Unfortunately I was too slow and it had sold! So it isn't me who is getting it.

  3. Thanks Guys, The new price varies from around £1500 upwards depending on options etc. There is a full price list on Marks website detailing what you can get. The 4 strings are cheaper than 5's etc. Considering they are in the same league as Sadowsky, Roscoe, F Bass etc etc they seem pretty good value.

Flanker has the Roscoe, an F Bass, a jazz and a precision but I think there could be more suprises in store ;-)
His F Bass is a real beauty.

I think I am as bad as he is when it comes to swapping basses. As you have seen I am having a clear out and am on the verge of ordering another Nordy 5 from Mark possibly with swappable pickups so I can switch between P/J and J/J with relative ease.

The other great thing about these basses is the customer service. Even though I bought this bass from Flanker making it second hand I contacted Mark with some queries about pick up combinations and Nordstrand have sent us a set of pick ups FREE OF CHARGE as I had an earlier model and they had made some improvements! I was amazed by this as they are not cheap.

  4. I was pretty impressed with bass_ferrets fretless GB but if you heard me play fretless you wouldn't let me near it :-)

Other than that SlapHappyGarrys red stingray was a beaut and although I haven't seen it I would guess Jebo's CAR 66 Jazz is pretty special!

    Steve

EDIT: I forgot to mention Flankers F Bass - thats some bass that I keep trying to prise away from him :-)

  5.
You have been a busy boy. Presume the Roscoe has gone in the other direction.
Yes thats right! Very busy and its not over yet ;-)

  6.
I've played this bass - it's a stunner.

    Envious of Preston.
I think we have been in a similar boat for a while dabbling with fivers and not finding one that suits. I happened to play one over at Marks (bassdirect) and thought wow, I wonder if the necks are like this on all of them and that was that. I think once you get to a certain level of bass its not about anything being better its about personal preference as to what suits you better but you could do worse than get one on order :-)

    Mark
Its never too late on basschat. Marks PM was about something else!

    Yours is replied to also.

In case anyone else is wondering I am in North Birmingham if anyone wants to try it out. So I talk funny loike if yam can understand me.

  8.
Hi Steve,

That NYC Sadowsky must be hitting the spot.....

I'm toying with the idea of putting a Sadowsky Circuit into My 1970 Custom Shop !

Maybe I should just buy your Metro and have done with it !

    Mark
Good Idea! Its a different beast to your 1970 Custom Shop. Its lighter but with a much darker tone and is particularly nice when passive. PS the NYC is on its way also, I am a born again Nordstrand enthusiast at the moment :-)

EDIT: On a serious note I wouldnt change anything on your Fender. As its one of a 100 its collectability in the future would rely on it being stock with no broken solder joints I reckon. If you leave it as it is it will be worth a few bob in a few years!

  9.
as been said the serial number on stingray is on the bridge..that serial is B012xxx that refers to a 79 stingray

why resist to gas? embrace the gas..eheheheh
Thanks, they moved them a lot over the years. My B00 one was on the neckplate which is why I asked but its a lovely bass. They do sound absolutely great from my experiences!

  10. Here is my new to me Nordy VJ5 which I recently got from Flanker in a trade. The first 5 string that I have felt confident enough to gig with, what a neck. This is the reason for my clear out in the for sale thread. I will shortly be ordering another one, check them out at bassdirect!

  11. Definately up for sale is my Sadowsky Metro which has been heavily used and gigged for the last 3 years. Its a wonderful example of a metro and almost as good as the NYC models in my opinion.

There are some dings on it which I have tried to show but none affect playability and I think its a cool looking bass.

Looking for £1000 for this and will genuinely sad to see it go but needs must.

Comes with the Sadowsky hard/soft case which has been gigged and so a little untidy but gets the job done.

  12. Taken some more pics today. Without pick up covers or straplocks but rest assured they are all present and correct.

Its a camera phone but not too bad and I am no Lord Lichfield.

