1. Sorry forgot to say as well, changed cables used a different interface, same issue. Really bizarre.
2. Hi all. I've been primarily playing my guitar through a laptop using vsts for over a year now with great success. Very recently though I'm finding that despite no change in setup I'm getting hum when laptop plugged in and very loud data sounds when it is unplugged. Just like overnight there is a lot more noise and inference. I've tried with another ac adapter even tried with same setup on partners laptop but same. Any ideas on what can be causing the increase on noise? Playing and recording guitar is now virtually impossible because of this random increase.
3. Update - turns out I needn't have worried too much. There isn't any clipping on guitars through the instrument setting with gain right down and is a real healthy signal. One of my basses clips direct through it, but not a big deal as can use a buffer to help this.
4.
Does not the 2i2 also have a pad button as well as the gain knob? I now have the 2i4 2nd gen and that certainly does. I had a first gen 2i4 and that did too, I think.
Picked it up this first generation doesn't have pad button, hence why I'm thinking of having inline pad connected to workaround it.
5.
Is it the first generation or second generation box that you're buying? I believe that they've fixed this 'issue' with the second generation. Indeed I have the second gen and get no clipping using the instrument setting going direct.
Its the first generation unfortunately. It may be that I have no issues but I'll guess I'll have to see.
6. Is that with the setting to Line or Instrument? I believe that there's loads of headroom on Line, but it can sacrifice clarity due to impedance mismatch.
7. I am picking up a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 interface on saturday won for cheap off eBay with he intention was that it was to be a "one-stop" shop for recording Vocals, miking up acoustics and direct recording of electric guitars as im currently using various methods to record which work fine but a bit clunky. As always, hindsight is wonderful and I've noticed that a few reviews do state that it is not that suitable direct electric guitars because the lack of headroom on Instrument Level even when gain is on 0db. It is a known issue but a few people have resorted to using the Line setting which i know from experience sucks a considerable amount of high end from the tone despite being more useable gain levels. I haven't actually got the device yet so I don't know how bad the clipping will (if any) with my guitars, but it does seem to be a problem experienced by a lot of people. I did read somewhere that someone recommended using an inline pad should be fine. Has anyone any experience of using these type of devices for a similar scenario so the gain is reduced prior to the input stage? https://www.studiospares.com/Microphones/Mic-Accessories/Studiospares-30dB-In-Line-XLR-Attenuator_568590.htm#rtabs2 I am thinking that using one of these on the guitar should then provide plenty of headroom back on the unit to record, but I'm wondering if this sort of device has any noticeable tone suck like what going to Line would do? Reason why I mention the tone suck is that my current setup for electric guitar is Guitar -> Disenaged Analog Pedal with Buffered Bypass > Rocksmith Cable Using this setup sounds really good compared to just going straight into laptop with the Rocksmith cable, which sounds noticeably duller when doing it this way. I imagine that if I just used the Line section of the 2i2 then this will be the same. I'm hoping to get as good a sound using the Inline Pad that I do with this setup but without having to use this pedal between. Any thoughts welcome!
8. Hi, I have a Squier Classic Vibe 50's BSB telecaster with the maple neck, but I would like to swap the neck on it for the Classic Vibe custom neck with rosewood fingerboard. Main reason for wanting to swap is that I have come to the conclusion that I prefer the feel of rosewood, even though the maple on BSB looks amazing. No chips or dings on it. Based in Wigan, but can meet halfway to do swap in anyone interested in swap. Cheers Greg PICS: (it is currently still attached to guitar!) 9. Only bought this last week off ebay for £15 to go in neck position of my tele so it was like a strat sound, but realised I want something with a bit hotter to match bridge as this pickup as name suggests is vintage so is nice and warm. Lovely sound just not for me. £10 posted - PayPal gift or bank transfer please.
10.
I was looking at these in my local PMT on Friday. In a shop full of the usual Gibson & Fender tedium they really stood out.
Did you have a play at all? I'm really tempted to go for the 420 model as that seems a good balance between price / function. I'd happily shift on my Squier Classic Vibe to fund a purchase!
11. http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/yamaha-builds-on-its-heritage-with-eight-strong-revstar-guitar-line-up-632246 These new Yamaha electric guitars look lovely and something a little different to the generic Fender / Gibson camp and seems to be one at all price points. This has caused me the first real bout of Gas in ages - that 502T series is beautiful!
12. Bumping again. Anyone in North West fancy this swap? Westy for a Westy?
13.
Really no way to repair the broken one..? With a photo, maybe someone could offer an alternative solution..? Or maybe Yamaha could supply one as a spare part..? Just sayin'.
Photo here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BykALQtqty0aS1d5N2NJYVAwLUE/view?usp=docslist_api The thing is I've lost the little bit that has come detached or I would have been able to do something. If anyone can suggest a repair that would work in meantime that would be great. The thing is the bit where it's snapped does have a "ledge" where the string sits bit obviously as it gets tension on it just comes off so I need something to stop it flying off. Would superglue / baking soda help here?
14. Thanks for responses. I'm guessing a blank is going to be best bet. I don't suppose getting a 45mm nut is likely to work if I sanded it down either side?
15. Hi as above I would like to get a precut 5 string nut that's 42mm but I'm struggling. Does anyone know where I can try? I know I can get blanks but that isn't something I'm interested in! Not bothered about it being bone a cheapo one will do as it's just to replace a broken one on my old Yamaha 5er. Thanks!
16. I had one for a whole and as stock it is OK. The pickups are quite hot and I found winding them right down achieved the best tones. I replaced preamp with a retrovibe stinger (2 band stingray pre-amp clone) which basically made it sound like a stingray when wired in parallel! Sold it on as fell out with 5 strings but it was a decent bass.
17.
what pickup did you get?
It was a pickup for a 4 string but was a rail j style pickup, apparently by a company called x-sound but I can't find any info on them. 6.5 kohms is the resistance rating. Nice tone soloed quite fat sounding, definitely the best J bridge tone I've ever had!
18. 6.5kOhms ...
19. Following a goosed J bridge pickup in my P/J fiver I picked up a cheap single coil pickup from ebay to replace it and I have to say it is a great pickup for price and sounds really fat for a bridge single coil. It is a single rail as opposed to dual blades and is supposedely 6 Ohms. Thinking of decking out my cheap Westfield Jazz with a couple of these as well. Anyone else have any experiences of similiar rail pickups for Jazz bass?
20. Quick update on this for anyone interested got a cheap new replacement 4 string rail bridge pickup from eBay and this fits the bass fine and it's now back to full P/J capacity. The pickup was only 16 quid from eBay but it actually sounds great! The old one never sounded that good soloed was always used in conjunction with P but this one sounds fat soloed, very similar the J pickup in my old BB414. P/J tone with new pickup just fantastic now so ironically I'm glad the pickup was goosed so I could replace it!

22. Dimensions are: Length : 93mm Width : 16mm Cheers
23.
What are the dimensions of the failed pickup? I might have something that would serve.
Ooh that's brilliant if you did thank you. Annoyingly I can't find a ruler but will have a search and post back. I know this particular model of Yamaha (1989 RBX5) was known for having 4 string dimensions but with an extra string.
24.
Hard to tell, in itself it isn't too much of a problem except that the winds are normally tight, so if it is loose like that it may be broken. If it is, there isn't much you can do without quite a bit of careful work
Update - coil wire has definitely snapped. Wouldn't know where to begin getting it fixed. Ah well.
