  1. +1 to the generally held view that it is largely mass produced and (expecting fully to be shot down) characterless to lovers of more serious music. Metal to me seems more about hair, tapping and selling albums than about expressing music beliefs.
Awaits barrage of abuse from 14 year old headbangers.............

  2. Clearly a lot depends on the player's level. It would certainly take me a long time to discern any difference between models, and for me it would simply be a case of personal preference. Subtle differences in tone and action would probably be lost on me. I'm sure I could tell you which one I preferred but probably couldn't say why.
I'd probably be scared to play a £2000 bass, and that would affect my playing anyway.

  3. Not ALL eBayers are crooks EU. There are still some bargains out there. The fact that your seller only had one feedback probably explains it, but we all have had only one feedback at sometime. You are collecting and paying cash, so if it isn't up to scratch, and not as described reject it. A "new" ebayer won't argue the toss anyway. An old seasoned scammer with a new identity might tho.
Good luck. i hope it's everything you hoped for.

  4. Soooo (that should upset a few people) I'm a born again. Been playing fingerstyle and after lots of playing last week my RH finger (lost the top of my index when I was a lad, so I pluck with my 2nd, is sore as hell today, so borrowed a 2mm big stubby from the guitarist and what a revelation. After you get used to holding it, piece of cake.
    Goodbye blisters.............

  5. Attended a local Country Music Festival with my band having been promised a slot even tho' I knew all the slots had bands booked into them. Was asked by the organiser if I'd sit in with another scratch band for a few songs between acts, and when I expressed concern that I might not know the songs he said not to worry he'd play himself ad he's a bass player. When the time came he told me I'm on after all and I didn't have time to worry, just got my bass out and went on stage. Did 6 or 7 oldies, Chuck Berry type standards and at the end the drummer and the lead guitarist both asked for my phone number. I knew that aftershave was good...........
    Rather chuffed.

  6. I bought a cheap Stagg fretless from ebay earlier this year just to see how I got on without frets (and rather liked it). I have another bass with Fender flats on, but the Stagg has very smooth flats on, and I'd like some help to identify the make please.
So: much smoother than Fender flats, and wound at the tuner end in black silk. Sorry it's not a lot of info, but any guesses would be welcome.

    Ta in advance

  7. I bought Zazu on CD and still have it. Bought exactly because of the Steely Dan input. I went right off it though when I found out that she uses made up words. Dunno why but it turned me right off.
We could of course mention China Crisis with the Becker link, not aware that they used made up words.

Seems to be par for the course in my experience. As for your regular drummer not being able to make the rehearsal. Does not the rehearsal room supply the drum kit, and he brings his snare and cymbals ? If so could you all not arrange to collect him and his gear and give him a lift to the rehearsal ? (assuming at least one of you owns a car).

I'm sure we could offer that, but then he'd have to think of another excuse!!!
