  1. I bought a Lakland from Guitar Guitar Birmingham online (risky I know) & it arrived really nicely set up but this could've been done by Lakland.

When it arrived I was convinced they'd sent me the wrong thing as the box (& bass) was stupidly light 😁

    @Horizontalste I love that 😉

Me too Andy, I'm still astounded at the quality of Yamaha's 'budget' basses.

I was considering refinishing it but I'm actually liking the honesty of the battle scars. I will completely re-do the neck at some point though. The fretboard could do with sanding down a bit & the frets are a bit flat for my liking but all in all its ninety quid well spent!

  3. Photos of the BB350 MoJo linked to on the previous page.

It's full of dings & dents & it was so dirty it could have classified as a bio hazard (especially the frets & fretboard) but I've begun putting it right.

Somehow the truss rod had come out of alignment with the nut being right up against the fretboard side of the hole. This pretty much rendered it useless so to remedy it I just took the nut off & added a washer to keep it central & the result is a nice straight neck & decent enough action.

One of the tuners is a bit clunky & the pots need cleaning but I'll get to that tomorrow.

Cheers to MoJo for the link!

This is like that "Are YOU A Boring Bass Player?" guy all over again.

Looks like the OP's been a member here for 12 years - surprising then, that it hasn't clicked that we're largely a bunch of middle-aged, highly experienced, frequently pro/semi-pro musicians, many of whom will have been knocking up bitsa basses for the last three or four decades!

Oh, and here's one I made earlier. :)

I love this picture, it reminds me of one of those scenes you might see in an American drama where the murder already happened & the perp is about to dismember the body to dispose of the evidence!

Ooh I like the look of that. I contacted WD Music but they don’t do one for the Special HH yet. I’d have to send them a template. 🙄

Not sure if it's of any use but I have a non musicman 4H in Matte Black you could butcher if you want it.

Suppose it depends if the bridge pickup is in the same position 🤔

Both of mine (black & white) are original musicman ones, not at all cheap but a perfect fit & they're not thin either which I like.

    Edited for crap spelling 🤦

Waiting for my recently acquired 55-01 Skyline to arrive. Historically I haven't got on with 5ers but I'm committed to persevering this time.....or I'll be looking for a trade for a 4 string.

Is there a consensus regarding the 01-v-02?

I have both, stuck some big singles in the 01 & it's ridiculous, like a jazz on acid. But it's not light.

My 02 is completely standard & my main gig squeeze, also the lightest bass I've ever played.

  8. They're great & can be a one cab .solution for lots of gigs.

I have two of them, use them either with my Shuttle 9.2 or a Little Mark ii.

They've always fitted the bill for pubs & clubs & anything bigger would be through the PA anyway.

Sound quality is great & they like to be pushed with the 9.2 but I usually get told to turn down.

I'll put it this way, at one time I had one Focus & a Berg 1/12, the Berg was replaced with the second Focus.

    I still have both!

You are correct. If the chord is still C, and the bass player is simply playing an E underneath it, then yes it would be C 1st Inversion, which you would see written as C/E (C over E). Cm6 is another chord entirely.

What Higgie said, it all depends on what cord is being implied/played at the point the E is being played as to what function it serves & how to identify it.

If it's not the root it'll generally create some feeling of dissonance/tension within the harmony.

As @MoJo stated earlier - the switches are notoriously weak on the 414. Mine was replaced with a switchcraft upon purchase.

he’s your man for more information

Always an option to drop another pot in & go VVT, that's what I did with my 425 & I'm happy with the results!
