1. hi did you mean when i was playing it in the shop?? I did email you re bass lessons, and still wish to do them if you do. I have already sold the jag, its a great bass, but the one you have is cool. If you still want a lesson email on [email protected] that day was too early for me to make! HOWS the mark bass amp? what did you think of the bass merchant? i like working there, its a cool place to be,

    Rich.

  2. thank you all so much, im off to bass centre today to try one, will keep you posted.....and b4 you all shout, you can go there with an appointment.!

  3. Lovely bass and the punchy tone. Active and in exellent condition, in cool black. Comes with fender tweed gig bag (that was an extra and does not come when you buy the bass new) and all paperwork, and tags. Can be sent parcelforce 24 or collected from witham in essex. I have had this bass for a while, but need the cash for other things. Price is £400 for bass n case and £10 to ship. can take pay pal, but prefer cash on pick up, or cheque. PLease call 07957300029 for more info, Rich.

  4. slapping is cool. Im doing a wee bit here

It takes time and a certain amount of pain! start just by hitting the e string to a steady 4/4 beat and then the a string then alternate. I think the tone is really important too, cos a good tone will make you more eger to persist with it! good luck.
I'm bored, bored of playing the same tunes over and over again, i want something new to learn but i can't think of any songs that i don't allready know, i like playing rock, metal etc. can anyone come up with some suggestions, nothing rediculously hard like yyz etc. but challenging
Chic stuff, great lines.

  6. great condition, boxed, with gig bag, rack ears and manual. Very light, great sound, very strong, great nick, photos can be emailed. Have downsized to a combo, so no need for it. Best thing is look on the ashdown site for full specs. Sell for £100 and £10 for next day parcelforce 24. any questions 07957300029 essex based.

  7. wonderful condition and playability levinson b15 blade 5 string bass. This bass is as new in every way, not a scratch, ding or buckle scatch, and plays and sounds superb. It had a great write up in bass guitarist, and harmony central. Im asking £450 and this will include ritter gig bag, and next day parcelforce 24. Reason for sale is that after years of 6/5 string basses, im going back to the old 4 and have recently purchased a warwick, which is now my gigging bass. This bass needs to be enjoyed and played, and at the moment its ot getting that. It has a great low action, and fitted with new ddarrio strings. The build quality is second to none, and is a very comfy weight. It has an ajustable mid boost, and that fender growl and much ,uch more. It has that vintage funk tone, as well as modern punchy fingerstyle tones. The bass can also be collected from witham in essex. for any questions feel fre to all on 07957300029. I have this advertised on a couple of sites. This is a genuine great quality bass and is a great price, so dont think too long on this, it may be gone.
I done this to my Warwick Streamer Standard in early 2004 when I was playing a few 80’s tribute gigs with my college on the Isle of Wight. I was significantly pissed and found a skateboard in a bush but I had my bass on my back in a gig bag, so I jumped on the skateboard and…

I’d like to think I’ve learnt from my mistakes having acquired some considerably more expensive basses than a Streamer Standard (rrp £360ish).
I managed to get it fixed for 50 quid in a local shop and it came back looking spotless. I couldn't believe it. This bass is now retired from playing and is tucked up nice and safe. It won't ever be getting sold because of emotional attachment (it was my first 'real' bass), but don't know if I'd be able to get anyone on here to buy it anyways after reading this :).

Has anyone broken a bass worse than this?
Ouch! did you get it fixed?

  9. How do you cope when you're not having a good night but the audience are enjoying themselves? Grin, bear it and crank out 'Mustang Sally'! :)

Just close off to it, and think of the pay, or maybe what your gonna eat after the gig!! Or try your best to get into your own plaing (very hard in the situation, ) but sometimes the situ can turn around, just by the energy that you put out while playing. I have found that this happens some times. Its like they see your doing it and it gains respect (sometimes!! )

  10.
It could well be the other way around... that the 'madness' can drive you to have talent. Bipolar patients often also have OCD symptoms which could well cause them to practice to an extent that's vastly excessive compared to the rest of us.
wow never thought of it like that. life is a fine balance. I guess no matter what level your at, its really about enjoying what you do, and what you give to others when playing.

  11.
IIRC, he threw/dropped it out a window and it got run over by a taxi. I think he says something about it being away getting repaired in his instructional DVD... I might be wrong.

This bass, and another Jazz, later got 'stolen' some time before he took a holiday at Bellevue Hospital. Given his mental state, the fact that he was often homeless and reduced to begging for food in this period, and the fact that he often left his instruments unattended and at least once had to buy back his bass after giving it away, the nature of the theft is open to some interpretation.
That is so sad, and brings it home just how anybody no matter how talented can lose control of thier lives. But then like the painter, i think to have that much talent, and having to live with it (what must be going on in their heads ) could drive you mad, as what seems to have happened.

  12. I had two, friday was a boozer in kent, that was a really cool gig, and saturday was in burnham on crouch, essex, that was a birthday party, the birthday girl was trashed from the moment we got there, but it was also a really good night! I also used my levinson blade 5 for the first time, with my new korg ax3000b fx, great sound. Very different to the fender jag and corvett that i use. Its cool to have 3 basses that sound so differewnt.

Well its the first time i ever saw this (only been here 3 weeks) and i have to say thanks cos that was a really cool bit of reading on that link, and took me back to when i first heard Jaco and thought wow. I think anything to do with that guy deserves respect, even if it was posted 50 times before, it gave a newbie like me a chance to see it.

    THanks David.

  14.
Evening guys n gals

I'm curretnly looking for a back up bass as im putting my Fender in to have a big of work done on it and I'm going to be in need of a back up bass. I've got a budget of about £350 max so I've been looking at Rockbass, OLP's, Squiers and few other brands.

I'm in need of some advice when it comes to OLP and Rockbass; I haven't come across either in shops so I was wondering if they're actually any good seeing as theyre both so cheap, or do you get what you pay for?

Any other recommendations on basses around this price range are welcome!

    Thanks in advance

    Will
Hi i work in bass merchant. Olp are cool for the cash as are rockbass, but he has in a lovely mex p bass at 319. This particular one has great low action and feels really nice to me anyway. OLP are cool looking and sound good, but they can lose it in the mix, as they are not too powerful on sound, but the rockbass is a little better. Dean do good basses in that price range as wel.

  15.
I agree, I've done loads, and they have always been, friendly, well organised, good audiences, offering hot food, somewhere to change etc etc.
Bit shocking once doing Yeovilton, the communications went quiet prior to the gig, then when they eventually got in touch they explained that the original organiser had been killed in Iraq.
The party went ahead and I learned that those people have to take that in their stride. I can't tell you how much that makes me hold them in the highest esteem.
Yeah i know, when we play em, you just want to do your best and then sum. (as always) cos if anyone needs to let off steam, they do.

  16. Mine was i was playing in cornwall and the band were backing screeming lord such, and i had food posioning and while i was on stage, i puked all over my suite! I had to keep gioing, and it was being filmed, after him was Jet harris. I played along side him with puke stains down me!! No more roadside food for me i can tell you.

  17.
Drove the 240 miles to Linton-on-Ouse RAF base in Yorkshire, to play for them as part of their 90th anniversary celebrations (a ladies night) being intelligent types they got our toungue in cheek, witty humour and loved us, so a good night was had by all (after the 4hr drive back I still managed to join head with pillow by 2:30am
As a big plus point I met a fellow BCer on the way Peteb, who seems like a nice chap, he bought my SWR Goliath II, he's using it tonight. Hope it goes well Pete :)
