  1. I have never really understood the Eurovision. I mean 90 percent of the so called bands are just jokes really. I didn't see the point of this year's as everyone knew the Ukraine would win. It was a bit like having an Ethiopian entry circa 1984. No one else would have had a chance even if it was one guy dressed as a banana playing a synthesizer.

  2. Kate Bush is a genius. She was so original and had some fantastic musicians play behind her she pioneered a lot of experimenting in the studio mixing odd ethnic instruments And was one of the earliest people to use the Fairlight in her music.

  3. Unless you are going for a cocked wah frequency thing which I thing sounds awful on bass but good on lead guitar,I would just go for an envelope filter and carefully dial in what you want. I just build a dod fx 25 from Internet schematic not boxed yet but its the nuts.

I was 16 at the very end of 1972 so Bolan loomed large in my teenaged life, but even then nobody thought his songwriting was "unique" ... songs like Get It On (which I have played at every Junkard Dogs gig for the past 12 years), Jeepster, Hot Love etc. were barely-disguised re-treads of Chuck Berry riffs. What he was was GLAM and - at the time - that was enough.

It worked for Gary Glitter too, mind ...

By unique writing i was talking about things from the earlier days such as the album Unicorn. Warlord of the royal crocodiles and such.

  5. I'm a big Bolan fan. I watched the live gigs on the born to boogie dvd and he was interesting but not a very accurate solo guitar player in fact sometimes he's just barely hitting the strings. Mickley Finn was just a bit of an eye candy accessory .I think, you have to remember TRex were originally designed to make money off teenage kids rather than be a really serious type of band and they were great at that. Steve Took however was a different kettle of fish on the early stuff and apparently was quite skilled. His later solo stuff wasn't bad either. I know he hung out with Syd barrett and Kevin Ayers aswell and played on their stuff. Just a shame the lifestyle got him really. Bolans song writing was unique and wonderful to me but he's a sort of love him or hate him type of musician I think.

  6. I  find the bounce has gone with lighter strings. They tend to rattle more as well with low action. I have girls hands so was surprised that they seem to help with lighter touch. It's a nice bonus that my six string guitar strings feels like playing air after working out on heavier strings. I have a feeling for the 70 80s funk and fusion that I tend to play is easier performed on non light strings. Think I got stuck in a Wooten trap.

  7. After a major period of losing bass mojo and nearly given up I switched to heavier strings thinking I would try anything. Went to a regular guage and everything seems to be coming back. Anybody else had this? I always assumed lighter strings would improve my playing but using heavier seems almost easier like the bass is driving itself a bit.

  8. After a couple of weeks of waiting i received my Sire M2 today. I have off loaded nearly all my basses as just do not have room and now have to spend money on things like energy and food. I'm now down to  an Ibanez RG guitar and the Sire. I had a V7 but just hated the neck for some reason. After watching a couple of reviews i went for the Sire M2. I have to say this thing is incredible, the neck could have been made for me. The last luxury bass i had was a Streamer stage 1 which i loved but the sound and feel of this bass is easily up there and was 4 times less expensive. Its given me a new lease of bass life after a stale period of about 7 years!

  9. Get an Ibanez rg second hand you will fly around the neck. I challenge anyone to find a faster shallower stronger neck than the wizard neck. I know they arent as trendy looking as a fender but they are the best value you will find and so well built. It improved my playing ten fold.

  10. You can get by with less ram if you bounce down seperate tracks together to make one track and then reinsert this bounced down track. If however you had a high end vst synth running at the same time you are going to need quite a high end set up for most modern ones as they are Hungry.
