It's advertised as USA but I'm not sure the vvt is correct for a 62 reissue.
I will ask the seller for more details and a photo of the back of the head stock - I wonder if the US reissues had an extra strap button there, (I believe the Jap ones did).

Logo's were always applied over the lacquer on the vintage basses and so they do split, rub off.

There is a photo on the listing with the neck removed, showing the numbers 1/16/85 and the serial number on the neck plate looks to start with V.
But I thought the '62 reissues had stack knobs - is this not the case?
Are these series of basses generally regarded well or not and does the price seem reasonable?

Can anyone tell me if this is a genuine item?
Zooming in on the photo of the headstock, seems to show the logo sticker applied over the lacquer and I'm not sure it is the correct logo for the period.
Any advice gratefully received.

You might like TIs from what you say, if you can get along with the low tension.

What is the "overkill" 1800w SS amp you use and what cab(s) do you use with it?
I also play with a deep, clean reggae tone and I'm quite happy with my Markbass LM11 into 2x15" cabs, but it lacks the sheer oomph of a big rig.

Growl can come from the pick ups and some basses have it regardless of outboard signal processing.
Adjusting the pick up to be closer to the strings may increase growl.
Over wound pick ups may also help and there are custom replacement pick ups that may do the job.

Yes, I think the EBs are quite high tension but the main thing I remember was that they were too bright sounding for me.
They are similar to Chromes and they are my least favourite after Rotosounds, which I don't like at all.

It's the deep thump I find lacking in TIs and P Golds, I put it down to them being nickel but I haven't tried higher gauge Golds yet - sounds like I should give them a go

I find different flats suit different basses and also different styles of music.
My favourites for reggae and soul are medium/heavy GHS, Fender or Picatos, I also have some La Bella 760 FLs to try.
I like TIs or lighter Pyramid Golds for jazz or funk and they're both great for fretless, but the low tension is annoying on fretted bass because I play with a heavy touch.
I also have some DR Highbeam flats 45-105 which are very similar to GHS or Picatos - all great strings but hard on the fingers.

The main thing with all flats IMO is to give them time - they sound and feel better with age.

Thanks - I've got a couple of other questions about the JB-20 -
What is it like weight wise and how is the tone?
I use flatwound strings and only the neck pick up with the tone rolled off for a deep, smooth reggae sound.

The dekos seem to go very fast - I've watched but never managed to nab one.
£75 isn't too much too risk and I could even send it back for a refund if I don't like it.

I'm thinking of buying a JB-20 - can you tell me if it's a heavy instrument and is the neck slim like a 60s Fender?
