1. I have had exactly the same experience and I've tried various flats to find the perfect balance of deep tone and low tension.
My fingers and hands are suffering after years of belting high tension steel flats.

I've settled for GHS Precision medium gauge, which are quite high tension but they have that deep thump.
Pyramid Golds lack thump IME, they are very similar to TIs tone wise, just a little higher tension but they still have the nickel tone without the thump of steel.

Have you tried rotosound tru bass nylon strings?
They are high gauge but low tension and they have a deep thumpy tone.
I didn't use them because I don't like the way lower gauge strings rattle on the frets, but I will probably go back to them to save my hands.

Here's a review ;

2. I have Picato 45-105 flats on mine and they do sound deeper, considering the limits of the strat pick up.
I replaced the stock pick up with a Brandoni cool rails one, but it made no improvement to the sound so I put the stock one back in.
I've been thinking of trying a Seymour Duncan SCB-3 -

The MINGS one you linked is much cheaper and might be worth a go, but I'm not sure if these types will fit easily in the existing space.

Edit:
Just realised the MINGS is £10.11 including shipping from Hong Kong! - how can they do that?

3. Thanks AT - I forgot I posted in that thread last April to ask what is the tone like?
Will it go really deep for reggae, like the neck pup on a Jazz bass?

4. I'm thinking of buying one of these -

Edit - bought one, but the neck was way too thick for me.

Now I'm thinking of getting one of these instead:

Has anyone here had any experience of the JB-20?
I particularly want to know whether the neck on the JB-20 is slim like an old Fender Jazz, or thick like a Precision.
Also, what kind of weight I should expect from the JB-20.

I would fit flatwound strings and I play mainly reggae so I need a deep, smooth tone.
£75.00 is not a lot for a new bass....... unless it's rubbish

5. Why close the thread?
It will manage itself if any new bands update the list as they post.
The initial interest will tail off but it would always be there for future 'likers' and it's an archive of the many and varied bands that we share on facebook.

I hope its not spreading too far as its becoming a challenge to keep the list updated. If it gets to big I reserve the right to opt out :)

Maybe each new addition could update the list and add themselves to the bottom - that way the thread would manage itself.
Are we all using personal pages to do this though? Some folks are saying they've been through the list, but nothing materialises!?
Some people are not using personal pages and likes from band pages do not count towards total likes.

Are you talking about the link in your sig? If so it's not in the list so I hadn't liked it, but have just done so
