1. Recently purchased off our very own Bass Ferret its still in good condition.

Since I bought my Berg rig I havent got much need for this and its 1x12 partner has now gone as has my EBS head.

£200 or I will keep it for noodling around on. This is a good deal I think for a great little cab.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a move away from high end fender like copies back to the real thing?

Having had both Fender CS and Sadowsky basses - how do you think they compare?
I'll chirp in here as I have owned both. I think in terms of build quality and playability they are very similar although I think the Sadowskys are slightly consistently higher quality but when you get a good CS one you get a good one!

They differ in terms of sounds as the Sadowksy doesnt do the passive fender as well as the CS and the CS doesnt do the aggressive cut through as well as the Sadowsky in my opinion.

Horses for courses, both cracking basses!

  4. I have read through all of this and agree with a lot of whats been written so far. In particular I predict a riot, Place your Hands, Valerie and Town called Malice all do the trick as does any James Brown.

The one song that works at pubs, corporate and weddings for us is Mr.Brightside by the Killers. Always the best reaction of the night.

It can't be far off and what a lovely collection.

The way I justify what I spend on gear is by having a worse car than I could do if I didnt buy basses. Instead of driving round in a £20K car mine is worth about £2K. When I replace it it will be with one worth about £5K.

The basses will depreciate less than a car as well, especially ones such as Kiwis!

  6.
Listening to what my current band have recorded, there a low Bs being played, and apparently he had a 5 string.

I couldn't possibly be a**ed to try to play a 5 string with such a wide neck, especially as I can't even be bothered with a 4 string Precision width neck(!) (Jazz all the way) Especially as I have 3 (4 string Jazz) basses available.

Has anyone tried setting up a 4 string as the bottom 4 strings on a 5 string ie .065" to .125" guage tuned to BEAD?

I cannot believe nobody has tried this......

    David H
I havent tried this but I have read of people who have with success. One thing to note is that you will probably have to adjust the trussrod as the string tension will be different. I seem to remember as well that there may be an issue or challenge with regards to the nut as the strings are larger diameter so possibly you may have to file out the nut or have some work done.

If it were me I would consider getting a D tuner and playing the B's higher up OR having a go on a fiver.

    Hope this helps

  7.
Sorry I've not replied. I was shaving my head.
To be honest I've never really get on with bass players. They always seem to have a over inflated view of how important they are to a band. I've always thought that they were more than adequately substituted by a decent synth/sampler. Let's face it songs like For Once in My Life and What's Goin' On would have sounded much better with a Moog rather than Jamerson's boring thunk.
Plus you don't have to listen to a synth drone on about how the guitarist is drowning them out or how the FOH engineer doesn't understand "their" sound.

Anyway must dash - I've got a wig fitting this afternoon.
Got to keep the gear moving! I am just rationalising my position to one of clarity as they say!

As always kids, dont try this at home ;)

  9. I have an EBS HD350 that I got from Urb last year and its been fine but I have never gigged it as I had the Mesa Walkabout that was smaller.

Anyway, I decided to sell it and had a deal with 6 string bassist (Kev) who came round and was about to buy it until we noticed that occasionally there was some slight hissing noise. Its hard to explain but it was quite intermittent and we agreed best not to do a deal. I took the top off the amp and it seemed to be something around the transformer. I pushed a few wires around and seated a few connections and I haven't heard the noise since.

Ideally it should maybe be serviced and if necessary repaired but I just want to sell it now sold as seen in order to get some cash in.

If this was in perfect condition I would be looking for £450 which is what I paid.

Willing to let this go for SOLD bought as seen which I think is fair as it leaves you SOLD to spend on it which may be completely unnecessary. I am not going to post this as I want whoever buys it to come and see/play it in North Birmingham.

I think this is a fair deal? I am not trying to rip anyone here at all. I honestly don't think theres much wrong with it.

    Thanks

I reckon its a wind up as 'Phil' only joined today but its a very good one :)

Jebos reply was pretty cool also

You can also do all the pitch correction, slowing down and looping in Audacity.
+1 on this I have the mac version and its fantastic. Plug the bass into Garageband, fire this up, load an itunes playlist and off you go. You can lessen the bass by lowering the EQ which I think is effectively all that the tascam and others do.

If you really want to remove bass completely I guess you could download some midi versions of the songs possibly but havent tried this myself. I like to set the EQ so that I can just hear the original bassline in conjunction with mine to keep me in check.

  13.
Hi Guys,

I've been gassing for a Ray for a while now, there's been a couple of nice modern Ray's on here for like £650 - £700 while for a pre EB we're talking £1500 + leaving aside the historical significance and investment potential, and thinking from a playability, tone & feel perspective are the Pre EB Ray's that much better ?

I know individual instruments from both era's will vary greatly but in general what are your experiences ?

    Cheers

    Mark
Hi Mark,

I have owned 3-4 post EB stingrays from the late 80s through to the 00s and one pre EB stingray. The pre EB stingray was very nice but VERY HEAVY. The playability of it was not as good as the more modern ones although its sound was probably the best out of all the rays I have owned but in a very subtle way that not all would agree with.

I think its generally considered that the late 80s, early 90s rays are the best value for money but I am sure others will chime in.

If you buy a Pre EB it should in theory appreciate in value more so than any of the others which may make it a good choice for you.

  14. I am going to link to Richards for sale thread here

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11362

I have just received this bass in a trade with Richard in order for him to buy my NYC Sadowsky.

Although its a lovely bass I can't justify keeping this as I am moving over to 5 stringers and need to raise cash to fund a Nordy VJ5.

Looking for £675 (No Offers) plus P&P on this beauty.

I will eBay soon and the start price will be £675 so get it now!!!!

    Thanks

    Steve

  15. Hi Guys, not a single PM on this to date which I sort of expected due to its value but then again you never know.

I have to decide whether to reinsure this in a week or so so if it hasn't sold in the next week I will take it down to V&R and sell it through them so if you are remotely interested please get in touch as they will be selling for £6K + I think and it will sell for that whether after a week or a year.

    Thanks

    Steve

    There's this one here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EBS-MICRO-BASS-II-PR...7QQcmdZViewItem

Not such a good price as the one that just sold.

What did you think of the Summit TD100, Mark said you were going to try it.
Hi Kev,

I bought the Summit TD100 and am loving it :-) My wanting the EBS pre was just really as an additional flavour to be used as and when for certain gigs and this one seemed a good deal and they dont come up too often. Bit of an impulse move so not too worried to have missed it :-)