  13.
I'd be interested to know how much you payed for her. I know V&R are known for hiking their prices a lot!!

They had a really nice sounding '72 Jazz for £2,800, no pickup covers.

    Si
I paid over £5500. Maybe I could get one off ebay for £4000?!? I wanted the assurance that it was all original and hadn't been put together as a parts bass or made somewhere in the far East etc.

If you check Gbase.com which is an American site you will see that the going rate there is about $10,000-11,000 for something similar and then you have to pay tax and shipping.

As a bass its probably worth £2000 in terms of it matches Sadowskys and other high end basses, the rest is nostalgia and investment.

One things for sure is that it will appreciate in value.

I would be interested in what anyone on here thinks its worth. I won't change my price as I could sell it back to V&R for close to £5000 tomorrow and they will then sell it on for £6000 and it will sell, may just take 6 months.

    Thanks

    Steve

  14. I have played Lovecats and I think you are fairly close but not quite there. Can't remember without a bass to hand but the chorus has a couple of different notes that it slides up to for starters and the main riff I think you have done is only half right (the first half).

I thought the main riff was...

    Main riff

    E—5-------------------5--3
    A--------7—5—3---------

    E—1-----------------3-----
    A--------5—3—2-2-------- X2 no lyrics X4 with lyrics

Or similar....let me know what you think as it could be me thats wrong !

  15.
The bass isn't bad, but I love the sofa :)
Not mine unfortunately :-) The pics I have shown are the pro ones from V&R this time last year.

I will do some more and post but I am sure anyone who wants this bass would come and view in person.

I don't really expect to sell it on this forum but you never know and its worth offering it here first as I am not in a mad rush to sell - its just something that I should move on and let someone else enjoy.

    Steve

  16.
Wow!!!

£5k is a hell of a lot of money...

    Even for a Bass :)
Thank heavens its not a 1960 stackknob or we would be looking at £30k :-)

EDIT: in fact thank goodness its sunburst so its 'only' £5.5K - If it was a rarer colour we would be looking at even more!!!

    Steve

  17. Reluctant sale really but I am just not using this and need some money for mundane things like cars and house repairs!

I bought it from V&R 12 months ago so am pretty sure of its provenance so read on....

It was previously owned by Jimmy Nail and appears in the film 'Still Crazy' which is quite cool.

Its a 65 in sunburst which is pretty worn in all the right places. Its 100% original apart from it 'may' have had a refret and theres an extra hole in the pickguard for some reason. The guys at V&R weren't sure if it had been refretted but they said it is likely that it has. The extra hole is relatively minor. I don't think the case is original but its from the same period. The only other thing is minor which is the string tree is missing from the headstock. Its got both ashtrays etc etc. The tone pot is a little noisy when turned but nothing too worry about.

Its got a very distinctive patch of wear above the bridge pick up which is how I am sure that it was in the film. Its a sort of worn away bit of wood where a thumb has been I think.

One other minor point is the serial number isn't an 'L' series one. The neck is dated Oct 65. Its a transition bass with the oval tuners and dots on the neck with no binding. The neck is really thin at the top, similar to a Geddy Lee jazz.

It sounds and plays really really good. Flanker and Funkmunky have played this and both really liked it.

I could have got one cheaper no doubt than if I had bought from somewhere other than V&R but I wanted to know it was the real deal and have some comeback. I have a certificate valuing it at £6500 for insurance purposes and stating its provenance and the fact it was in the film etc.

To cut a long story short I paid over £5500 for it and would expect to lose a little possibly but would be looking at offers around £5500 or it would be better to hang onto it as it will go up in value.

I could sell it back to V&R for around 5K and they would then sell on for £6K plus I imagine but would prefer to see if anyone on here wants it. Will upload some pics later.

I have played many many high end basses and this is really up there with all of them.

Heres a link to Jimmy Nail with it in the film to be going on with http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1800019391/photo/34305

Does the con relate to how much you earn in your day job or how much out of music?
