline thing

  12. Part of me wishes i went for the bareknuckles but i got a good deal on a quarter pounder which so far has been fine. i'll probably swap it out at some point as i can't help but tinker with things.

And to answer your question "when does it end?" = Never

  13.

I bought one of these a while ago and did a refinish on it. As others have said the electronics let it down a bit but pretty easy to install different pickups and wiring.

I was quite amazed at how great they are, not just for the price but in general. It's now one of my go to basses. Difficult to describe how it sounds but seems to work in every application that i've tried it in.

hopefully you'll have the same experience i did. looking forward to hearing what you think to it.

  14. I used to run two Super Compacts and now i run either a six10 or two10 depending on the situation. the 12 inch cabs have a flat response and what you put in is what you get out. Where as the 10s are Coloured and have a tone to them.

I changed to the 10s becuase when i changed amp to an Ampeg, i wanted that vintage rock sound. i found it harder to get it out of the super compact.

personally i found the 12s quite "sterile" which is in no way a bad thing and sort of hifi sound, the 10s more old school

    hope that helps!
