There are plenty of secondhand stingrays around for under £2000. Even the Gallery has a few.

I thought at first glance the OP was looking at new, but then if you're considering a fake 'ray - I take your point, you're unlikely to be in the market for a new 'un

  2. Recorded today.. I don't think it's finished yet - hoping to get a 'real' sung vocal on there. Quite simply produced... Akai S900 handling drums and the EP/Chord sample, sequenced on my trusty Akai MPC 2000xl. The flute, sax and all other key parts played live from a Korg Triton. Bass is my EBMM Stingray with flats DI'd. All audio recorded into Logic Pro X, using only stock plugins.

Inspiration, the 4 in the foreground look like they are heading home after a heavy night in the club as the sun rises..

  3. I'd go an see a teacher for a couple of face to face lessons at the start, for no other reason than it's good to get the basics of your physical technique on the instrument. Once you have that down, you're much less likely to hurt yourself & can take the path of online/youtube/books/whatever floats your boat... There's bound to be someone in your neck of the woods that can set you on your journey

Is anyone else on the Nextdoor app? It's a bit like local Facebook groups, but for really nosy people. Most of the posts on it seem to be Does anyone know why the police helicopter is out tonight? as well as Does anyone know this guy (Ring doorbell footage attached)? He was trying my backdoor last night. or Please stop letting your dogs shite on my driveway.

Nextdoor (in my town) seems to be for closet racists and weirdos. One to avoid if you feel badly about FB groups -> the nextdoor mob will take you to another level!!

  5. For me the thing that makes me chuckle about FB groups/newbies seeking knowledge - especially the larger groups, is the people with relatively little knowledge of the subject in hand piling in and flooding the thread with bad advice (this is FB, not here!).

But life is too short to react or get annoyed by it, so just scroll on

  6. Yep, I've been that way a few years. I have two basses, an amp, a modest collection of synths and drum machines, couple of guitars...

It feels great as you said

But in the past, I have bought and sold loads... I wish I had the wisdom 20 years ago to buy a couple of good instruments, stick with them and save all that time and money on trading

I see that the MPC One Plus is out, although not feeling any particular pressure to upgrade!

Are any of you Akai MPC users managing to make use of your kit in live performance? If so, would love to see any clips if you have them.

Struggling to see what the 'upgrade' features are - apart from the name :)

People will always say what they don't like, but in reality, none of those will stop anyone from buying anything they were going to buy anyway, so where they should listen to peoples opinions, they have to bear in mind that these are just random peoples opinions when asked and unless there are real useabilty issues, they aren't that important.

Also they have to consider this is a bass guitar shop run by a very small company, not a eCommerce show room.

This is a standard modern site (a woocommerce one) - I am not sure I get the '2015 ecommerce site', like everything has to change every year?? It seems to do the job and everything works. I think they have done fine.

All sites have issues, but this seems to work a lot better than what they had, and makes it much clearer - obviously if you were used to the previous it might annoy as you want things to stay the same, but if you came from fresh to both sites, the old one would seem pretty poor.

Ok. look at the competition - or similar businesses that have a web-presence... You say BassDirect is a small shop, but there are others that make a real effort to ensure their website/online presence is good.

Take for example Jordan Guitars https://jordanguitars.co.uk/ site is nice, clean and functional, a lot of thought has gone into the design etc.. I'm sure there are others

    nope. its woocommerce in wordpress....

...which makes me question... why did that take so long?

Yeah, but the whole thing looks like its been put together by someone who doesn't do it for a living...

  10. Did he make the website himself? It's marginally better than the old one but still looks like it's from circa 2015 rather than something from 2023.

Somethings you can/should DIY - an ecommerce website? nah you should leave that to a pro
