You could well be right and he is a builder as well as a re-fin expert, it's just that I've only ever encountered his name in connection with sprays and vintage restoration (his reputation is enormous!) I've not really tried too hard with respect to contact - I think I know a way of getting hold of CB and can PM if you're eager.

I know what you mean - being relaxed about the bass and the environment in which you're playing is important (I've never really perceived bass-playing as a contact sport but the concerns are ever-present). I've seen a few Allevas come up over on Talkbass recently that might fit the bill. I think many of Jimmy's customers (I can claim first name terms here - woohoo!) are busy pro players so some of the second user ACs show signs of having been to work. I can also claim with some confidence that these basses sound and feel 'old' and played-in.

    Good luck with the search!
He's right :)

  2.
I Just sold my peavey alpha valve pre amp to Steve. The transaction was smoother than Tippi-Toes (The Meters), and as hassle-free as Lively Up Yourself (Marley). And like playing bass on the Pussy Cat Dolls tour (i wish), it's something i'd definitely do again.

Pleasure doing business, one to trust!

  3. I have a Gramma too and I also find that it makes a difference although I would not say its a massive amount. I reckon I lose about 10% of the boom that I would have without it which is obviously a great help so I take mine to every gig!

  4.
I completely agree with you that it is a feedback thread, and not 'dirt dishing' - the thing is fundamentally quite a bit of the transaction was sound and if there hadn't been the silly little niggles that had happened then it would have been just as smooth an experience as yours. Interestingly enough, I found him no problem to get hold of even when the sale started getting a little controversial.

Is that your racing green/creme Alleva-Coppola in your display picture by the way? Such a unique looking bass...
To be fair there are other negative experiences that people have had so people can make their own minds up anyway :-) I knew you were not dirt dishing so no problems there.

Yes the racing green/creme Alleva is mine, its a great bass and always gets comments from the crowd when we play!!

    Cheers,

    Steve

  5. I owned the CS Jazz after Marcus and I concur that it is a superb bass, the playability was one of the best I have ever played.

This may sound pathetic but I let it go because I am not a massive fan of natural Jazzes and knew that a refin would destroy its value.

As for keepers, I am saying nothing :-)

  6. I speak as I find and its a real shame that you had a problem when dealing with Trevor.

However since this is a feedback thread for Trevor I should just like to state that I swapped basses with Trevor with some cash my way about 12 months ago and I had no problem whatsoever and found him pleasant and easy to deal with although occasionally a little hard to get hold of.

Other people may have other experiences and I appreciate that but mine was not bad at all.

  7. I have had my IP stack for two years now and as a GASaholic its amazing that I haven't considered or felt the need to buy anything else. For the size and portability the sound, volume and clarity are amazing!!!

  8. Just received a fantastic 1977 Fender Jazz from Ari which is exactly as described.

Ari packed the bass really well and shipped it very quickly and I would highly recommend him to anyone as a great person to deal with and completely trustworthy.

    Thanks Ari!

  9. Looks fantastic!! I know what you mean about the almost compressed thing!!

The last two gigs I have played I have had two different people, both musicians, tell me after the gig that the bass sound was the best they had ever heard. Unfortunately they didnt mention my playing just the tone :-)

  10.
Ask yourselves a simple question... how far would any of this sh*t have got on Talkbass.com? You think it's overly-PC here, that people jump at nothing and have no, ahem, 'sense of humour' here? Try a MILF thread over there and see what happens.
Can we have a chicks at shows thread then as its allowed on Talkbass? :)

    :)

We will have to have an Alleva get together!!! I would love to play some others!

  12.
I've heard a rumour that two more Allevas are heading over to the UK and straight into the hands of BC'ers.

A burgundy mist KPB4 with roasewood board and matching headstock and a sonic blue LG4 with dalbergia negra board and also with matching headstock :)
I am gassing for an LG4!! Do you know who is getting the basses? It isn't me unfortunately!

  14. Hi Andy,

This bass used to be mine and also Mark (Bassaussie) owned it for a few months as well. I sold it to WaveyDavy and then somehow it's got to you.
One of the nicest Sadowskys I have played, cracking tone and super playable.
Just a couple of minor points which I may be wrong about as my memory isn't great but I think I bought it in August 2005 from a guy in the States who had had it about a month from new so I am pretty sure its newer than 2002.
Also, The VTC's were not factory fitted until more recently and if I recall correctly I got John Diggins (Jaydee) to fit it for me.

Best of luck with this - I think you should hold onto it!!! Also, please let me know whoever does get this as I need to know where it is for if ever I want to buy it back myself. I did about 60 gigs with this bass!!

  15.
Out of interest birdy, what preamps have you amassed for use with the IP?
I tried the Radial bassbone and a sansamp initially which sounded good and then got the Summit which was great. Currently got the EBS classic preamp which I really like and a microdrive as backup.

Hmm, maybe I should try some more!!!

Will take a pic of the rig at tonights gig and post later!!

    Steve
