As for Jon Snell - when i was sorting out my hifi valve amp I mentioned previously - in my thread on diyaudio.com, he actually advised on the improvements I could do to protect the transformers, what valves would be fine to use instead of the EL34 etc.. I just dug out that thread and among these recommendations he mentioned he had been service engineer for over 45 years… Definitely a gentleman who knows his trade..

Hi, If you are comfortable with soldering iron then de-solder the transformer winding wires from wherever these are attached to. Check for shortage between primary & secondary winding too - in my hifi valve amp one of the secondary transformers went to heaven for that reason - very rare failure i was told but nothing I could do about it (fault itself).🤦♂️ If the transformers are fine then the fault is obviously somewhere else, just a common sense and look for any wire detached or anything that looks burnt out.. That Mullard ECC83 is indeed worth few quid, don’t rub it clean as if there is a code printing on it it rubs off easily and actually this code can tell what year the tube was ,,born,, etc.. Wish i had this, fingers itching.. I hope though that the fault has nothing to do with transformers as that is the most expensive component here.. (bar the tubes if any of these are causing it but then any cheap new production tubes would do for the purpose of troubleshooting ).

@dagrev by any coincidence - you don’t have any pedals in chain, even if turned off/disengaged but still fed by power supply? I noticed just today that my few pedals somehow cause this sort of interference resulting in such buzz very similar to yours. I normally have my bass plugged directly into amp but it was just tonight i poked around my pedals and all of sudden got this buzz but it died as soon as i unplugged the pedal’s power supply from mains..(the power supply is a proper one, brand new, some Harley Benton for about £65 with hundreds of great reviews so i f*ck wonder now).. Will have a look at how to trace the culprit as i have few ideas why that might be.. Btw, apologies to everyone else, we should have been posting this in some ,, troubleshooting,, section..

Electrical interference in live line or electromagnetic interference are invisible so we can’t know what/where the source is unless trouble shooting it like this.. Unplugging everything but amp may help to see.. Applies for the rest of the house.Never know. I love to overthink you know. 🤦♂️ Back in the good old days of CRT TVs and two stroke mopeds riding by your house, sometimes you could tell before it could be heard 😁 due to f*cked capacitor in moped’s ignition 🤦♂️😁 And to be honest sometime it may depend on the time of the day as the source of this (interference) may be even outside your premises.. Entirely possible that less buzz is generated at e.g midnight.. Let’s see what happens when trying it somewhere else..

@dagrev btw that sound sample you posted sounds to me like 50HZ from mains… If you plug the cable in but do not plug guitar, what does it do? Does the buzz go away? Because it may be that the pickups are picking up some noise from poorly filtered dc adapter or something. Funny enough, yesterday i got myself some cheap cab and had to place it somewhere so as a result my bass is now picking up (pickups more precisely) some electromagnetic interference from the Warwick gnome i have sat on the top of it because it is practically right in front of me about a meter & half from pickups. Not as noisy as in your sample but i also noticed when i moved around with the bass the noise disappeared or faded away. I mean I should have known better but it didn’t click 🤦♂️😁 So that’s normal, in sense you can use the bass to track where the interference is coming from by following the signal.. By any chance do you have any power adapters (dc power supplies) plug in while using the amp? The other day i had cheapo dc supply that feeds my pedals transmitting an interference much worse than the one in your example. And I accidentally found out when unplugged it from mains..

I may be well drifting into the BS territory but my way of thinking is as follows: Dodgy input socket? Is its ground connection ok? By that i mean ground connection on PCB at the input socket terminal up to the end of the lead/cable once that is plugged in..Eventually the continuity of the ground all through the preamp.. Input lead/cable acting like an antenna - picking up some stupid signal - here i would take whole thing (amp) to a friend’s house to see if the same issue persists. But then i believe you must have been using different amp in the same room at some point so it would be pretty obvious if the other amp was doing the same. And obviously I would try different lead/cable .. However, if you can send it back for a refund then I would do that given that any further investigation may render the guarantee invalid..

Was going to ask more less the same (about the tone) Although I haven’t got any amp that ,,needs,, tube i have an Audio Innovation 500 (2nd Gen) which is hifi valve amp (2 x ECC88 as inverters) 1 x ECC83 as pre-amp and 2 x ECC 83 phono preamp. For the power stage it takes 4 x EL34 or 6L6GC or eventually 5881. To cut the story short , the ECC83 in pre-amp position affects the sound enormously in that sense that if you immerse yourself in the music you would really notice the difference. But that is a hifi amp so I wonder how this would be perceived in normal bass amp.. Anyone ever tried to roll tubes (ECC83 in pre-amp section) in bass amp to see if it sounds better or worse? Btw, ECC83 is the same as 12AX7 as that is American numbering or marking or whatever you call it. ECC803 can be used in its place too i believe. And as far as I remember there are also ,,long plate,, versions of these tubes (ECC83) unsure about ECC803 if these ever came as long plated. British Mullard ECC83 from about 1960 or even earlier, Blackburn factory(don’t know exactly the years and hopefully not mixing up Blackburn production for Mitcham or whatever 🤦♂️) are very valuable valves, if you have anything at home that might have a tube in it better check it before chucking it in the bin.. JJ btw is Slovakian company, as far as i remember from what i read on internet they bought equipment used previously by Tesla (Czechoslovakian company, not that ehm Elon..) and they carry on making tubes although it obviously has nothing to do with previous Tesla production, never mind the quality- by that i am not saying that JJ valves/tubes are junk.. Lol, from the top of my head I must have about 30 or over 30 of ECC83/12AX7 of various makes - time to get myself one so that i can figure out by myself? Sorry for the rant 🤷♂️😁

