Just watched it, I wonder if it was live as it was a very polished performance. Agree JT still killing it on bass.

I think they've been performing pretty much constantly for the past couple of years. I'm not surprised they sound polished.

I sold a guitar on Reverb. Booked the evri via Packlink on Wednesday on a 24 hour service as I didn't want it sitting in a depot over the weekend. It was picked up Thursday so should have been delivered on Friday, but wasn't.

I have been trying to find out what's happening and this is the tracking info on evri's site:

I'm not sure why they are saying it is bigger than expected — I entered the correct weight and dimensions when booking the delivery. Trying to find more info I discovered different tracking information on the Packlink site:

Evri's automated phone system seems to be designed to infuriate and after going through various options which offer no new information, it hangs up with no chance to speak to a sentient being.

I'm now waiting for someone at evri, and someone at packlink to get back to me with an update.

Evri will take a booking for a parcel that’s too big. They’ll then try and charge you extra for handling it.

You have to remember that most Evri drivers are using their own cars and tend to deliver small items.

  3. These are very nice, foldable close-back headphones. They were bought new in January, and have been used for no more than about an hour.

I wanted a pair of closed-back headphones for work. I lecture in music production and bought these for my personal use in class and in the uni’s studio.

They still have the plastic protection on the back of each earpiece.

Complete with box, cable and carry bag.

    The price includes postage.

    From the manufacturer’s website:

    Features & details

“An exceptional pair of over-ear headphones that deliver premium sound quality in an affordable package.” Austrian Audio Hi-X15, What Hi-Fi? Awards 2021

Our proprietary High Excursion Technology, for low THD at lower frequencies and clear, precise sound

They have low impedance, so they sound great even when connected to low-power outputs like mobile devices.

    Metal hinge for maximum durability

Soft memory foam earpads to keep you comfortable during the longest sessions

Foldable construction for easy storage, uncommon in this price range

Detachable 1.4 m cable included. Optional replacement of different length cables available.

Most bass playing is about patterns. If you know your patterns it makes the lines you play easier to create and more effective.

It’s better - in my opinion- to know your notes, scales, chords etc.

If I’m practicing a scale I don’t go root then up a tone and then another etc. I’ll play the root note then the 2nd might be an octave away. I’ll play the notes in random areas. This I think helps you know the scale and your way around the instrument.

But they have to be the right related skills.

As I mentioned in my previous post I work in another creative industry - graphics - and in the days when I was still working for advertising agencies, the graphic design graduates we employed would spend most of their first 6 months unlearning most of what they had been taught at university and learning the correct way to apply their artistic skills in a real-world environment. It's not good being able to produce cutting-edge creative design when most of the people paying you are going to be very mundane with mundane products and tastes. The same, from what I have seen, applies to every creative occupation.

Interestingly of all the people I have worked with the ones who have the biggest artistic success are those with no formal arts or graphics education, but who were entirely self-taught, and had the required get up and go to make it happen by themselves.

My BMus course and every course I’ve taught on have made a point of instilling in the students the requirement to have a portfolio of skills, and teaching those skills.

On my BMus I learned to compose and arrange string, brass and small orchestra parts. We deconstructed and rearranged songs, changing their genre. We learned the ins and outs of producing using a DAW.

Performance-wise the emphasis was on our own instrument. We also did vocals, percussion and piano.

In the final year we could choose whether to do events management or study for a Rock School instructor qualification.

So, a whole gamut of skills.

The course I’m currently teaching on is very similar, though it also has a big element of live sound production, something my BMus didn’t have. Where I work has its own professional standard live music venue.

  6. I did my music degree in 2012/15.

My main instrument was bass but I kind of got sidetracked and fell in love with the production/composition side of my course. So much so I did a masters followed by a PhD in composition.

I now teach music production, composition and music business at Level 3 and at degree level. From September I’m going to be teaching some performance courses too.

I absolutely love my job. I can only do it because I went to university. If I hadn’t gone then I probably wouldn’t have discovered my love for producing.

Courses also equip you with a lot of so called ‘soft skills’ that employers really love.

You make invaluable contacts, both through your tutors and fellow students.

He's a fantastic player. I bought the AG1000 signature amp because I do love his sound.

I have to say though - his solo stuff is a bit pants compared to the legendary tunes like CK's one in the vid. I was a bit disappointed in his solo album. Fine playing - just in desperate need of a tune.

I'm saving up for an AG1000.

  8. I’m a longtime admirer of Andrew’s playing. Here, he’s taking Chaka Khan’s two hits to another level completely.

I guess he’s able to do this because:

    a) he has total mastery of his instrument and tremendous chops.

    and

    b) he’s so familiar and at ease with the harmony in the two songs.

I have to learn these two songs for a new band I’m playing for. I play a 6 string bass, I’m definitely watching these for inspiration.

He detunes his bass by a tone by the way.

I have a transcription of these two tunes from a Chaka Khan concert.
