1. Hi I'm based in Yorkshire. Do you already have the gigs booked?
2. I think there is definitely a distinction from karaoke. The voice is an instrument just like the bass and singers/vocalists train and practice to become better just like every other musician would. It sometimes gets forgotten though because everyone has this instrument and, like lowdowner said, it's not a physical object. But there has to be a line between people that dedicate years to perfecting their singing voice and people that sing on karaoke every Friday night. I think its a case of, if you are good at karaoke then you have the potential of being a vocalist (in a similar sense of having good hand-eye coordination and rhythm, would be a good start for a drummer). But just like all instruments there's so many different techniques to learn and ways to improve stamina and tone etc which would require years of practice and hard work. Having said this, I am not a singer and I have nothing against karaoke! I'm just conscience of some people thinking their craft isn't fully appreciated
3. Hi Hutton, I can't answer your question directly but I've had a similar experience with Ibanez. I was going to a shop to look at an SR500 and next to it was an SR400. I had the current catalogue at the time and there was no mention of the 400 (just went from sr300 to sr500). I ended up liking it and thought i'd save a little money too so bought it from GAK. It was available from a few websites in the UK but had no mention in the Ibanez catalogue. A quick google search doesnt fill up with places to buy yours from and the ones i found we're USA sites. But in my experience, not being in the catalogue doesnt mean a huge deal. Let us know how you get on with your search!
4.
mattcbass, black gaffa tape works a treat on the strap pin problem.
I've taped a sponge across the bottom which seems to be working OK, may cover it with gaffa tape to make it last longer though. Thanks for the advice
5. the replacements are specifically Schaller. It wasnt clear sorry. But if they weren't Schaller then i'd want to try it on my button rather than buying blind off the internet. unless someone can confirm they are definitely M10x0.75
6. Glad i came across this post! I lost my nut and washer in the last gig. Didn't notice until I had got home though so pretty lucky the strap didn't come away from the button! Have you been able to confirm that they are M10x0.75? Ive found a website selling replacements for 10p! but delivery is £6.00! I've tried my local hardware shop and they told me to try the electrical shop across town. Haven't managed to go yet but I will ask for an M10x0.75 and try it on for size. Would rather trek to a few shops than spend 6 quid on delivery for something smaller than a stamp!
7. I've had the same Warwick Rockbag for the past 7 years. It has been thrown into vans and cars and protected my bass perfectly. The only flaw is the bottom strap pin is slowly carving a hole into the base padding but thats only a very recent problem. so +1 for warwick rockbags I've also recently bought an SKB hard foam case. I know you're looking for a gig bag but it was similar price to the warwick bags, it was shaped so not too bulky plus it has a handle on the rear where the straps meet so you could hang it from there. Just thought i'd mention it
8. Thanks guys for the replies. I'd love to play for the shows, my sight reading isn't amazing but I would embrace the challenge if I ever got the chance. We've almost learnt enough songs from each decade/genre to manage a full night's worth of each so that aspect shouldn't be an issue. The lead singer also plays clarinet so that could come in handy if we ever needed some jazz/easy listening instrumentals. Did you find that it was easy getting your first contract? We've applied to a few agents and some go cold after we say we haven't had any ship experience and a few just haven't got any work at the moment.
9. Hi all, I'm in a 5 piece function band that is currently applying/auditioning for cruise ship contracts. Was hoping to get any feedback and advice from those who have played on them before. Either in the show band or as a function/party band. What are the best and worst bits of the job? Thanks in advance!