Hi folks, Just in case any of us bedroom players wonder how to go about the replacement of that little jet engine fan at the back of RM 500 EVO & I think someone already mentioned it in one of previous posts but just in case.. It's purpose is: ,,the fan is there to change the air inside the enclosure, it does not have to provide a blast, just a gentle air exchange, to this end any fan you choose would be suitable.,, These are the words of mr.Dave Green from Ashdownmusic, who kindly responded to my query over what specs should the replacement fan be. So i am truly very grateful for his response given the original email was sent to ,,whoever,, at Ashdownmusic. Credit to them. 💗 That being said, the fan inside seem to be 60 x 60, might be 15 mm thick but i have feeling there is enough room for 25mm. So i ordered fan from RS Components, 19 Db at some 2500 rpm (RS badged, the other one with similar specs,if not slightly better, better make, was about £15 more)& if the plonkers from DHL have delivered it yesterday (it's just past midnight) i could of have had it fitted by now. Two wires to solder or just to attach correctly. The original fan is some no name stuff, the noise reminds me of APU at the back of RyanAir Boeing 737 when walking around the left wing towards rear entry lol.. Now seriously, it isn't bad at all but i like to muck about the things so hence the change, i've got Warwick Gnome iPro v2 and that is quieter then a tombstone compared to RM but then it is much smaller in size as you all know, less then A5, just over an inch thick.

..Dumb me.. The third wire would be a common ground/0V.. As what @DGBass says about voltages seems to be correct according to the online converter. The only thing left to figure out is how many Amperes the transformer has to be able to supply safely. Which should not be that hard to figure out as long as you know the wattage of the amp. But again, I don’t remember much of the stuff as it has been decades since college but briefly P= U*I where P is the power in Watts, U is for voltage & I for current (amperes). (Hope i am not terribly wrong here as unsure how exactly this applies to amplifiers but dumb light bulb wattage can be worked out like that I think..) Hope someone can shed some light on..

Hi, Not going to be of much help but i can see the output from rectifier is +45V and -45V so perhaps secondary winding output of transformer has to be in such region. As that is what feeds rectifier. I don’t remember much from college (studied electronics extensively) but i can imagine two wires on input (240V) so them three should be related to output.. See diyaudio website, people there design their own amps and perhaps someone there could help on how to go about sourcing appropriate transformer for your amp.

Btw, Audacity (free software) let you do a plenty of stuff to the song.. In the Effect drop down menu there is a section ,,EQ & Filters,, -> LOW or HIGH Pass filter. Can't remember which i used but happy with the result.. Can loop too. Audacity

On that Trace Elliot note - I recently bought one off eBay for peanuts, TE GP7SM 150. My bid was £70, starting price was £56, it went for £66..🤦♂️😁 The only annoying thing is i had to go & get it = 2 hours drive each way..🙄🤦♂️ The pre-shape option on it - could not believe how low it pushes the amp and it still sounds clean.. That is head only though, i’ve got Ampeg 15 inch cab hooked to it that i bought for £90 few months ago..

Well, actually here on Basschat Marketplace there is one for £250 i think… Local pick up i believe though..

Ehm, isn’t there a typo? 🤦♂️😂

Hi folks, Selling Sire V7 2nd gen in Lake Placide blue color. The thing is as new bar that tiny scratch/scuff at the back which looks worse in the picture than in reality is, and if you look very carefully you may find some tiny marks i can't even see.. Simply, in excellent condition.. I am a second owner, the bass was brought from France by 1st owner because he could not get this color here in UK that time (that's what i was told.)So he paid duties on the top of purchasing price.. Replaced the knobs by something from Guyker from Aliexpress if memory serves me well (the stacked ones), the solo ones are just plain dumb knobs you just slide on to the shaft. I may even have the original ugly ones lying around somewhere if you desperately need them.. DR Black Beauties on it, must be plenty of life left in them given that i own basses but don't know how to properly play them Not in a hurry to sell it but it just sits in the stand as i got myself something from much higher range & make. That's not to say this is bad bass and you know how good this stuff is anyway..I've got another one, 1st gen V7, i bought off Basschat members years ago that i still keep.. Collection only as i can't see myself posting it, unable to pack etc.. But could deliver to Warwickshire or places around (not too far) as i do go there on occasions. Price drop to £350, it's on the eBay too but there it adds up a bit due to protection fee or whatever it is..

Hi, How did you try to update it? Via Guitar Lab or manually? Might be something pretty dumb like a ,,not so good,, USB cable. I’ve got one but for the sake of it I can’t remember how I updated it.. Ver 2.0 last firmware on mine.

I've bought that lovely Warwick Gnome iPro V2 from Douglas - the amp is indeed in excellent condition and the communication just as great. Thank you so much.
