  1. Played with the blues band in a tiny pub in Lanark.   Didn't take many people to fill it so an enthusiastic audience of thirty created a great atmosphere.

One downside was the access to the toilets door being immediately behind us.  Two songs before the end of the first set I was aware of a most unpleasant honk emanating from said direction. Thankfully the air had cleared by the start of set 2.

Man alive, it was grim for a while.

  2. Friday and Saturday was QuoVention, a gathering of Status Quo aficionados in Bilston's Robin 2 venue.  Seven tribute bands over two evenings including guest appearances from Quo drummers Jeff Rich and Leon Cave and Rick Parfitt's replacement, Ritchie Malone.

All the bands were excellent and gave the punters what they had come for.

The backline and drum kit provided for us did the job perfectly and the sound engineer put in a sterling shift over the piece.   The event took 18 months to organise and was a great success.

Bands and fans came from England, Sweden, Belgium. Germany and Scotland.

Back to publand for our next gig to bring us back down to earth. Ha ha.

“Broadcast live on Friday 28th November 1985, plus the songs they carried on playing when the show went off-air after transmission”.

    On YouTube. Go watch it.

Michael Burnett playing a Stingray that sounds amazing. What a player. What a singer. What a band! Eyes right!

I remember that performance well. Brilliant. I'll watch the youchoob tomorrow.  Thanks.

Where was that ? I remember playing a wee support slot with Status Quoiing at a club in West End Glasgow possibly out towards Paisley area that had a Db monitor. Mic was at far end of the hall. I just put a cover over the mic and no-one was any the wiser.

    Dave

Last night was a Blues band gig Dave at the other end of the city from where you played.  Small amps, much quieter than the Quo trib.   I didn't think to look for the mic but will make that my mission next time we're there.

  5. Battling against a sound limiter is never fun.  Resting level before we played a note was 82dB.  We were told not to exceed 100dB so set phasers to soft blast and away we went.  On any occasion where we tipped 100dB the barman ran out and told us we were too loud and had to turn down.

We adapted the vocals to suit and at one point I was asked, jokingly, if my bass was on.

Well, we made it to the end, got paid and went home.

Drums, bass, 2 x guitars, 2 x vocals and moothie.

  6. February

    The Rezillos in Glasgow.

    All in March.

Six Quo tribute bands at The Robin in Bilston.

Young Scottish singer songwriter Kerr Mercer in Glasgow.

The Countess of Fife in Coatbridge.

I was offered a freebie to see Robben Ford but he's not my cup of tea.  Brilliant as he is.

  7. Tiny pub lounge with the Blues band.  Not that one.

Busiest it got was 13 punters.  At the interval that had reduced to one old guy at the bar.  Two bar staff and one of them put his coat on and left.

At the end of the night the remaining lonely bar maid (can I still say that?)  said it's the same scenario most weeks.

Ever the professionals we played our full set, got paid and went home.

  8. Teardrops.  Take the name of one of your most widely known songs, keep it simple for use on posters and advertising.   Venue owners and promoters or agents like names that are easy to remember.  You can also add a simple strap line pointing to your Soul/Funk style.

It's difficult to say for certain.

One thing that might be worth checking, is the frequency range it's operating in. From what I could see on the website, it doesn't look like it operates in the UK available frequencies (apologies if you're not in the UK) so you may have problems.

    Thanks.  I'm in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The chap in the band who bought the system used it live last week and it worked perfectly.   Frequency range is 555-575MHz

The receiver pack I can find online is 500-570MHz

  10. Our band is venturing into IEM land for the first time.  We have a Phenyx Pro transmitter that came with one receiver bodypack. It accommodates a max of four.  I'm having difficulty finding a Phenyx receiver pack to buy for myself.  Will another brand receiver work if I make sure the frequency range is in limits?

Thanks in advance to the vastly experienced BC community.

I will not play Status Quo. There's a line and that crosses it.

Oh don't be that snob. Rattle into Big Fat Mama, Softer Ride and Forty Five Hundred Times and find a new world of wonder 😃
