1. No worries Chris. It's definitely what you'd call a 'Rolls Royce' case. Any more questions please ask
2. Sorry, the link! http://www.davidgage.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=35
3. It's definitely big! Here's a link to the the David Gage website where all the spec info is. There's a diagram with all the dimensions and weights etc. From measuring it I deduced it's the 7/8 sized one and is the regular weight making it 60 lbs. When I used it I had a 3/4 bass which fitted with room to spare, but the inflatable padding held it in place no problem. If you need any more info or pictures give me a shout! Shaun
4. I've never used it on a roof rack to be honest! But it is pretty heavy duty to say the least. In terms of the internal padding, it has plastic inflatable cushions like swimming armbands that you just blow up to fit round your bass. Ingenious eh?
5. Hi Paul, No problem mate. If you want to come and check it out or put your teacher in touch with me feel free and I'll happily answer any questions you have. There is a very worn soft case with it that doesn't have any padding. It's certainly not the greatest case but it's better than nothing! All the best, Shaun
6. Hey Paul, Sorry for slow reply. Not been on here for a bit. Yes it's still for sale mate Cheers
7. No probs! I know he's anticipating finishing a couple of his solo basses in April so you'll be spoilt for choice!
8. Hi, I know Paul's got one completed at his workshop and is in the process of finishing off another couple as I have been there recently. I'd get on his website and drop him a line. He's a really friendly helpful guy. Cheers, Shaun
9. Yeah Kate you're welcome to come and try it. Just message me to arrange a time that suits. Let's see if we can help you get nearer to finding something you want. I'm happy to advise and help in any case. Ok Pete no worries I'll keep you posted on progress.
10. Depends how far button moon is from Sheffield Pete. I agree with what TPJ said. It's wise to try out a few to see which one 'speaks' to you. I tried out loads before settled on the one I just got. If you want to come and try it out just let me know and I'd be happy to offer any help and advice anyway. Cheers, Shaun
11. Hi Stingray Pete, No it's not got an ebony fingerboard. I'm not sure what it's made of though. It's hard to see on the picture I put up, but it's painted and in some places this paint has worn away. I can send you more pictures if that would help? Cheers, Shaun
12. For Sale - German ply 3/4 bass - £500 Here's my German made ply 3/4 size double bass. I bought it for £700 second-hand in 2000 and it has accompanied on many musical adventures since then! I'm sad to sell, but regrettably she has to go to fund a more extravagant replacement. There's a few cosmetic knocks due to a lot of use and mileage. I've tried to show these in the pictures. It does however, sound as good as it did when I got it and has proved to be very robust and reliable. For what it is and for its value it's a decent enough instrument. I believe the asking price fairly reflects these cosmetic knocks. It has an adjustable bridge and the action is set fairly low to play jazz etc. the bass is easy to play and has a set of Thomastik Spirocore Mittels on. I hope the attached pictures give a good idea of what it's like - If you're interested I do have more, so please feel free to ask. Also if you want to come and try it out that would also be cool. All the best, Shaun
13. *** NOW SOLD!!! *** - David Gage Double Bass Flight Case £1000 ono This is a 'Rolls-Royce' flight case, built by a well known manufacturer, built to last and providing excellent protection. They come in 2 sizes, 3/4 and 7/8. This is the larger one, and as such retails at $3050 if purchased new from David Gage, which is about £2000 not including the considerable shipping and import costs. It has obviously been put to good use as it has a few scuffs and a visible bash (which I have photographed), but is still as effective in protecting a bass nonetheless. There is plenty of info about these cases on the David Gage site at http://www.davidgage...?products_id=35 This includes all the info about interior and exterior measurements and weight etc. If you're interested and need any more pictures or info please get in touch. Shaun
14. Thanks for all your input guys! I think I'm going to check it out. Sounds like a winner
15. Cheers guys. Thanks for taking the time to help with your opinions. I've had a look around for info too and it's true a lot of people have only good things to say about them.
16. I'm in the market for a bass at that sort of price. I don't know anything about this make of bass other than it's a UK luthier. Could anyone comment on how a bass like this would compare to old basses of a similar price? Like a 1900 German bass for instance? Any info and insight would be gratefully received as I don't consider myself to be tremendously knowledgeable!
