Has anyone ever taken the neck off (bolt on necks obv) and travelled like that? Asking for a friend...

I’ve flown to the Isle of Man a couple of times for gigs (guitar gigs) and just took my Telecaster in my carry on bag with the neck removed. Quickly assembled and strung up on arrival at the venue.

A 73 precision was listed on eBay a few days back ,and I messaged the seller  asking for a few more pics , while I looked at the pictures someone bought it, you gotta be quick on the button these days

Was that the one at £2299 buy it now? I’m not surprised it went fast! There is another on eBay, but that’s £4k.

  3. Hi chaps,

I have "acquired" an acoustic bass in need of some TLC. The neck is rather banana like, the pre-amp is shot and the bridge is lifting off the body.

The plan is to ditch the electronics for the time being, adjust the truss rod, and remove and reglue the bridge (I've bought a deep throated clamp for the purpose.....ooo err)

I can actually play the thing to an extent, bearing in mind the above description, the main problem being the higher than desirable action.

So, assuming I find my "round tuit", what flats would you recommend for acoustic bass?

    Cheers,

    Rob

PS: I'll try to post some progress pics in the relevant section as I go.

  4. I’m new to bass, having only picked it up late last year. What I do know is that sticking Vulfpeck on YouTube, through my TV and hifi, and jamming along in the lounge is probably the most fun I’ve had with my clothes on for a while.

Sure, I can’t play like JD, but…….. I can do my own thing alongside, and it makes me grin ear to ear.

    Just sayin.

  5. On reflection, I’d buy it and play it if the price reflected the butchery. It looks like the mods have been reversed bar the routing with a blunt spoon, and it’s all covered up by the guard. I doubt the tone is affected at all. Any repair attempt would make things worse, as it would need a refinish afterwards, and it would be pointless to rout the channels clean and refill with suitable wood without a refin.

What’s the asking price, just out of interest?

edit: Is that the original guard? The routs underneath suggest a switch was added.

  6. As some know, I’m relatively new to playing bass, however I do know how to set up my own guitars, having played electric for many years. This thread has had me rushing off to measure mine too!

At the 12th fret, my 1973 Precision is currently 1.5mm under the E string and 2mm under the G. I’d like it lower on the G, but I’d need a fret dress first as it would choke notes from about fret 15 upwards if it was lower. (Frets are original and don’t look to have ever been dressed)

I’ve visited the setup on this bass about three or four times. It’s all a balance of truss rod and saddles, and nut too if that’s an issue. I have the very tiniest relief in the neck, barely there, but it is.

When I changed to Thomastik flats from Picato had had to start again! Way less tension in the Thomastiks and I had to back off the truss rod a quarter turn before I could make any refinements.

I don't think they've even set the prices yet! I keep asking them on all their social media but never get an answer.

When they do, be prepared to be overjoyed, or deflated. It'll be one or the other.

Fortunately, Promenade Music stock a lot of their stuff and it's 15 minutes walk from me, so I'll be there as soon as they have them in regardless.

I have a 71 Jazz that I bought from Si off here and its Collector Grade 10/10....looks like its just come out of the factory.

I play it at most giggs and its an absolute joy to play.....like I said they were built to be played.

I'd sell a testicle to own that one. Beautiful.

  9. With the (now) older cabs like mine, the corners allow stacking in any orientation. Looking at the new 102 Energy cab (the one I'm interested in), it looks like it will only stack horizontally, so the option of creating a 4x10 column has vanished. Ho hum.
